one thing is about attractive football..another thing is effective football...i think during JM time in Chelsea, he did deliver attractive football when he play 4-3-3 system with drogba as central forward and robben and joe cole on the flanks. but everything was destroyed when the owner try to force JM to play 4-4-2 system to accommodate the arrival of shevchenko. by the way, i don't think SAF wants to retire in the near future. i can still see the fire in him to continue leading MU to a lot of trophies to come. but who knows, perhaps he might chose to retire if he win another champions league trophy.
They were quite good going forward when 2 of Duff, Robben and J.Cole on the wings, with Gudjohnsen in midfield started. But they have these safety first approach, close shop attitude toward the end of games. Then after that he was sort of forced to play Sheva, and he went with that wingless approach, which fail spectacularly. 4 midfield diamond, and 2 strikers?
Looking at him with Inter in the Serie A, where they are streets ahead(should be, because of the scandals gone last few seasons which made Juventus have to start from square one) of everyone, yet they really didn't have it all their way. Guess the team really isn't that good as it is made up to be by the media. Apart from Zlatan, they don't really have anyone there.
If we're looking for someone with the right mentality and charisma to take over SAF, then I would say he would be the top one in that respect. But if we're talking about approach to games, not quite so sure.
