i agree.... i have a phillips as well and i find it way betta compared to my frens sharp n sammy and even some panny models(LCD of course)

I notice that phillips doesnt agressively market their products much compared to brands like samsung and all..very hard to find reviews in magazines of many of their tvs even.. i wonder y

Philips let their product do the talking, Almost all of my personal care and household appliances are from Philips. But no AV stuff yet.

their dvd players were quite good....esp since they brought in divx playback

I've always wanted a Philips LCD, but their prices are sky high.

Philips's higher end product line is really good.. Dont expect too much from its low end product line with low price tag..

Is that superior or inferior to LEDs?

Of course, because its made of fluorescent lamp backlight, you can easily go to the local hardware shop to get a few spare

LED is better in terms of energy efficiency, lighting consistency, but more expensive due to the limited use compared to the more mature CCFL lighting.

Thats what I thought, thus wondering why Philips would use that instead of LED. Well, cost is a factor, I know.

Or could this be just something they need to push out in the market first (since they are falling behind the Japanese in terms of TV hype) until they fully develop their LED backlits?

I read somewhere last week that Philips just released a new BD player that would allow you to place your subtitle anywhere on the TV screen (bottom, top, middle, anywhere you like) ... it's not hardcoded anyway (that's why you can on and off it and change language also). This completely solves the issue with people opting for full cinemascope (2.35:1) or CIH - constant image height (2.20:1) screen format. sweet

Saw this in the Bangkok AV fair. No stretching but it crops the top and bottom. They were playing Wanted movie.

Showcased at the KL AV Fair, first impression is - darn wide! Must get used to it. I suppose it is necessary to have sufficient viewing distance unless you want to develop yr neck muscles.

The Ambilight - it changes proactively with the BG and the response time is fast! Though how much it increases your viewing pleasure in the long run, I dunno. The demo place is too bright IMHO to really appreciate/test the Ambilight.

I feel that although the idea is good the practicality is not there...how many hours a day wud u spend watching BD & how many on Astro? For me it's probably 20-80 so if it's only good for 20% of time then it's probably not worth it.

I'd really be interested to see the stretched output when playing Astro..see Nadal or tall van der sar turned into hobbits...

I wonder...in 10 years time....what will the ratio be?
I bet we will practically move our head left to right to watch whats going on on the other side ..so rather than stick to 3 speakers in front (L,R,C), now they have to put 5 speakers (L, MidL, R,MidR, 1 long center)
