i am using CM Notepal U2. this model you can adjust the location of the fan, so you can put the fan at the hottest spot, which is below the touchpad.
*
Wow, I don't know U2 can do that. Mind to share some pictures with us?

Help needed... When i want to play dota... on ad-hoc network, i tried to join the network set by my friend. It's connected but there's an error sign on the icon. Tried to search for the room but i can't see any room inside LAN. After that, i tried to reinstall the newest driver for wireless card and restarted my lappy. Still can't solve it... What can i do to solve the problem??
*
Have you tried looking at your wireless setup? Maybe you accidentally set a personal IP or something like that.

Quite impossible. Coz i nvr adjust the settings since last time i use it for dota... And. I setup a new ad hoc network still no use... Haiz........ No solution for this~
*
Well, I played a lot of LAN game through ad hoc network and I never have that problem for the past 3 years. The few reasons I can't join a ad hoc network is either the connection created is not supported or there is something wrong with it IP.

Hi all,
I'm a new Studio 15 user
just received it 2 days ago....

firstly I would like to ask...how 2 use creative sound blaster software to improve sound quality? does it produce sound like a subwoofer?

secondly, at the bottom of my studio 15 laptop, there is no genuine windows vista sticker...do ur laptops same with mine?

can someone help me pls...thanks^^
*
Creative sound blaster won't give any significant boost to the laptop's speaker. I currently using Windows driver for the audio, it perform much better than IDTs'.

QUOTE(noien @ Oct 24 2009, 11:14 AM)
but nc2000 is for 17inch laptop isnt it?
*
Nope. NC1000 is actually ngam ngam fit the 15'4 laptop. Since latest S15 is 15'6, NC2000 prove to be a better choice.

hey dude!!u got a CM notepal U2!!
so how the cooler? wat is the GPU temp when playing hardcore game??
im looking for a cooler for s15...and it seem like this notepal U2 is the best for s15!!
movable fan and 2000rpm!!
*
Serious sh*t? U2 got 2000rpm? I wonder where is the location of the fan. If its located at lower part which is directly projecting to the touchpad area, I might consider getting it as my ram and HDD is boiling when I running on video rendering software.

drool.gif Just got muh new Dell Studio 15.
Anythin I should pimp up in terms of software/settings?
Oh, plus a quick question; when in use should I remove the battery? (When I'm using the adapter)
*
Well, my suggestion to new laptop owner is that they format the laptop and create another partition out of it. This will wash away the bloatwares and save up the booting time and give better windows performance. But, if you don't know how to format a laptop, I would suggest you install CCleaner and do some software cleaning. You might wanna update the GPU driver for better graphic performance.

Never plug in your adapter when you on battery, it will shorten the lifespan of your battery.

If you insist of running i7 on laptop, then that is the cheapest option for you. However, I would prefer XPS16 with HD4670 although it just run on a P8600.

You can forget about the recovery partition actually, you don't really need a recovery partition if you know how to format you laptop. Win 7 RC? laugh.gif I though you are eligible for Win 7 upgrade, no? If you wanted to install Win 7, get at least a RTM version, RC is just lame..

Nope. Once you install the OS that Dell provided, most of the drivers were installed. You just need to download latest ATI drivers from ATI site.

Nice move. Nobody though about that before laugh.gif

If you reformat, the bloatwares and the unnecessary software can be cleaned out. You can have better windows performance with that. But if I were you, I won't reformat now, I will just partition my HDD. I'll format once I got my hand on the Win 7, better.

*
Technically you can but practically is not proven it will works. You don't really need recovery partition if you know how to format you laptop. Recovery image or partition is for quick format but it will include the bloatwares in it. I think just install Win 7, you will never wanted to revert back to Vista.

i bought my set from dell retailer in lyp. all other cds are included except the win7 cd... really need to check tis issue later.. sad.gif

i intended to buy dell studio 15 with promo price @2699 c/w 3gb ram + win7 + T6600 but the agent said i need to top up an additional of RM100 to get the spec tat i wanted. the price of 2699 is only for online purchase only. isit true?
*
Hell NO! The retailer price should be the same or cheaper than the online price. I think the seller trying to coax you into adding additional rm100 for the laptop. You can straight purchase online and no need to pay additional Rm100. The spec you mentioned is the common spec in Dell website, the price is Rm2699 and if the retailer trying to sell it for Rm2799, I think buying online is the better option.

Modern Warfare is for high end pc or laptop, 1537 barely can support the play. It would kill the fun playing it with its sluggish graphic and play. 1537 still can support COD-5 but not this one.

Just realised the Warranty Extension for Studio 15 cost about RM700. Got an email from Dell asking me to extend my warranty and at that link, its listed as RM480. Called the CS and they said that price is only for Inspiron, and Studio will cost RM700. Crazy...
*
One thing about Dell warranty that it is expensive. But if your laptop starting to show the sign of dying then I think the warranty should worth the upgrade. I don't mind extending my warranty if I running on a XPS m1530 laugh.gif Studio somehow more reliable than other line, it is much better compared to Inspiron and some say Studio XPS whistling.gif whistling.gif

Well, if its the quoted 400+, i dont mind upgrading. Luckily i called to confirmed and they said its about 700+ which someone doesn't really worth the price, unless its some major breakdown like LCD or motherboard. Battery are not covered anyway even if we extend.
I changed mine last time as well but they gave me replacement stickers tongue.gif Or perharps, they peel of the original one and put them onto the new palm rest tongue.gif
Tired of calling Dell, after so many times, they still fail to fix my "too sensitive until it operates on its own" touch sensitive buttons. Guess even they cant do anything on it.
*
Well, so far I didn't hear any complain that somebody S15 broke down due to mobo or gpu failure so the hardware should be fine for the next few years given it been taken care in good condition. Rm700 really will poke a huge hole in you pocket if you upgrade it sweat.gif

How did they fix your multimedia touch button? Do they replace the touch button or they just replace the casing? I have no problem with the multimedia touch button, how long the problem occurred?

hey dudes, my s15 gives me problem all this while...
seriously i donno why it always become not responsive occationally, sometimes even hang..

im using win7 ultimate 64bit, my proc is p8600, with 4gb ram..with this spec it cant be always not responsive in daily task..but running game its fine. im pretty sure its not becos of virus or bloatware or watsoever..and im just running some IE, songs and msn.

anyone more sensitive and experience in computer meet this problem also?

Added on November 17, 2009, 5:26 pmand its kind of funny when i watching 1080p video, both the core runs at 60% ~70%.. i wonder why this happen, seem like the hd4570 and the p8600 is sux, i already know 4570 is sux, but i tot p8600 is a strong processor, and my experience proves tat i was wrong.
*
Are you sure other than the IE, songs and msn there is no background software running? Which monitor software that you use to monitor the cpu usage?? I'm running on P8400 and HD3450 and I never face any issue with the lagging or hang. I'm running FF with 8 tabs at least and gtalk+msn. On top of that, I'm will run photoshop or after effect and yet, the performance is still great. My laptop get a lil sluggish when I converting vids to iPod format with HQ setting but other than that, I have no problem whatsoever. I'm not talking as a Dell fan, I'm sharing in term of laptop performance.

P8600 is one of the best bargain cpu that available in mainstream laptop market and it's performance proven by some users. And I beg to differ on HD4570, that is another best bargain gpu on mainstream market. I don't know how you configure your laptop but maybe you should check certain aspect to improve performance. For example, which power option that you running on and did you do frequent housekeeping on your HDD?

QUOTE(magiclover @ Nov 18 2009, 12:19 AM)

But when i called dell up for techical assistance, they will perform nicely, yes everytime when i'm on the line, so no problem can be detected
But after i hang and after sometime, my touchpad go crazy again, and even will hang when the laptop gets a little bit more heat....zzz quite annoying

laugh.gif Just called and tell them your touchpad got problem. Regardless what happen during the conversation with the customer service, just tell them got problem and ask them to fix it.

Another quick solution, external mouse biggrin.gif

i agree with rayz1031, r u sure no other application is running?
i alwaz multi-tasking b4 & no lagging problem
besides, it is normal tat cpu usage so high when watching 1080p video, depends on the player tat u use, eg. when i use kmplayer, the cpu usage is core 0 70% while core 1 just 12%, if use mpc then both cores exceed 50%
hd4570 & p8600 sux if u compare with desktop hardware, they r quite good laptop hardware tat u can get with 3k budget
do u use it in battery mode? in battery mode, the performance will drop down for power saving even in high performance power option
*
What OS you running on? Vista or Win 7? I agreed that with 3k you can get a great desktop but with laptop, P8600 and HD4570 is quite good already.

QUOTE(akachester @ Nov 18 2009, 08:46 AM)
They would? LOL...If they will, i can give it a try tongue.gif Well, yes, apparently my first problem was the top panel (the black part where the speaker resides) are abit loose. So, i called up, and instead of changing the whole laptop, they decided to change the panel only. Since then, the "too sensitive" touch button appears. Called up again, and they change the panel again. But problem still occurs. Lazy to call again, and decide to stick with it (for a couple of months).

And when i found out its annoying again, i call again, and they replace the damn panel again, and same problem still there. I wonder they never realise changing the top panel wont work.
Its a 1 year, standard warranty you get when you purchase the S15. If 2 years, it cost RM1k which is extremely unworthy, at least to me.
The sim card was never meant to be used here. At least thats what i found out. Searching the net did says that it is somehow designed for some place overseas that has the ability to use the slot instead of some mobile broadband thing etc. I tried it before as well and you can never detect it. Probably you need some built in HSDPA modem or something.
*
Got this fella that have problem with his Studio XPS, he complain until Dell give him full refund laugh.gif

I quite lucky with Dell laptop, never face a constant problem. The only time I had problem is my GS8400 on Inspiron 14 decide to gone kaput. That time they come to fix it for 3 times. Watch them rip my mobo apart and install it again sweat.gif sweat.gif

I got another friend which is M1530 spoiled after warranty finish but Dell still fixing it FOC. That is why I like Dell, very good customer service and after sales services.

QUOTE(WhiteFlag @ Nov 18 2009, 11:46 AM)
im using performance power option and min and max cpu state set to 100%, and i just format and install win7 in roughly a month.
the thing is it works fine, just occatioanlly become sluggish for no reason, for example i need to wait few seconds to show the msg i type in msn...
i figure out one reason make my laptop sluggish which is flash player, when the flash player is running in browser, the cpu will ridiculously shoot up to 100% for both core, sometimes it still sluggish even flash player is not running, i wonder why that will happen.

well, mayb im paranoid?
*
Win 7? The only problem I can spot is either the driver or the flash player is outta date. Update your driver and flash player and open Task Manager to see what is the software running on the background. Need to wait few second to type in msn? This problem not even occur when I'm using Inspiron 14. I can confirm is not the hardware issue, it up to your laptop configuration.

Haha..I for one, have loads of problem with Dell laptop before. Had one Latitude from my previous company, the LCD kong the very first week received. Then, after changed, keep getting BSOD due to faulty ram. My first Dell, the S15, had so many problems. Faulty wireless switch, weak top panel (Squeeky sound when press), problematic touch sensitive buttons, faulty power led etc.

Had to complain so many times, until i also lazy to complain about the touch sensitive button already tongue.gif But for some reason, i still favor Dell tongue.gif Just ordered the 14z to replace my S15 anyway yesterday tongue.gif
*
shocking.gif shocking.gif You change laptop like changing shirts laugh.gif But why take 14z? The GPU capability is almost the same like your current S15. Why not getting Studio XPS, better GPU and design?

I have the faulty LED prob too but it just for the num lock led so I don't really care about it, other than that my S15 is healthy like a horse.

QUOTE(magiclover @ Nov 18 2009, 04:59 PM)
thanks

so can i just tell them that the touchpad is problematic and ask them to send a technician for physical inspection regardless the hardware diagnostic result??

external mouse will be the same, left click will change to right click, and i've figured out to change it back to normal i have to press left n right click button together, and after a short while the problem resumes... lol
*
shocking.gif shocking.gif I think your mouse really got problem already. I think you better call Dell and ask them to send technician for on site diagnostic rather than doing it through the phone. Sometimes I just don't see the point of doing remote diagnostic, totally inaccurate. Last time I complain on my dvd rom on my Inspiron, they do remote diagnostic on it but I just answer "no..cannot..still won't work" tongue.gif The technician actually came with new dvd rom and replace it. Same goes to my dead mobo, blank screen already, what also cannot see, how to diagnose? Just ask them come and do it on site. The cost is not our concern, its Dell laugh.gif
