Sometimes very hot even short hours use.
If your speakers are 4ohm (most are 6 or 8 ohm) make sure 608 output is set the same otherwise it gets hot very fast.
As long as you have good ventilation / cooling fan, such heat should not be a problem.
For more info, check earlier posting on this forum for given solution.

I heard from a review that unit comes with a nice big fan and it doesn't runs hot at all. The previous Onkyo ^07 runs very hot but Onkyo have improve the 608 with a fan to remove the heat.

I am not sure Vincentboleh is actually owns the 608 or are just talking base on previous onkyo models. Can clarified please?

I have been using 608 since July 2010 together with four other friends and i can conclude that it can be very hot if played long hours.
My 4 Epos ELS 303 speakers (Front and Surround) are rated 4ohm;
therefore, I advise to set speakers config to 4ohm to reduce stress to the AVR which is 6ohm default.
My friend's are either 6 or 8 ohm speakers; so this setup is not required.
I place my AVR in a wooden cabinet with a fan running via USB and no door (for ventilation)
My friend placed their AVRs on top of wooden cabinets (open air) and they yet complained excessive heat from the AVR top.
So far, after using more than 3 months, mostly on Media Player, none of our units are burned; means OK.

I have the entry midrange 1008 as spare for now. Runs hot even in fully air-cond room. Nevertheless, no clipping or problem whatsoever. Tested at -10dB to drive 4ohms speakers. No problem.

The only problem with this unit is the not-so-advanced Audyssey. It is not even MultEQ XT doh.gif

Now, thinking of getting 3008 to pit it against the coming soon Denon 4311 since both are using the latest MultEQ XT32, which supposedly to be very effective in room correction.

The fact that the Onkyos run hot is well known. I would imagine the designers already factored that in so that even long use does not pose any problems.

Hi guys, I will be picking up the Onkyo 308 tomorrow and plan to pair it with the PSB Alpha B1 speakers. The 308 is rated only 65 watts. Is it sufficient to drive it? Anyone has this combination?

Interesting. Some sites specify it as 65 watts per channel. http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers/onkyo...7-33997667.html and http://hometheatergears.com/onkyo/onkyo-tx-sr308-review/ including Amazon and OnkyoUSA.

Apparently the Asian model is different from the USA model. Why would the Asian model has the higher power output? http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR3...ss=Receiver&p=s

It's because they use different rating system. Note the JEITA standard, which I think is overly optimistic.

The more conservative rating is 65W (as used in USA).

So, it is 65W then. Btw, the lowest price I got for the 308 is $1,500.00 Anyone knows any shop selling lower than that?
