y wanna mod chip one? hmm.gif
laugh.gif but still look alike its predecessor... just slimmer n smaller..

Coz he wanna play ahem ahem games on it..... doubt the ahem ahems can do much to the games, moreover with a newer PS3 (and the new chips, new lens speed, etc), it will take them more time..... or else they would have them out by now.

Or.... mayb he wanna play the ahem ahem BD25 discs out there?? Wonders if those PQ and AQ are as good, nvr dared to buy them tho they are much cheaper???

Not to forget PS3 can be a very good media player as well.
Can stream mkv files by using PS3 Media Server on PC.

Wow, Sony didn't even mention this in the official announcement. What is their strategy here? hmm.gif

PS3 has been long held as the best BD player (at it's price point of course, complete with the obvious extra feature: a game console), now they upping the ante. Fastest loading, and now can bitstream lossless audio codecs.

But because I have both standalone BD player and the SACD-capable PS3, I won't be considering this new PS3.

However, for those who has neither a BD player or a PS3, this new slim PS3 can be your ultimate solution.

To add more, gaming site Destructoid has confirmed that the new PS3 is much quieter. In fact, that was the thing about the new PS3 that impressed their reviewers the most:

"This thing is quiet. Scary quiet. 'WTF, is it even on?' quiet. Nick thinks the optical drive makes just a bit more noise than the original when inserting or ejecting a disc, but it didn't seem any louder to me. Either way, once your game or movie is in there, the thing is virtually silent."

its quieter because it runs cooler with the newer processor.

i doubt mod chip will be available anytime soon....is it even available for the current ps3? one can forget abt fw update and playing online games if modded.

it depends, really depends, like i always say technology, ( a board can just house a piece of IC ), but when blind fold test, it might win straight showdown on bigger boards ) biggrin.gif

must not be prejudice "don't judge a book by its cover"

It still worth the consideration, even i'm not a game addict, but given the features, wifi, streaming, mkv.... who knows whats written in the next chapter of our lifes. we are in a dream world...a non believer can always be a believer.... its reality... my fren smile.gif

Finally, they fixed the noisy fan problem and with bitstream capability I guess its a pretty good BD player. Honestly, PQ was not much different compared to standalone BD player for HD content. Standalone BD players have more tweaking ability for PQ (some not all). DVD upconversion is not important at all if u do not need it. One of the problems is the inability to deinterlace 1080i content and that only covers a small number of titles.

This gives less reason for people not to jump onto the HD bandwagon in the West. Of course, for HD to be mainstream in Asia, you all know what needs to happen.

Do you all realize that PS3 slim will be coming out in firmware 3.0. That meant, possibly the conventional PS3 can bitstream these HD audio codec after upgrade the firmware to 3.0, will it??
If I'm not wrong, last time the firmware earlier of PS3 cant decode the DTS HD MA & DOLBY TRUEHD.
Just wait & see la............

I see... Most PS3 users even I also glad to see the "DTS HD MA" or "DOLBY TRUEHD" light up on the AVR...
To me, as for the sound quality, it shouldn't have too much different between LPCM and Bitstream .........

IIRC, the current PS3 can't bitstream (can only decode internally) cos of the limitation of the HDMI controller chip..

so even with 3.0 firmware (which is software enhancement) .. still can't bitstream DTS-MA due to hardware limitation..

but I dun mind hoping it can.. smile.gif
