PS3 Malaysia vs Singapore, does it matter?

Hi Guys,
Im planning to buy PS3. However, i was just wondering if there're much difference between the ones from Singapore and the ones from Malaysia. Yes i'm aware that those from Malaysia are warrantised by Sony Malaysia. But the seller told me it makes no difference as even the ones from Malaysia will be sent back to the same supplier at the end of the day. Apparently there's only 1 supplier for the SEA/Asia region?
Can any of you help me verify these issues?
If I buy PS3 from Sony Malaysia, does it mean i can get my console back faster due to less logistics issue/restrictions compared to if I were to buy from Singapore?
What're the pros and cons of PS3 from Malaysia and Singapore?

actually from wat i know, main difference is u can personally send it to the Sony service center urself. its at midvalley so if u re from klang valley then its great bcos obviously if u send n collect it personally, it ll b faster than sendin it thru suppliers who will obviously send n collect in batches. but if u re not from klg valley then i doubt it ll make much diff... tat s my 2 cents

Even got an extra controller and a game as well. That was more than a year ago though.

I agreed with you wallance13
If you planned to buy sg set, why not just add another 300 bucks and buy the Malaysian set just for the warranty secure.
If the sg set got ylod or lense prob, you'll need to pay extra for the transportation fees.If you get somebody to fixed it, you still need to add another rm200-300 to repair it.

Generally, if the item packaging is already opened up, the custom considered it as a belonging or a presents which thats why the item might get pass the custom. If the item is still inside the package and sealed, they considered it as a purchased item and need taxes.Thats why most of my friend buy the PS3 at singapore had their package opened and unseal before they brought it here.Even most of the shop owner who sell sg set ps3 had their ps3 unseal or without serial number. Some of them who dun want to open the package may had to put it in the bag and covered it with cloth to avoid being detected by the custom but it depends on luck.
Uh and I heard from the hobby section that any of the purchased item which the price exceed rm500 may get taxed and I assume that probably it also applied to PS3.

i thought you cant send non-malaysian sets to sony malaysia? thats the downside of SG set. if you need to make a warranty claim, you'll need to ship it to sony SG (shipping charges must be paid by you IINM) and on top of that it will take ages before you get it back. the advantage is you pay roughly rm300 less on the initial purchase. but taking into account the charges you may incur in the fututre, rm300 is pretty reasonable for that added peace of mind.

3 months is too long indeed. Maybe a new game will release by the time i got back my console :S
I'd rather pay the extra RM300 with the ease of mind knowing that I can collect n send as i please in KL.

Trust me, my friends all own SG set and all confirm this. I was there when they tried to claim.
It's a stupid policy, especially since MY PS3s are just SG PS3s with SIRIM sticker and different box art. IINM, MY units are actually manufactured in SG (I'm not sure about this, though)

That is also true, since JB people can just save on the RM200 and drive over to Singapore to claim warranty. SG warranty also very good; my friend go there with YLOD (his CECHK06 store in very dusty spot in carpet room with bad ventilation), they give him new unit at the Sony Center on the spot. They also lent him an external HDD and told him to backup his data, deactivate PSN, etc. etc. They even let him use the 70" Bravia X there to do it also. When he finish, he played KZ2 for a while and they didn't halau him. Damn shiok

There is only one source for all CECH06 (Asia) PS3s, Sony Entertainment Limited HK. HK, Taiwan, SG and MY are under their purview.
However, each country will only entertain sets that are distributed and technically sold in that country only. IE. SG sets will be covered by Sony SG, while MY sets will be covered by Sony MY.
If you have a SG set, you have to personally walk it into Sony SG, they dont accept mailed in set at all. I hv yet to hear of any good or bad service from Sony MY, but my guess that their service level shld be the same as SG.
It then all depends on what you want. The set are identical, works the same, and can have any problems posted all over the internet (YLOD, etc). The issue is if you are prepared to "walk" in to Sony SG to send it for warranty repairs, and to "walk" it out again. If that is no issue to you, then by all means do it.
Another difference (or similarity if you see it that way) is you can use SG or MY set to register for MY acct (and SG, US, Jap and UK accts, i have all of them). Only reason to register for a MY version, you can buy PSN MY stuff in RM and they accept MY credit cards. Content wise is exactly same as PSN SG.
I rather have the MY unit, as warranty is covered locally and i am based in KL. I do have a SG set, as i bought it way back when MY didnt have PS3 at all.
You decide which works for you.

Warranty is one thing, but number of sales represent country following. because majority of sets in malaysia is singapore sets (because sony was slow to get it approved here), the statistics will show singapore has more ps3 following.
so that's why PSN singapore got more support, game developers also cater to them more (just look at cod 4 mw2... got singapore flag but no malaysian flag).
I think should buy malaysian set. easier warranty and better for our country statistics. maybe our psn can even host games later... then faster play!

If Sony can bring down its price about 100 bucks or so.. then it would be a win for them.
Majority would like to save that 100+ bucks over a 1 year warranty even though they were late to get product approval.

QUOTE(s88 @ Jul 7 2010, 09:00 PM) thanks mate! i was also wondering about the warranty. we have games, gamestation & grainger for our main local ps3 shops. the sony ps3 doesnt go direct to our sony uk or something. we have to bring it back to the shop. if i have a ps3 from the uk, will sony malaysia accept my console if there's any problem with it? if i were to send it for fixing, where do i send it to? any local console gameshops would do? well sony malaysia wont accept other then their official ps3 , means malaysia ps3 only can repair and service at sony malaysia...same goes with other region of ps3..they dont have international warranty for it.. well yea , incase any probs you can send it to me to fix it....nowdays ps3 slims part are available in the market

How about bringing back PS3 games from UK to Malaysia? The games should be region free, but are they taxable?
Thanks!
