Hi de4thscythell and xy2610
Paranormal Activity (2007) cost $15,000 (estimated) and made $107,917,283 and Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) cost $2,750,000 (estimated) and made $84,749,884 so the return of investment is staggering (percentage wise) It doesn't surprise me they are going for No 3.. The ending of the movie does leave room for expansion, could it possible go the prequel way (to the actual "deal"???) We'll have to wait and see... |

QUOTE(linellux @ Mar 3 2011, 05:13 PM) A few of my best horror movies. Erm... can I inquire, when you say Exorcist do you meanThe Langoliers : A mini tv series that make me scare when I was a little kid. The Exorcist: Scare me too when I was a little kid. Child Play : Only the first series of the movie that scares the shit out of me when I was a kid. Tales From The Crypt: Scares me out when I was kid and I still like to watch it now. Jaws: Scares me when I was a teenager. I was a little phobia of water at that time. LOL Piranha series: Scares me when I was a kid. I am talking about old series not the Piranha 3D. The most scariest movie to me now is Exorcism of Emily Rose and Exorcist: The Beginning. The Descent ranked two for me. Cujo and Pet Sematary ranked third for me BTW, did anyone of you watched a movie about a few people get on a big cruiser when they found the cruiser in the middle of the cruiser and everyone on the cruiser is vanished. They fried the fish they found in the boat's fridge and cook then they started to die and the fish comes out from their stomach. There is a scene where the woman run into bathroom and keep vomiting. Help me find this movie title. thanks!! The Exorcist (1973) or Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) ???? Not many people actually like Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) . . . The Exorcist (1973) broke alot of ground with it "special effects" (eg projectile vomiting and 360 degrees head turn) and also daring story telling Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) was plagued with all sorts of production issue (script keep changing while shooting the movie, until half way through the Director was changed!! [the original director Paul Schrader, put his foot down and Warner decided to replace him with someone Renny Harlin, who would listen to them]). I found the movie EXTREMELY messy. . . Here is the kicker, when the 2004 made nothing at the box office, Warner invited the original director Paul Schrader back to recut the 2004 movie back to his vision called Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005), which was also a lamentable mess... Both didn't do much in term of box office (30 Million to make got 50 Million in return as oppose to Paranormal Activity cost 15K to make and made 100 Million!!!??) The only thing I can applause the 2004 version about is that it actually look gorgeous in HD! Apart from that... I do like Cujo and Pet Sematary as well. Scream 4 (2011)
Scream 4 is a... scream!! The beginning is lots and LOTS of fun (Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell anyone??). It also has Hayden Panettiere and Emma Roberts to boot! Story is both original and yet pay homage to the previous chapters! Neve Campbell reprises her role as Sidney Prescott. David Arquette and Courteney Cox also reprises their roles as troubled couple (interesting how art imitates life) Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers-Riley. Throw about ALL the previous rules and the new ones... Let put it this way, the story is convoluted at some parts and the writer has... interesting take on the Y Generation (or is that the Z Generation, I get confused...) I had a blast! I really did If they didn't make Scream 2 or 3... this would have been a perfect sequel My Two Sen |

The Roommate (2011)
There isn't an ORIGINAL idea. Period! Single White Female with a hint of Basic Instincts?? A forgettable suspense thriller and NOBODY particularly stands out. Nothing and I mean NOTHING unpredictable. I am 1:18 mins into the movie and have been debating with myself whether I should go on or not (put off for another day??) *Sigh* My Two Sen |

Mountains of Madness Guillermo del Toro was to direct with Tom Cruise starring (HP Lovecraft horror) and The Dark Tower, the ultra-ambitious adaptation of the Stephen King 7-novel series that was going to encompass a trilogy of feature films and two limited run TV series are a NO GO.... Damn you Universal, DAMN YOU!!!!! (Too dramatic?? Yes/No??)

Supernatural Season 01 (HD)
Comparing this with the latest season, I have to say, the first season if "spookier"! Maybe it has something to do with watching it is HD for the first time (Season 1) Mc G produces these... interesting and too bad he now has a big head after the so so Terminator Salvation... Hope Season 7 doesn't suck... My Two Sen |

Fright Night (2011)
I luv camp!! I Also love the original Fright Night. What you might NOT know is that the original had a sequel (even I didn't know that until much MUCH later and did managed to see it on Astro, and it SUCKED major... No pun intended) To THIS re-imagination. Let do a list The Good Colin Farrell, never looked better (ironically, playing a vampire...). Very feral (again, not pun intended). Have not seen him for quite sometime! Not, drinking, abusing drugs and womanizing (allegedly) agrees with him. Maybe Charlie Sheen can take a page from Colin Farrell play book... But I digress... Anton Yelchin. Ah, the little urchin has grown up. From the very VERY good Heart of Atlantis opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins, to playing Chekov in Star Trek. He is proving that he can... well, act! Imogen Poots... Pretty! Nuff said!! David Tennant, While watching this movie, I kept going, where have I seen him before, and for the life of me, I couldn't remember. Turned out he was Barty Crouch in one of the Harry Potter! This updated version of Vincent, works!! The premised that this movie happens in Las Vegas. Clever The first act of the movie The Bad Why would you put Toni Collette as Mom and give her SO little to do?? They were some censorship (mainly swear words) and have to add, was kinda acceptable (eg. their did NOT butcher this movie) The second act of the movie The Ugly Edits and pacing people, Edits and pacing. The took the character's of the original of the movie, and retool/updated them for 2011, THE STORY basically REMAINS THE SAME!!! In short, there are sparks of brilliance. Not enough to make movie stand out... A slightly above average movie My Two Sen |

American Horror Story (2011)
Ryan Murphy (of Glee fame) doing horror... I know I know what is the punch line? The punch line is, it is actually interesting!! Where to start... There are alot of inspiration taken from other movies/TV series... (it is like when you watch Glee and they do a mashed up song) Namely, Insidious (atmospheric sound and music), The Shining, Red Rose etc... Some surprising casting Jessica Lange and Dylan McDermott comes to mind. You'll see Dylan McDermott as you have NEVER seen Dylan McDermott before!! All the characters in here have their own quirks and that adds to the "creepiness" to the TV series.... I do want to make two predictions at this point in time » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « After all the hype, I was expecting more. There is enough here to get me back for episode two My two Sen |

Don't you JUST luv holiday in the middle of the week!
I do!! Managed to watch 2 (read that TWO) horror movie yesterday and they are... I'm getting ahead of myself Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) After the first two, I thought this subject matter would be at best slightly above average! Boy am I wrong. First thing first, for viewers of the previous movie, Paranormal Activity is the last movie according to time line, the second prequel to the first and this is prequel to the second!! This movie is made with USD 5,000,000, and it kept me entertained throughout the movie compared to USD 300,000,000 movies (I'm looking at you Transformer 3!!!!) Storyline isn't earth shattering, it is how they present the material (camera work) that is interesting (I shouldn't elaborate, don't want to spoil you fun) The director was able to slowly built up the suspense to the end Some would say that all the paranormal activity movie looks like one another, and I say it is a good thing, because the story keeps expending. Sequels (Prequels) do not usually work because the story does not expend, this one does, and shooting the story in reverse actually adds to the charm Ladies and gentlemen this is a good horror movie. Fans of 1 & 2 will not be let down Horror fans, if you had not had a chance to check out 1 & 2, go check them out and then check this out My Two Sen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010) Two horror movies in ONE day. I cannot remember when was the last time I did that!! Admittedly, the above was done at 11am in the morning and this at 9pm at nite. I had the privilege of watching both these movie in an ALMOST empty cinema, which added to the creepiness!! First of all, this movie is produced by Guillermo del Toro, which means one thing. Spectacular sets. Breathtaking, really. Fans of Guillermo del Toro know that he has a passion for dark fairy tales (down to the toad stool circle and children beware, anyone??), and I DON'T mean the Disney kind. All you have to do is look at his past works and you know what I mean (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, Blade 2 etc) Speaking of Hellboy, one of the bad guys in Hellboy is the agonist here!! I do not want to elaborate so that I do not spoil it for you! For the life of me, while watching this I kept saying I've seen this. I've seen this on TV (many, MANY years back) and true enough this is a remake of the 1973 TV movie!! I've been accuse of being to kind to movie when I preview them and I promise you, you'll probably NOT see a finer horror movie, in 2011 My two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Oct 27 2011, 12:15 PM |
