why dun just plug in the HDD via sata connection to ryan,, but dun format...
*
The internal HD formatted with hidden partitions by AC Ryan POHD will provide the buffers needed for all other HD playback. So just need to format once using POHD (the internal one) and no need to do the same for external HD.

wow, LCD samsung with built it player Rocks....thats the future...
yes...thats probably it...maybe the 300MB provides the buffer or something like it...trouble is, need to buy a new hardisk to format it with PoHD.

Will formatting using PoHD erase all the files in the HDD?....or is it something like a surface format like converting FAT32 to NTFS without deleting the contents?
*
It will erase everything. One solution is format a new HD with POHD and then copy all the movies from the old HD to the new HD. Then use the old HD as external USB for extra storage.

but I have no issues with my realtek 1073 player via sata connection using NTFS 1.5TB HDD (but not partitioned or formatted by the realtek chip)..even with 43GB BD ISOs..

need to buffer or else dun play smoothly so don't think it's a good excuse for acryan if it jerks during playback..... of course unless the file is coded with a non standard parameter or weird codec..
*
"need to buffer or else dun play smoothly".

The above is too dramatic a statement hmm.gif I don't think I implied that unsure.gif

My take is, it will play smoothly most of the time , but the buffers will perhaps help in certain circumstances when playing 'taxing' files.

I couldn't find this at AC Ryan's website. I think I will wait for feedback first because it's a bit tricky reverting back once updated. Mine is still 1402 firmware. Thanks.

Updated to 2233 firmwware.

1) First thing I noticed was some video modes are screwed.

Was previously using 1402 firmware, there was no problem with 720P 60Hz (Don't have FullHD display yet). Now with 2233 using 720P 60Hz gives me a 'flattened' pic with washed out colours and contrast. 480P 60Hz also the same although I don't use it. *(Aspect Ratio is set at 16:9).

2) Adjusting the screen size function absolutely doesn't do anything. Don't know why they put that feature in, if it doesn't do anything.

3) My old playlist becomes "invalid file" or something like that after upgrade. Deleted them and recreated them now OK already. Not an issue here.

4) Subtitles which was previously all ok at default settings , now some of them becomes really huge. Have to adjust them individually to smaller size. More work to do espc if you have a lot of files with this problem.

5) Last time when resume a movie after stopping can still resume with the previously chosen Audio and subtitles (I think) , but now when resume it goes back to default audio only.

Just a brief testing I did only. Haven't played around further. I dread what I might find further biggrin.gif . Can't revert back to original firmware as it would require reformatting the HD doh.gif

From my observation old playlist becomes "invalid file", usually cause by a corrupted FAT. I use the windows scandisk to fix it.
*
No lah, just used the player to delete then recreate playlist again, no problems. Straight forward, no need to use PC.

Don't so shock lah. When upgrade to ver 2233, it's using new SDK ver2 so can't revert to old firmware without reformatting.

what meaning of BDISO not support? How to verify?
*
I think BDISO got support, but not fully support. Someone said no scene selection etc. I don't have ISO to test though.

Look at post No. 1563, item 10.

10) Add BD-ISO playback (more BD-ISO functions in development)

*
Sooner or later need to install new firmware because of the extras smile.gif . If need to revert back can install new blank HD and then revert to old firmware (I think). After that transfer the 1.5TB contents to new HD.

Big problem here.  I am upgrade to ver 2233 which was post by summer4128 and now i cant upgrade to ver2388 anymore.  It say the firmware only support for Play on HD.  Anyone facing this problem also?
*
Once I have downloaded will upgrade and let you know.

Update
--------
Upgraded. Process went without errors.

But after it restarted , when I checked the firmware info, it's still the same 2233. That means nothing was upgraded.

2nd update
-------------
Silly me. I mistakenly updated with the same firmware 2233. Upgraded with 2388 for sure this time. It appears to have updated successfully. Ver shows 2388.

Doesn't appear to be any different from 2233. But at least screen saver working properly now smile.gif

After being bombarded by complaints about fw 2388 here's a reply posted at the forums by Eugene of AC Ryan POHD :-

---------------------------------------
Guys, I have taken note of the matters being raised over here (referring to POHD forum) and I will provide some answers when I'm back to my desk on Monday. However, please bear with me at the moment cos I'm currently involved in an exhibition over in Singapore so I may not be replying much next week.

Some answers I would be able to provide now.

Subtitles
The previous firmware has been improved time and again on the subtitles colour, spacing, positoning, etc but all these had been "reset" with the new SDK. We need more time to adjust and fine-tune all these back to what we used to love. At the present moment in this firmware release, we have managed to improve on the colour depth of SRT subtitles.

HDMI handshake issues with certain LCD TV brands, especially Sony
This is an issue that doesn't seem to be resolved time and again even with the support from Realtek on this. Every firmware release we did seems to solve some but bring back some other's problem again. While Playon!HD isn't the only model affected, we have also seen some users seeking support from Sony which are given a firmware for their TV model to resolve the problem. Of course, we'll try to sort this out on our side if possible.

HD audio
The current upset has already been noted and we will sort this out with Realtek.

SPDIF RAW
Audio not playing (using optical) unless preview is started will be taken as a bug fix.

BT/SAMBA unable to install
Depending on your previous firmware version, you may need to reinstall the extension package again. Should the system auto installation fails, please download the package from our Playon!HD website (support tab) and try installing them off the root directory of your flash drive.
http://www.acryan.com/downloads/PV73100 ... ackage.zip

Other matters
Firmware unable to update with the error on screen, please contact me directly for a solution via eugene@acryan.com

Last of all, please have a nice weekend and do keep the bugs report coming for us to improve on them. For us to better sort out the bugs, please have them posted in our Technical Issues & Support section.

Are you talking about transferring files from the external HD to the Internal HD? The 'right' button plays an important part.

Sis looking for a media player that decodes DTS. She just wants to watch mkv files on her LCD TV, and is not going to invest in AVR etc for now. Will the AC Ryan do this? Also who is the distributor in Malaysia, and how much is it going for now? Thanks in advance!!
*
Sure, the POHD can downmix DTS to 2 channel for your TV. Just connect the HDMI cable (included in package) from the POHD to the TV and set the audio output to HDMI on the POHD setup option. No need for other cables.

Without the HD, some selllers from Lowyat.net selling for about RM630/-.

Main Local distributor is :-

http://www.boxbuilder.com.my/

But you must buy from their resellers. Look at their list.

If your Sis like to watch those Chinese serials , they are commonly in RMVB format. The WDTV Live can't play those files.
