I read somewhere last week that Philips just released a new BD player that would allow you to place your subtitle anywhere on the TV screen (bottom, top, middle, anywhere you like) ... it's not hardcoded anyway (that's why you can on and off it and change language also). This completely solves the issue with people opting for full cinemascope (2.35:1) or CIH - constant image height (2.20:1) screen format. sweet it's hard coded into that and won't show up in the picture if you watch 2.35:1
