my previous experience with WD TV on m2ts is quite pleasing albeit that no HD audio.

BD iso or m2ts (in bdmv folder), it makes no difference to me as ar188 pointed out. My 6500 able to play m2ts flawlessly as opposed to bd iso, inconsistently.

you mean with that beta firmware can't play BDISO properly? need to use BDMV folder only can ar? hmm.gif

Most importantly, it can support HD RMVB rclxms.gif  thumbup.gif
*
I don't see where it says it supports HD RMVB (720P) hmm.gif

RMVB supports up to 1024x576x24, 1024x576x30, or 800x600x30 compressed video resolution

WDTV stated clearly that it has

1. No HDMI
2. no 1080p
3. Component output up to 1080i
4. plays HD files up to 1080p as long as they are in AVI/RMVB and etc, but not MKV (Which i wonders why)
5. better and improved UI
6. Output AC3/DTS via TOSLINK also
7. very small in size
8. ...
*
MPEG1/2/4 supports up to D1 resolution (720x480 in NTSC, 720x576 in PAL)
RMVB supports up to 1024x576x24, 1024x576x30, or 800x600x30 compressed video resolution

dun think so.. just SD formats, no HD 720p AVI/RMVB
so basically it's a, upscaling (to component) Standard def media files, player..

cheers.. smile.gif

lifestyle htib not cheap if above 2k to accept optical in dts. Better get basic 600-800 range avr + speaker combo. More function and generally better sound.

Its funny how people would always blame the player itself.  Could it be the problem with the movie?  Just my thought.
*
could be, but according to various online sources, WDTV only got around 60% compatibility with MKVs compared to newer players like xtreamer or even existing ones Dvico/Egreat..

wdtv can play around 60% of 1080p mkv files...
but i think 100% of 720p mkv files
correct me if im wrong...

btw, im thinkin to sell my wdtv
wan to upgrade
huhuhu

Not sure where they get those numbers.  So i have only come across 1 or 2 mkv that doesn't play on the WDTV.  There are also a few of them that suffers image break up but again those numbers are very small.  I remember i see the A.C.Ryan Playon! HD website states WDTV can play like 50% of the mkv but what do you expect from a company that is trying to sell their own products.
*
I also dunno.. cos I'm not wd owner.. just checking the sites,

xtreamer says 60% for wdtv so I guess not so bad as acryan.. biggrin.gif

maybe they take into account 1080p and also DTS (before the downmix capability?) hmm.gif

i think what its mean by 60% is that most of the mkv file has high bit rate...
WDTV can support below than 10000 kbps (based on my experience lor)
but sometimes, it can play more than that... dono why tongue.gif

so if u download.. make sure u see the bit rate figure for that mkv file
but for all 720p, u dont worry
can play all without problem smile.gif

ar188,
aiyaaa.. i tot u owner lor
hahahah...
ayat cam owner tongue.gif
huhuhu
*
was potential owner, so did some research on it mah..

but the new 2009 china brand models using the same chipset solution as ACryan and xtreamer will surpass WDTV capabilities while being lower priced... so those are the ones to watch out for.. even you say you are looking at upgrading so I sense some limitations on the WD already...

Most of the mkv ACyan or xtreamer most ly for more features such as Lan and internet connections for thing like youtube, and internet radio.
*
more importantly for HDMI 1.3 to bitstream HD audio.. from m2ts
