QUOTE(QuickFire @ Oct 9 2009, 09:53 PM)
I just saw Trick 'r Treat. Fantastic! While not really scary, it is consistently funny and fun, and when it is not those, it is suspenseful. Easily puts Drag Me to Hell to shame. If anything, this goes to show how tame DMTH was. I heard this is a bit like Creepshow, which I've never seen. Highly recommended.

Thank you xy2610 and Quickfire for the heads'up.

Will look for this movie.

I highly recommend Creepshow Quickfire, if you claim you are a fan of Evil Dead 1 and 2.

Creepshow is one of the rare gems that didn't really get much attention.. Creepshow 1 is awesome, 5 different stories... Creepshow 2 is still good, but only 3 stories instead of 5.. but please, at any cost, AVOID CREEPSHOW 3! It's such an epic fail.. not by original writers, and didn't make sense, it's way too retarded..! Trust me, you will regret watching the 3rd.. I did.
I disagree.. Blair Witch is nowhere near Evil Dead 1 & 2.. I found Blair Witch to be extremely dull, boring and a waste of time. If you want a better 'documentary', watch Cannibal Holocaust.. it came out in the 70s, and I think Blair Witch was based on it, and it's way better. It's just that I was deeply, EXTREMELY disturbed after watching Cannibal Holocaust when I was 11, that I lost my appetite for a week and vowed never to watch it again but it might be your cup of tea. lol

In my opinion, if you want something similar to Evil Dead 1 & 2, you'd have to refer to the classics.. NONE of the recent movies, that's after the 90s can be considered close to what the classics used to be.. exception to maybe a few... hmm maybe you can try looking at classics like Brain Dead/Dead Alive (by Peter Jackson), Zombi (Lucio Fulci)... or even The Dead Trilogies by George A. Romero... City of the Living Dead...or Demons 1 & 2 (Lamberto Bava).. these are some of my faves that I consider in par or better than Evil Dead.

Hello nazmanson, cathy82, oucheev

Welcome to the thread!

Great list nazmanson. May I inquire as to why there are three Dawn of the Dead (Number 2, 4, 8?)

cathy82... you're a gal?????! Kidding tongue.gif (I know there are other ladies who read this thread, just being a pain) Have you watched the 4th season of Supernatural?

oucheev, yes, the First Poltergeist (German word, means mischievous spirit) is the best, and do you know that new research is actually indicates that Poltergeist may be more telekinetic [living child not sure of his/her powers] rather then spiritual.

Welcome again, enjoy and keep the thread coming!! nod.gif

Resident Evil (2002) BD

PQ and AQ 5.1 Dolby TrueHD is Great! I think I watched this after playing residetn Evil 0. This is my favorite Resident Evil movie. I love the way they introduce the walking dead (spooky), bloody Dobermans, the Red Queen (wasn't a character in the game) and also the laser cutter (it slices, it dices). The Bangalow, the underground labs and also the tactical team were well done. Also love Milla Jovovich clothing (thank you costume designer Richard Bridgland for that). It is now difficult to watch Eric Mabius as Matt after his Ugly Betty's role... tongue.gif

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) BD

I think the PQ of the first one is a hairline better then this. Also interesting that they put PCM surround instead of Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master Audio???? Originally, I like the third on better then this one. Milla Jovovich really kicked ass in this one. Also like the walking dead better here (more of them). Broader landscape then the first movie and has spectacular stunts. I know I'm going to be criticize for this but cannot say I crazy about Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (a little plasticy....). The Lickers are better managed in this movie as well.

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) BD

After rewatching all the Resident Evil together, I was surprise to discover that I like this the least now, although it is the most cinematographic one. Some shots of Milla Jovovich was a little "unreal" (I don't think it issue to DNR, because my DVD copy show the same issue). They must have "photoshop" her to make her face a tad too smooth (younger??). Other shot she looked natural..... Also interesting that this is the only Resident Evil that is shot in bright daylight. The crows from hell was a nice touch and would have like to know what happened to the Angie Ashford character. Not sure why Ali Larter is in this one (not a very big role) and Oded Fehr makes a poor love interest for all the gals (except for Ashanti character). The idea of a domesticated zombie was interesting (Fido anyone?)

For the Zombie lovers out there Eeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuughh (slowly turning into a zombie)

*Ahem*

An American Werewolf in London (1981) tongue.gif

Just to prove how "OLD" I'm, going to review another oldie but golden.

Got this on BD recently, and I have to say, it is an improvement over the Region 1 DVD I have. Picture quality MAJOR improvement, will leave that for later.

For the uninitiated, this is THE werewolf movie.

Rick Baker (makeup artist) wowed the movie industry with this one.

For people who loves Dragged Me To Hell (old skool) please take note. This is THE horror/comedy movie for me (IMO, please, no machine guns, they are so violent and messy!! smile.gif )

Those who love more adult theme, there are somethings for you as well (not much, a little bit)

This movie is about 2 young American kids (guys) who are backpacking in the English country side, and had a chance encounter with a vicious furry creature. One was killed and the other was rescued (the Americans). The one who is rescued was sent to a London hospital, where he meets up with a "overly friendly" English nurse. As time progresses, full moon is around the corner...

Going back to the picture quality, having got the dvd version, the smudge on David's face (on the DVD) were CLEARLY claw marks on the BD (kudos, Mr Rick Baker). Grain haters take note, THERE is grain, but I think it adds to the feel of the movie

DTS Master Lossless 5.1 has good directional sounds (when the two American kids were in the English country side, at night, with the full moon), it was clear a "thing" was circling around them, hurdling them to where it wants them to be.

I remember it being a little controversial when it first came out (e.g. too adult, too funny, too horrifying??) and it along with Evil Dead 3 coin the phrase Horror comedy!

My two sens worth!

Final Destination (the first one, 2000)

This is a very good example of how HD can be a negative to an actor.

Devon Sawa has very BAD skin and it shows (I think he also has cold sore!!) It was so bad after the the first act, they started to use filter on him, just to make his skin look smoother, it only made him look waxy.

Thank god this movie's got Ali Larter!! smile.gif

The most original Final Destination

Other then Devon Sawa's bad skin, he actually delivered a solid performance.

Interesting how Seann William Scott is bigger then he is??!

Will also take this opportunity to point out that 1 year before he was in The Final Destination, he was in another horror/comedy movie called idle Hands which was release in an inopportune time (after the Columbine incident) and it tank in the box office. I kinda like it, also it has Jessica Alba in it. And I can never get a copy if it on DVD.

Back to Final Destination, what is interesting about this movie is it is basically a "snuff" movie, and people get high on seeing other people bites it in creative situations.

Sound on this BD is good (Dolby TrueHD). When things go boom, they go BOOM.

The novelty of this movie does diminish everytime you view it, and have several sequels doesn't help.

Nevertheless, it is a good horror movie

My two sens.

Pandorum (2009)

Well, what can I say about this movie indeed! (Yeah, yeah, never stopped me b4 tongue.gif)

It is a Dark, Isolated, Lonely, Claustrophobic, Vicious, Tensed, Thrilling, Horrific, Suspenseful movie.

It is nice to see Dennis Quaid in a movie, longer then 5 minutes (e.g. G.I. Joe).

For some odd reason, when I'm watching the movie, I keep thinking that Ben Foster role (Bower) would be better played by Cam Gigandet (Gallo) and vice versa!! (Must be how Ben Foster played The Stranger in 30 Days of Night)

The "baddies" are scary (they eat their dead, though by the end...)

I'll shut up and not spoil it for those of you who have not watched it.

I rate this 8/10.

Susuk Pocong

user posted image

Watched this yesterday when I was bored. It was so-so. Not really about the pocong, it's more about the girl who wants to get back her husband's love interest by wearing susuk pocong, which actually is just susuk emas. Then there's other girl's obsession the husband too. So it's much more drama on that rather than about the pocong. Quite boring. Starting was quite good, but then got bleh. Obvious After Effect on the pocong face, which i really hate.

Trick 'r Treat (2008)

What a surprising and fantastic find (thank u forumers who had recommended it)!

There are several somewhat interlinking stories all occurring on on Halloween's night

Each with it own uniqueness!

I love the little pumpkinhead (who is both cute and disturbing)

I know there are some forumer who had not watched it yet.

I STRONG recommend this, 8.5 out of 10!

Enjoy!!

Suicide Circle (Jisatsu Sakuru) aka Suicide Club and My Bloody Valentine ? How was it?  unsure.gif
Heard about it quite a long time ago, but still didn't have the chance to watch it yet  sweat.gif

There seem to be some competition between the Winchester brothers.

One did My Bloody Valentine

and the other the remake of Friday the 13th!

My Blood Valentine is okay (with some nudity)

Friday the 13th has nudity too (more actually) and is better made

Haven't seen the rest...

QUOTE(myVelouria @ Nov 21 2009, 11:52 PM)
hi all,

i've been a horror movie fan since i dont know when. just wanna recommend few movies;

[attachmentid=1316644]

from dusk till dawn, old movie. george clooney looks really young and quintin tarantino is the support actor. story about two serial killer brothers going on a trip and end up at a bar in the middle of nowhere. it looks fine before midnight but soon realize its a trap for drivers/travellers, setup by a bunch of vampires.

[attachmentid=1316653]

Pulse (Japan) is the real deal. dont watch the us remake, i never did. this one creeps me out, especially the scene 'dancing' ghost coming towards you. memorable scene; the one with a silhouette of a guy attached to a wall whispering "tasukete....tasukete..." (help me...help me...)

I know quite a few people mentioned Audition. I yawned a lot during the first hour, but then the tension slowly builds up. the ending is always f**ked up. memorable scene; when the girl *** the guys' **** with a piano **** while saying "kiri...kiri...kiri..." (cut...cut..cut)
*
GREAT recommendations.

I absolutely LOVE From Dusk Till Dawn!

I've seen the American version of Pulse, not the Japanese. I understand the Japanese version is MUCH better.....
