what about the devil's advocate?
*
Devil's Advocate is good, but personally, I prefer Alan Parker's Angel Heart (1987, with Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet [of the Cosby Show fame]) better, the whole movie is pretty slow but the ending.... *shivers*

Going to be pretty hard to get a copy though. They just reissued on Blu-Ray and any "official" copy you find in Malaysia is going to be pretty hacked up!! *Sigh* Again, I hope I'm NOT encouraging inappropriately age people to go watch this. Definitely for the aged!!

You should try Manhunter, a different adaptation of Red Dragon.
*
Manhunter, I've seen that actually. it has that C.S.I guy in it (William Petersen). It was made B4 Silence of the Lambs.

Didn't like that one. Felt that the character Will Graham played by William Petersen was a little too detached. Watched it on TV after Silence of the Lambs made it big.

I definitely like Red Dragon better (kudos to Edward Norton, although the book was called Manhunter like the original movie)

I also like to add that NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY plays Hannibal quite like Sir Anthony Hopkins!!

I like horror movies so much and I watched majority of movies you had described. But up until now,my number one horror film of all time is:

THE THING (1982) by John Carpenter

I personally thinks this movie really defines what the horror movie should be.It is not about ghosts, spirits or psychos or typical alien. It is about a microscopic level aliens with unknown default form which live and infect living/dead organism. You can watch it in youtube.Beware!Dont eat(especially burger) while watching The Thing movie or you are going to puke in some gross scene...
*
Hello. Welcome to the forum

Yes, John Carpenter's The Thing is pretty good.

For some ODD reason, movie makers nowadays have to make horror movies "sexy"!!?

Not so sure I agree with that, but the saying, they DON'T make them like they use to, definitely applies....

I do agree with you.
Unfortunately, nudity sells.
I also hate PG 13 horror.
They are jokes.

Case in Point Jennifer's Body

I'm about 50 minutes into the movie, and I couldn't care less...

What were the producer and director thinking when they made this movie!!??

Because it has Megan Fox in it, people are going to flock to it??

Never mind that the story sucks and is pointless????? vmad.gif

AND YOU DON'T GET TO SEE JENIFFER'S BODY!!!!!!!?????????? tongue.gif

Goodness Gracious Me!!

This is the SCARIEST movie I have ever seen.

It is VERY low production and I scared the $h!t out off every person in the cinema.

At least 5 couples walked out off the cinema because they got to scared.

I still don't know if it is REALLY or not!!

Oooooh I'm a huge fan of horror movies (to which, most of my friends couldn't share the thrill).

Anyway my top ten (not in order):

1. The Exorcist
2. Jeeper's Creepers
3. Ju-On
4. Shutter
5. The Eye
6. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
7. Silent Hill
8. Child's Play
9. Nightmare on Elm Street (yikes, Freddy Krueger!)
10. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Great list, though I never really got Child's Play

They are remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street. Hope they do a good job (Michael Bay is involve)

I've noticed there are a lot of ladies on this thread!!?! (It's a good thing)

is that so? laugh.gif I only read the last few pages and noticed quite a number of guys instead of ladies. Why is it a good thing...? sweat.gif I don't favour romance or chick flicks. I watch them on TV sometimes but that's all about it. Action, horror, thriller is much better (for me!). Child's Play is pretty good in the 1st and 2nd season. 4th season is laughable.

Serious? Nightmare on Elm Street? Michael Bay? Wow sounds good! Can't wait to see what surprises he'll give us XD

Two of my all-time favourite directors are Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino. Am hoping that some day they'll work together and come up with a super dark movie laugh.gif

Never gonna happen.

I don't think there is a sound stage big enough to hold both their egos together!! biggrin.gif

Anyway, I saw Triangle with a friend yesterday, and I think it's right to classify it under psychological horror.

There is at least one image in the movie that will make you scream "OHH GODAMNN SHIT HELL!". Or at least make you churn in your stomach. Guaranteed.

I watched it at my friend's house. He downloaded it. It's a bluray rip, but the one he got was not HD. Quality was still good as its x264-encoded. I didn't plan to watch it but he just left it on and we watched it without knowing what to expect. What a pleasant surprise.

I'm looking forward to The House of the Devil next. That sounds good.
*
U know what Mr Quickfire, I gonna surprise u and COMPLETELY agree with you about The Triangle!

It is an Aussie movie, posing as an American movie (filmed in Brisbane, but in the movie, they claim they are in Miami!!)

I started this movie, not knowing what to expect, and boy was the movie good. I actually calling this a Groundhogs Day meets The Shining (Kubrick style)

It's really good. People who like horror should give this a try

Now go watch The House of the Devil. That for me is the best horror movie of 2009, but I'm guessing many people wont like it. It's a real slowburner.

Dead Air (Hong Kong 2009)

Now this is an interesting piece of work.

Acted by mainly unknown (to me anyway)M the only person I recognise is the policeman.

A tv show director had a bad day, drank and drove and crashed into a tree. Gets out of his car and hears a voice calling for help.

He sees a shape of a lady lean by a tree and a baby crying. The lady calls for help again and the guy helps her to deliver her baby (who is already half way out) only to discover the lady is already dead...

Her ghost know haunts the director, who surprisingly ask her to help him create a new tv show!!?

The story is interesting.

Strong first act, second act dipped a little and third act picked up a little.

Very low budget movie, but the actors pushed the movie on.

Worth a watch.

I find the ghost looks rather fake. We had a good laugh over the movie rather than feeling horror with the ghost. Can even see the pimple on the ghost.  blink.gif
*
Er... do they make skincare products for ghost??

Have to ask the people in the incense shop the next time I'm there!! tongue.gif

It is a VERY BUDGETED movie. Effect were.... almost non existence.

I have to admit, the storyline is pretty original (to me anyway)

Very reminiscence of the old 1980s Hong Kong movie (Chow Yun Fatt and Sally Yeh's The Occupant comes to mind). A mix of horror and comedy.

It is NOT as good as The Occupant, but at least it tries to be original (story wise). It is NOT scary, scary per se, but there is a ghost in it!! laugh.gif
