coz he seems like finding way to escape from the cage O.O T.T Added on February 26, 2010, 11:57 amregarding the so-called calcium block~ izzit safe for hamster to consume it? they claim that it is for hamster to 'trim' their teeth~ (the shop is selling at RM2 each) (i saw another one that is bigger abit with a box packing, they sell it at RM20+ in "petsmore") btw, 2 things is almost the same to me~ both claimed its calcium block~ (but dunno what is the ingredients when i ask) last time i used to put a white thing~ something like dried fish part (dunno which part) its white in colour and my previous hamster bite it alwiz and the teeth almost gone~ ended up i've to take out tat thing ^^" lolx This post has been edited by minc3: Feb 26 2010, 11:57 AM |

QUOTE(minc3 @ Feb 26 2010, 11:37 AM) i do also have the same thing in my mind~ Actually can use toilet rolls (the center part) for them to chew on to trim their teeth.coz he seems like finding way to escape from the cage O.O T.T Added on February 26, 2010, 11:57 amregarding the so-called calcium block~ izzit safe for hamster to consume it? they claim that it is for hamster to 'trim' their teeth~ (the shop is selling at RM2 each) (i saw another one that is bigger abit with a box packing, they sell it at RM20+ in "petsmore") btw, 2 things is almost the same to me~ both claimed its calcium block~ (but dunno what is the ingredients when i ask) last time i used to put a white thing~ something like dried fish part (dunno which part) its white in colour and my previous hamster bite it alwiz and the teeth almost gone~ ended up i've to take out tat thing ^^" lolx It's also depends on your syrian whether they want to chew on it or not. Some will chew it when you first put into their tanks then don't touch anymore. Some can finish chew the whole thing in a few days. |

About hamsters (and gerbils) and their teeth and nails:
Something that I used to do, is provide some "driftwood". The kind which you put in an aquarium - either mango or jati, the two most common driftwood that you can find. They love to sleep on it, they love to burrow under it, scratch it, bite it, jump from it, crawl... very subjective... Basically, it's a wonderful play thing. Not to mention the aesthetics if you found a darn good looking driftwood! The only drawback is the cage itself. Driftwoods would be more suitable if you're keeping your pets in a tank. Smaller driftwoods may fit smaller cages, but will provide extra height for your hamsters to be more adventurous, and it might be dull looking... Anyway, back to topic, driftwoods are good alternative means for teeth and nail (grooming). They absolutely love it. Give it a try! |

Oooh, your little Ichigo is a long-haired syrian. You might want to use a toothbrush to brush his long fur if it gets too messy XD
P.S I wouldn't use wood shavings for this fella either, since they tend to stick on his fur. Besides, they're not very good for him. Try Corn cob or recycled Paper. This post has been edited by Sophiera: Mar 7 2010, 09:03 PM |

QUOTE(izzizahari @ Mar 8 2010, 12:50 AM) hi, im new with hamsters. just got my hamster today! so cute!! hehe My robo hamster also like that.. Is like the skins are wet wet looking.. I wonder is it because of the pee or bedding that cause them like that.. But whenever i clean the cage, I use a wet cloth to wipe them cause they smell darm stinky.. After wiping and drying them, their fur become like normal.. Few days later, they will become back the same.. Wet wet looking.. but it has some baldness, maybe careless care by the shop? will the bald spot go away? parasite infection? and what is the species and expected age? any help or suggestion is really appreciated!! So i think is normal, no worries.. |

QUOTE(Lisacrs @ Mar 9 2010, 07:26 PM) yes, given them bathsand and they super like it, hehe. but still wet2 looking also. thanks for all the reply. |

@ Snoopie: What your robo needs is a sand bath. In the wild they roll in sand to get rid of extra oil
