Hi N900 users/ gurus,

Your in depth discussion is indeed very insightful  wink.gif

I have a lay person's questions to post to ya'll

Should i wait for this phone to be officially launched in Msia, or should i get an AP version now?

What would be the main difference if i were to get it now? Software/firmware differences as AP is imported from other countries, and the official device would be customized for our country's use?

Sorry if my question is noobish, hope ya'll bear with me  notworthy.gif  thx
*
Their differences are warranty and price smile.gif

the rest should be the same.

I'm not sure when it will be launched in Malaysia. Still no news in Nokia website and Nokia Centres.
Usually, if it's coming soon, they will have info, and later, they will have pre-orders.

Probably Nokia is waiting for the next major updates first as currently, the phones still lacks of some features commonly found in normal phones, and also it's mainly landscape mode. The next major update possibly will have Portrait mode feature.
Plus, the current firmware does not have Malaysia as a selectable region.

The firmware will be same. Actually AP set is simply a model for other country. To put it simple, you can buy a Sony PSP UK or Japan version, that is considered AP set.
All are original, except Malaysian set is official set for Malaysian market, with possibly some basic customization (e.g. default language, region, etc.)

If there's any wrong information, please do correct me as well.

having so many OS is a big headache for software developer as well as end user.

I not sure Malaysia is included in PR1.1 firmware but the latest minor update PR1.1.1 has added 40 countries. and Malaysia is part of the region in N900 settings. smile.gif

I saw in the regional settings now that have English(Singapore) and Malay(Malaysia). What happens when you change the regional settings to Malay(Malaysia)? Will all the language change to Bahasa Melayu?

Java is NOT JavaScript.

No problems with websites using JavaScript; In fact, if you login facebook, you get the exact experience as your PC browser.
It's just not so smooth since facebook is quite content rich.

It really depends on how you customize your desktop, you can have up to 4 desktop and the widgets you choose can affect your battery life (even if you don't turn on wifi/3G).

I prefer to customize a nice looking desktop with nice widgets, so the battery life is about 1 day with little wifi usage.
I suppose if you turn everything off, including notification lights, lowest brightness, it might last you 3 days? Or more? I didn't bother to try.

3G consume the worst battery life; When it's on 3G and with my current desktop, it can last probably maybe 5-6 hours? Not sure, I try not to let the battery go low.

Try not to use those widgets that updates frequently or have animation/etc, like facebook widgets.

As for Movie, Music, Games; I personally find the battery consumption pretty good or acceptable.
On CNY day, I also use the video recording, the battery consumption seems pretty good as well, at least better than I expected.

I seldom take pictures/videos so I can't really comment on that, but for my personal experience with the battery life which I expected to be worst, so it's seems pretty good for me.

Let's see what other owner comment on this.

an average use of the phone with 3g should be a day. expect less if you use gps or heavy 3g usage.

since it's a phone with lots of computing power. it's hard for you to measure objectively, as everyone's usage varies much as compared to other ordinary phones smile.gif

it should last you out for whole day and perhaps when you reach home you need to charge it.

for me, i always carry a spare battery around. I learned this habit when I bought my i780 as it comes with a spare battery and desktop charger smile.gif
