welkam to teh club. hope you enjoy your stay here.

Feel free to ask anything. I'm also a K50AB user as well. But design wise, both are using the same hardware, so anything can also ask any K40 user here.

yea. Unlike most intel, most amd support virtualization. Only one model doesnt. I dont remember which model is it. Buat athlon and turion support virtualization. Or if it still dont satisfy u just google.^^
*
i beg to differ this.

you have to see the proc series first. the one with Core Duo/Core 2 Duo support virtualization. and I have used BenQ S41 that uses C2D T7100. My VMWare and Virtual PC2007 both reports that Hardware Virtualization is supported and is used.

The 'older' Pentium 4 series (now rebadged as T2xxx series and T4xxx series) that is the one that have no Virtualization.

hey hey....anyone here can solve my problem??
i wan help a girl buy laptop.....so the choice i give her is asus k50ab or dell inspiron 14....which both price almost the same....
She working at genting...and she told me genting ppl all say asus not good, suks, will regret after buy......i also felt like WTF?? coz first time hear ppl say asus not good.....
So, any point to let her feel Asus is better??? or dell really better than asus???
BTW, she use it for movie and internet, not for gaming la.....
*
movie n internet, get her a system that uses only integrated graphic. saves more battery and much2 cooler. get dell to shut their mouth up. and buy the optional extended warranty. its your gf ear that is going to hear the annoyance at the office if she get the asus.

if not, get her a hp elitebook. much2 expensive but better heat management and cool operation all the way, even with a dedicated graphic.

I've used both Intel and AMD laptop. In my view, there are no difference whatsoever. Why you compare the old AMD with new Intel? If I compare the 'New' intel T4xxx series, any single core AMD will definitely pawn Intel.

Old tech compare with old tech, new tech compare to new tech. why compare old proton wira with new Honda City?

doesnt make sense.

k10 is not for overclock. its just to undervolt to save battery and lessen the heat.

---

I've tried the new BIOS, this is the thing I see, in dGPU mode, the brightness can now be controlled.

Guys, i'm considering getting a new HDD soon, and i'm in a bind.

should I get the larger 500GB 5400rpm hdd or the faster 320GB 7200rpm hdd?

is the performance in both hdd is really noticeable?

QUOTE(User_Xp @ Sep 18 2009, 09:47 AM)
where u find the 7200rpm hdd ?

i suggest u to buy external hdd...easier to carry
*
there are a lot of sellers here do sell 7200rpm HDD. To differentiate, WD Scorpio Blue is 5400pm, and WD Scorpio Black is 7200rpm.
I already have an external hdd. My old laptop uses WD scorpio blue 320GB one, and for some reason, I didn't like this K50AB Hitachi HDD so much. Uses more power, but slower and makes noises too. and comparably warmer than my WD.

(the reason I say use more power is Hitachi HDD uses 700mA while WD uses 500mA power.)

QUOTE(GothFebrio @ Sep 18 2009, 11:22 AM)
u can refer here http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2.5-har...chmarks,25.html
and here http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-2....chmarks,53.html

but currently in the market here 7200rpm wit 16mb cache is western digital 320gb.
but i will not recommend buying western digital disk...as it makes weird sound...
find seagate disk. its always the best.
*
thanks will look into it.

That is weird, my WD never fails me, and in my experience in desktop HDD, the one who always makes a noise is Maxtor. Samsung and WD never fails my expectations. Seagate I have not been using for a long time already, coz some incident.

QUOTE(shockk @ Sep 18 2009, 12:26 PM)
For me, more space is always more important than speed, which doesn't make that much difference.
*
Thanks for the tip.

QUOTE(Najmods @ Sep 18 2009, 12:33 PM)
Performance of harddisk is not really depends on the rotational speed, the density of drive platter plays important role too, as you can see from some high density disks with single or double platter reaching more than 500GB can beat 10000rpm Raptor (I talking about desktop drive here)

Its up to you whether you really need 500GB or just 320GB. Take note too 7200rpm drive can get hotter than slower speed, and possibly makes more noises too
*
Is that right? I better research that one particular point there. Thanks for the info.

this laptop wont be unique, if you want unique, go and get something with a bigger pricetag or go get a brand less people buy.

In my personal experience using a laptop, if the laptop have a really sweet price/performance ratio like this K40/K50, you'll end up not unique anymore. people really sucks for a laptop like this. and surely, after a year, there will be new laptop like this, and they will also 'brand' us suckers like we did now to cq-40 users. so lets hope we have around a year minimum to enjoy our laptop....

vista uses a lot of HDD, at least 12GB. And to recover space, I usually off the system recovery, this step can save up to 5GB for me. and ram, minimum ram to be able to use windows comfortably without gaming is about 2GB. and if want to gaming at least 3GB.

if Vista other version like home premium, 2GB is quite ok for gaming. Only ultimate and business needs high amount of ram.

to recover more hdd space, try to delete some of your pr0n collection. i think this step can really dramatically increase hdd space. i had saved around 15gb by doing tis. (bye bye maria, rino, fuuka, meguru, satomi...)

if it is the same as k50 bios, it should fix the brightness prob that when u use the dGPU mode. it also fix the display prob when go to sleep in dGPU mode. the old bios have this bug the display just wont get back up continue on sleeping, the new one fix it.

2 bugfix as far as i know.

--p/s = dont freak out when your laptop "hangs" for about 10-15 seconds. it is normal for any system to hang a bit when flashing. DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER. or you will probably have a really big door stopper or a paper weight.

But one thing i dislike this kind of finishing, it it a fingerprint magnet. I spend a lot of time try to polish the laptop so it wont have any marks on it. *sigh*

nope, not like that.

p0 and p1 is the processor state.

it represents 2 state that your processor supports. the default is p0 = high performance (2.1GHz/1.125v) while p1 = low power (1050mz/0.95v)

i can force my processor to be in low power state if i set both p0 and p1 to be 1050mhz/0.9v

vice-versa, i can force my proc to be in high performance mode if i set both p0, p1 to be 2.1GHz/1.125v
