Sorry to hear that bro.

Try putting it in a vertical position and see whether it works (or horizontal position, if you placed it in a vertical position in the first place)

Hi,
I bought my ps3 last saturday. I have discussed the potential problem faced by the ps3 with the shopkeeper. He mentioned most possibly the blu-ray lense can get spoilt. The repair cost is around RM300~RM400.
My suggestion is to take great care of your ps3, do not play any pirated discs on it.

There have been a couple of PS3 consoles having premature lens failure despite all original softwares are used, there have been three or four cases in Penang so far. Luckily the shop gives warranty for the lens. Otherwise, RM1.7K plus will go down the drain. sweat.gif

Hmmm..

Try other medias.

DVD videos, PS2 original games, Music CD's.. See whether they work.
It might be your blu-ray game being corrupted (I'm not sure)

(I've never come across this sort of problem before, but it may be it)

Good luck.

If all else fails, bring back to the shop you bought from.

honestly.. i used to have a moded ps2 and play ONLY pirated games. the thing is i NEVER had any problem with my PS2, sometimes some problem with D9 disc only... played for 4 years and the PS2 still working fine.

now that i have ps3 i am hoping to support and play Only original games. Now playing first game already got lens problem (or whatever problem it is). i am really frustrated....

i know got warranty, but we buy in Msia the warranty depends on the shop.. i know the shop but not sure how much i have to pay for repair... really sian...

Added on August 20, 2007, 10:57 pmsunauto, which shop give warranty for lens?

i bought from penang prangin mall Ace. i didn't ask abt warranty when i buy, guess its a mistake.

Dark NT, sorry to hear your problems. IIRC, when u bought the 360, it had hardware problems and u traded in for a PS3, correct? really tough luck.

another forumer had a similar problem. hopefully the shop owner can help you out with warranty and repair.

Are you sure the shop didn't give you a set that already has problem and returned by others before?

throughout my experience, I felt that the PS1's lense is the best among all.....I am not sure about the PS3 but I heard it had lower durability compared to the PS2 lense

this is my assumption too. apparently they are cases like this. shops like this needs to be beaten with a nitestick.

I just noticed something, is there any Blu-Ray drive cleaner or something. hmm.gif We already have DVD drive cleaner. Probably some dust got stuck inside the lense? Just a thought.

Highly unlikely that it's a dust problem. He said that it's a brand new set used for around total of only 15 hours.
