Just ordered an Inspiron 11 3000 series with 4yr Pro Support Warranty. Took advantage of their EPP, less painful.
Will upgrade its HDD to SSD and 8GB RAM.
Need to take advantage before GST implementation.
Hopefully will give years of good and reliable user experience.

Mind sharing how will u upgrade? And how is Dell's policy regarding upgrade done by ourselves with regards to their warranty?

Will pop into AllIT and buy the RAM and SSD. Dell is quite liberal in their warranty policy as they do not stamp their warranty sticker all round the laptop.
Using one from my company for work.
So it is no issue to upgrade it ourselves. They may have changed but all AFAIK, Dell is quite "open".
Will update again once I get it on hand.

KNS Dell delivery is not up to expectations. Sent email saying deliver on or before 2/4 but till now no calls or whatsoever from the delivery partner. Tomorrow will call and complain them.

Finally received the unit from Dell!
The unit is really solid and well built. Not bad for this budget and the flexibility of the various mode and touch screen is a game changer.
Now not sure whether want to upgrade the HDD to SSD or not as the performance is quite snappy.

Why not try to buy from Dell direct?
At Digital Mall there is a Exclusive Dell Distributor shop, you can get it there as well.

Finally upgraded the HDD to an Intel 530 SSD!
The performance difference is night and day!! Really staggering!
Single most worth while upgrade.
Between SSD and 8GB upgrade, the price is almost the same but the gains are not.

Still kept the RAM at 4GB but hands itchy to bump it up to 8GB.

Just got myself a new inspiron 14 5000 last week. Intel i5 5200u, 8 gb ram, 1 Tb had hybrid, 4gb r7 m270 graphics with touch screen.

At first wanted the i7 version since the i5 non touch has only 500 gb had and 4 gb ram, but I was informed by the sale person at the dell shop at lowyat they have the i5 version with touchscreen as well but the rest of the specs the same as the i7 version.

The only regret so far is that with touch screen, the laptop is much heavier compared to the non touch.

price wise, cannot compare with February price with the weak exchange and gst. Too bloody much.

What's the total dmg for that 530 SSD mod including going to 8GB RAM bro? Interested in the i3 model but I'm on the fence about jacking up to SSD but RAM is a go definitely. Reason being I'm waiting out for Win 10's perf stats to RTM lvl and if it's no more than 30% tops over 8.1 then scratch that am clean install any Debian Testing/Sid (Unstable) derivatives or Manjaro Linux alongside.

Spent about 300 for the SSD as i on hold the RAM upgrade. Now after SSD upgrade, do not feel the need for the RAM upgrade as the speed of the SSD is staggering. From cold boot to password login screen in less than 10s. Doubt a RAM upgrade to 8GB can beat that.

I had vostro 14 before. Very light but had to return it to the company as I switch department. Company policy if switch department must return pc and get new one. So for new lappy just want to try ATI graphics and touch screen, and when I realized touch screen is heavy its too late already whistling.gif

kns.. dell have a very funny way of arranging their specs... now they have 6 diff specs for inspiron 15 7000. but non of it is what i want.

Funny how they bundle the i7, 8gb ram, m270 gfx with either a 1366x768 or 4k monitor... no 1080p... argh.

I would like to purchase a new battery, for Dell Inspiron 14R (N4010).

It is a 6-Cell (48 WHr) Lithium Ion Battery.
Part Number: W7H3N
Description: PRIMARY, 48WHR, 6C, LITHIUM, SIMPLO~BTRY, PRIMARY, 48WHR, 6C, LITHIUM, SIMPLO

A search on Dell website reveals the following battery:

Battery

Price: RM 248.99

Is the price reasonable? Should I buy the battery from Dell, should I buy it from any reputable computer store in Lowyat Plaza?

Thanks for the advice. notworthy.gif

i'm in the midst of choosing between
1) dell inspiron 11 3000series 2-in-1
i3-4030U(4th gen)
win8.1
4gb ram
500gb hdd
rm2229

or

2) dell inspiron 13 7000 series 2-in-1
i5-5200U (5th gen)
win8.1
8gb ram
500gb hdd hybrid drive
rm3179

Which you think is good buy?
4th gen adn 5th gen processor any big difference?
big performance difference between normal sata hdd and hybrid drive?
My main criteria is portability. Is it worth to top up the difference to get the i5?
