House of Wax (2005) Now, I have to be clear, I am NOT a fan of gory and House of Wax is a gory fest!! There is a highlight in this movie though, Paris Hilton BITES THE DUST!!! If that is NOT a good reason to watch this movie, I don't know what is!!!! (Note to Quickfire in case it wasn't clear, this movie is SO SO) My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Sep 21 2010, 01:13 PM

The Fog (The John Carpenter one!) If u want me to describe this movie in a word, it has to be atmospheric! (No pun intended ) John Carpenter understands the need to built up tension in horror movie. Most young'un would feel that the movie is slow moving and in a sense it is. Low budget, I think I finally understand the difference between Hollywood during it's golden years (ended in the 60s) and the 70s Almost everything that came out before the 70s was lavishly lit (warm) In the 70s the ugly fluorescent lights rear it's ugly glare to movie giving it more of the "natural" urban look. I recommend this more then I recommend the remake (with the Clark Kent guy from Smallville) My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Sep 21 2010, 01:50 PM

QUOTE(xy2610 @ Sep 22 2010, 12:18 AM) Should watch the original, Kairo. Creepy! Nice selection of score to creep you out. This is a 1980 film. Anyway, the 70s is the best decade for horror films, IMO. I haven't been able to get a good copy of Kairo... Correct, The Fog was issued in 1980, which is the last year of the 70s Just like the year 2000 isn't the start of the 21st century but the end of the 20th Century. But didn't stop almost everyone celebrating the year 2000 like there is no 1999!!! This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Sep 22 2010, 09:48 AM

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Sep 22 2010, 09:10 AM) 1980 is 1980 how can it be the 1970s. *Sigh* QUOTE(QuickFire @ Sep 22 2010, 09:10 AM) I watched the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. The centerpiece murders are bloody gruesome and depraved, and they push us to root for the remaining victims all the way through. Rarely have I felt so 100% behind the good guys in a movie. It's hard and maybe wrong for one to say this movie is enjoyable, but it's certainly effective. Agreed

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Sep 22 2010, 11:11 AM) Haha seriously though I think a decade can refer to any period of time with a 10-year span, so 1975 to 1984 is a decade, 2000 to 2009 another decade, etc. There's nothing to say a 'movie decade' cannot be 2000 to 2009 right? And 1980 is in 1980! How is that still in the 70s! Hey I'm 80 years old but no I'm in my seventies! DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! It also does not make sense that we are discussing this. Sigh, there is no such thing as year 0, it started as year 1, therefore 1971 to 1980 is the 70s and 1981 - 1990 is the 80s etc 2001 - 2010 is now known as the lost decade because no on has come up with an "s" for it yet.... You are right, there is no need to discuss this here... (See I agree with you AGAIN!! )

QUOTE(xy2610 @ Sep 22 2010, 08:43 PM) The Hills Have Eyes remake is definitely one of the better remakes. What next! Wes Craven stuff seem to get a lot of remakes. The New The Nightmare on Em Street wasn't bad (I have a review of the said movie somewhere up there) Who know, maybe movie like The Swamp (attacking bees) would rear it's head soon (in case I wasn't clear to Quickfire, I'm be sarcastic!! )

QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Oct 2 2010, 01:10 AM) What do you guys think about The Shining mini series which was released in 90's? Is it good and close to the original? I like it. It is more faithful to the book and it has Rebecca De Mornay in it... What else can u ask for!! This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Oct 8 2010, 11:01 AM

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Oct 13 2010, 12:37 PM) I finally watched The Exorcist (theatrical cut) for the first time last night. It was kinda creepy, and still shocking and repulsive, but ultimately I find it gimmicky. Outside of the obvious shock scenes, there is very little that could be said to constitute a great movie. Sure, I like how the movie tried to portray the lives of priests, and how a mother can be so grief-stricken because of what's going on with her daughter, but all of that comes very secondary to Regan performing obscene acts, which is, to me, entirely what this movie wants to be about. And a great classic movie that does not make. I will call it effective, but I also call quite a few modern gore movies effective, and they sure as hell ain't classic. You have to understand, before The Exorcist, nothing like that was ever made!!?! Also, it is based on a true story, in s sense. In real life, the little girl is a boy and the single mother is actually both parents. The writer of the book heard the boys story from one of the priest who performed the exorcist rite and got permission from the parents to write the story as long as the identity of the family remains of the anonymous... QUOTE(QuickFire @ Oct 13 2010, 01:30 PM) Perhaps nothing like that was made before, but it's still gimmicky. Whether or not it's based on a true story is irrelevant. Didn't a new movie about exorcism come out recently in the US? BURN!!!!!! Am I in HELL!!!!! Yes, The Last Exorcism (2010) Haven't seen it yet though... What does RT say?????

The Child's Eye 3D (2010)
I just got back from the Child's Eye 3D
In a word RUBBISH
It is proabably the biggest NON EVENT produced by H.K./Pang Brothers (you pick)
There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NOTEWORTH about this movie. Extremely BAD casting, Fantastically TERRIBLE story.
For a horror movie, the only scary thing about it is that I plunked down RM19 on it.
Could have spent the same amount of money watching Detective Dee and Red/Taker etc...
I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!!
(*In case you are reading Quickfire, THIS MOVIE SUCKS MAJOR*)

Blade II (2002)Say what you want about Guillermo del Toro, there is always something ORGANIC about his works! Have anyone here watched his Chronos! Blood Brilliant (That's right Quickfire, I LUV that movie ) Having just finished watching Blade II, here are several observations 1) If they manufacture the batteries that Blade use for the solar bombs, everything we use would rely on Solar energy, and we would have the pollution issue licked!! 2) The people who you think are baddies usually end up not so bad. The people that you think are not bad turns up bad (kinda like real life) 3) I wonder if Donnie Yen was behind the action/kung fu choreography for his movie!! My Two Sen

QUOTE(Mikeshashimi @ Nov 25 2010, 08:28 PM) I think ive watched enough movies to actually expect what people usually deemed unexpected. im not boasting. im no movie-buff... but American Horror films really like to use up the same shit for every movie. I can understand why some people dont appreciate the uniqueness of Drag Me To Hell. Coz its really about Sam Raimi coming back with an Evil-Dead like feel to the movie, which I found really good. I heard WolfCreek is pretty good despite the bad reviews but I havent watch it. haha. Modern day (in recent times) horror films (Asian and American and anything else) generally lack any scary elements. Take for instance, Let Me In (albeit a remake), I felt was really poor in terms of a horror movie. What a horror film should be is one that leave the audience with the scare implanted in their minds even after theyve left the cinema. I found 'Tale of Two Sisters (korean)' really creepy. You want REAL horror?? Watched any of The Twilight movies.... Where a young and impressionable girl's ONLY choices are to A) Be with a soulless bloodsucking vampire or B) Be with a flea bitten werewolf..... Option C) Study hard, get good grade make something of herself, is NOT even a consideration!!!!!!!!! SCARY!!!!!!!
