Try to connect my brother LCD TV from US to astro receiver but can only watch in black n white.

I believe it because the TV only support the NTSC colour coding and Astro receiver is outputing PAL signal.

Anyone can share info on how to solve this..

There are few things I can thing of..

1 - Get other receiver such as dreambox 500, can try a lot of nice feature. BUT I dont know whether dreambox already able to use astro GOLD card. I not into card sharing thing, just wanna use the receiver with my own card only.

2 - Get PCI DVB-S. Since I got HTPC connected to the TV all the time I think this also viable solution. BUT what kind of PCI card I need to use to be able to receive astro channel + where to put astro smartcard?

3 - Get a PAL - to - NTSC converter.. BUT does this thing exists, plus will drop any quality?

any kind of info is much appreciate.

Are you using old astro decoder with component cable connected to you lcd tv? If that is the case most likely you will get black n white picture. Check the cable and see you have got the right input connected on the lcd tv.

Q1 and Q2 ---> Guess you have already tried it yourself, dun think it works sad.gif

It's a silver decoder.. It's not cable, it the TV.. Even over the air channel is black and white (RTM, TV3 and so on).. Currently the tv good when use with HTPC (linux) + XBOX.. Both via HDMI.

attap! I think that guy need more info and explanation.

aniep, for your info if you want to connect astro decoder to NTSC TV can be done by using a PAL to NTSC converter. (try to goggling...) The cost for this converter depend on your budget from low end to high end with a features.

Since all video system fully digitized, this converter rarely available on market now days . Currently most LCD TV set already equip with multisystem. (PAL/NTSC/SECAM). So in the case I would consider your TV set is old set..!!

Since the PAL output is analog (composite) then converted back to NTSC, there will be loss of picture quality. My advice, Don't la, better buy new set LCD TV....!

Dreambox?, the name already indicate that the owner have to dream and positively it cannot be used with astro gold card at this moment. This box is for specific purpose and better not to be discuss here. (PM)

A PCI-DVB-S card also will not work with astro gold card...ha ha ha... what else..?. get new LCD TV from HTKAKI, it very cheap now... thumbup.gif

still want to buy converter?

hopefully your question will be answered.

not so old la, it's samsung A630 series.. it's my brother, he bought from US. The problem with US is the use the own standard, even the digital turner is ATSC.

Got another TV already but its quite weird to have 2 TV in living room. This one is 46" which need to be in living room coz of it size.. So does the astro since the whole family watch astro..

Anyway, I think just settle down for 2 tv for the moment until can find a proper solution.. maybe new astro HD decoder.. hehe, keep dreaming..

Ok la bro, I give you a tips where to get that thing! but dont expect a good result. it can be done by purchasing PAL to NTSC converter about RM100. Do search at Game shop (selling PS2/Wii AI/Ps3).

But again...dont expect a good result and hope will resolved your dream... wink.gif

You're not going to like this but here it is.

Converting a 50Hz signal to a 60Hz signal is not as easy as it sounds. As it is, Astro's 576i signal is already so heavily compressed that the picture quality is nothing to talk about. There will be massive judder if you do not get a good image processor.

To do this while still maintaining at least a decent image you would need a high quality image processor. I would recommend the DVDO Edge that you can use for your DVDs and all other standard definition stuff. It is the cheapest that I know of that can do a very good job. I am not sure who the distiributor is in Malaysia. It costs USD650 in the states

DVDO Edge

So there you go, as I told you you will not be happy with the suggestion but this is the best you can do for now.

yeah,

Svideo into converter then output VGA connect to your LCD will work. I got similar device call TVBox, i think can be found in All_IT.

The loss will be less comparing of convert to NTSC and back to your TV.

If the converter can did the job good, you should be able to get good picture out of it.

wow nice device but I think aniep will not afford it since the price almost as a new 42" LCD. This is multi AV switcher and processor at the same time will digitally converted all video source into ver1.3 HDMI output. But it a must for those having home theater system.

well aniep the choice is yours... icon_idea.gif
