i tried giving mealworms to my kenshin  before but he dun wanna eat...the worms all die in the end...so kesian plus rugi oso....

now kenshin start to eat like normal d...thanks for the advise on vit-c eric happy.gif i have no idea hedgies can have vit-c deficiency oso....

and his getting tamer oso...if he's up and active i put my hand near him inside his place and he'll happily climb up to my hand..haha so cute~!
*
You are welcome. LC-Vit is not for vit-c actually.. It's something called Lysin inside, that helps boost up their immune system and also appetite..

Great to see improvement in u and kenshin~

Try to introduce the mealworm or superworm to kenshin, it would be better if u include living food as part of the diet. U can leave 1-2 mealworm inside the food bowl with kibbles for a nite, i'm sure he will eat it..

Hi there,
I'm planning to get 1 as my pet ^^
still reading information about hedgehog....
Want to ask...
Can I use aquarium as my pet house?
*
I hav a fren who is using aquarium, don really like it.. it's nice to see..but it can cost u a lot too if u get a big big aquarium..No point if u keep hedgie in a small 2-3ft aquarium..

Go Pets Store and search for jtl 's thread. Got hedgie starter kit inside, every basic thing is included and selling in reasonable price.

QUOTE(ReBeLLioN @ Oct 31 2009, 08:39 AM)
can... but we not encourage to use aquarium...

1st hard to clean
2nd air ventilation not good enough...

btter find like zoozone cage... or c&c(correct me if im wrong)
*
You r right.

C&c kinda hard to wash if use for hedgie...troublesome.. but looks nice..

There is other cages variety in the market, storage box can be used too as long as it's big enough...

QUOTE(El Sol @ Nov 2 2009, 04:25 PM)
how old can a hedgehog be considered as an adult??..

and what type of RC should I give to hoglet and adult Hedgehog?
*
For hoglet usually we use RC36 which is specially for kitten, because of higher protein. They are still young and in developing age, so they need higher protein in their diet.

Slowly ppl will change when the hedgie turn 10months old or 1year...

However, i think it would be better if u observe the size, and also monitor the exercise level of the hedgehog, then only decide how much protein should be consumed by the hedgehog.

For those skinny, or high exercise level hedgehog, they may need to consume higher protein. For those bigger/overweight hedgie, you may need to swap to lower protein for a short period of time.

Like mine, because kenken is kinda big last time, so actualy cut down the protein consumed daily, now he slim down already to a more ideal size, so i jus maintaining his weight and size now.

QUOTE(kaoru himura @ Nov 2 2009, 06:42 PM)
so...if a hedgie is around 10 months old and considered normal size what RC should i give him? if oversize pulak which variant got less protein? my Kenshin looks like he's put on a little too much weight after he overcome his appetite lost last month, now I'm worried that he's fat... i mean his gaining weight drastically, felt heavy when i put him on my palm, i have big palm (compared to most woman) and he's full on my palm...
*
Normal size jus feed RC32 and mix with one hedgie diet. Add in bit fibre source into your hedgehog diet is kinda good too.. You can use cornflakes/cereal...

Let kenshin roam more frequently, or run on the wheel~

QUOTE(El Sol @ Nov 2 2009, 08:21 PM)
RC36 for hoglet right?

how bout adult?... smile.gif

so, around 10 month ++ considered adult?...

mine is still hoglet... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Adult u can use RC32.. 35% of protein.. but let the hedgie maintain certain degree of exercise level..

QUOTE(kazeko @ Nov 6 2009, 02:56 PM)
Hi... anybody here using D.i.y wheel??
Because in hedgehogcentral they rate Wobust wodent wheel, silent spinner, comfort wheel all those as BAD wheels  hmm.gif

they even said the wobust wodent wheel might cause Serious injuries or DEATH if the hedgehog trying to jump out of the wheel and get stucked
shocking.gif

i saw one wheel called D.I.Y Bucket wheel and they said its good... quite easy to make too according to them
*
Wonder why a hedgehog will try to 'jump' out of the wheel... So far i didnt hear any issue regard wobust or silent wheel.. Jus silent wheel is bit not stable and will fall if ur hedgie is too heavy..

D.I.Y wheel? You can give it a try if you can get all those accessories and tools, jus make sure it's stable and safe. biggrin.gif

As what i know, long long time ago there is a member here DIY his own wheel for hedgie, but too bad he didnt appear here anymore.

the safest wheel rated now would be cake walk supreme hedgehog wheel...but it's really too expensive to bring it into malaysia...Unless you are willing to spend 300-400 for that...

Im trying to imagine too how the hedgehog jump out of that small hole  shocking.gif

I saw the cake walk supreme also... damn niceeee drool.gif

But i thought if im gonna spend so much on the wodent wheel and it got so many cons then i maybe need to find alternatives...
*
So far i haven heard any issue from wobust owner yet..And i think it's pretty safe wheel because it's real stable.

QUOTE(DecemberRose @ Nov 7 2009, 12:42 AM)
hello....i need some suggestion
I m bit worry my hoglet,he keep scratching his back once he wake up,should i take him to vet?
*
As rebel said, is normal for them to scratch a bit...

But if he do it frequently then check and see his skin surface...could be dry skin with a lot skin flakes..then u hav to use good shampoo that cure dry skin...

If not, it could be mites.. U hav to send for vet check lo..

Silent spinner don hav the front panel.. Wodent Wheel got.. so ur hedgie wont fall out lo..

Silent spinner is not that stable, Wodent wheel much stable than silent spinner. Silent spinner always fall when hedgie run faster.. And it fell on my hedgie b4..

Silent spinner cant detach and wash. Wodent wheel can detach the track and panels much easier to wash..

tarik duri depan definitely is not a correct way to handle a hedgehog.

actually hedgehog need a big cage too. There is no such thing call 'unneccesary'...

Zoozone 1 and 2 can get at a lot petshop nowadays.. PetShack, Pets Safari and etc u also can get.

I'm using zoozone 2 now, but i still letting kenken free roam at my house sometime..because exercise is kinda important for them.

Added on November 10, 2009, 1:13 amAdd on, i got my mealworms and superworms from petshack as well. They do gutload their worms..unlike other aquarium shop, only feed their worms newspaper..

U need to get wobust.. wodent wheel senior is too small for hedgie.. and the hole of front panel also too small for hedgie to go in.

Rebel, try crunch RC and 8in1 into small small pieces, then mix together.. biggrin.gif Mix like 80:20 ratio first...then slowly increase..

You don need a animal clipper to trim hedgie nail. Jus use a normal human clipper. Using dog/cat clipper will injure the hedgie easily.

Jus hold their leg/hand firmly, then trim one by one. Jus make sure u trim the nip, if not will bleed.

Hey guys, which bedding did you all find best suits hedgies? Back 2 Nature or Breeder Celect?
And did you DIY the housing for hedgie? Living World Dome is a lil too big and takes up alot of space. sad.gif

Thanks. smile.gif
*
I prefer to use Back2Nature, because it's softer. Breeder Celect is bit hard... Don forget ur hedgie step on it with bare foot..

U can use the Living World Snap In as the hidehouse..nice to see and not as big as dome..

Here is one photo... but not so clear if has mites anot...
the most mites at the back of its ear running

less than 50, depend on wat disease. no worry, dr jenny is the most reasonable charging vet in kl area.

actually we hardly can see mites moving by using raw eyes..so better still send for vet check.

i heard JimJim scratching sometimes...think will bring him to Dr Jenny by this weekend for a check up...
new born hoglet is it normal to have those dandruff on their skin??is it their mummy din help them clean up properly??how to cure the dandruff?
*
Hedgie can develop dry skin very easily. Therefore, select a good shampoo that helps to relieve itchy and dry skin issue is very important.

I'm using earthbath oatmeal for kenken, over the months i nvr see any dandruff b4.
