Hi all.. just want to ask owners of hyundai/inokom santa fe 2.2 Diesel.
Looking to buy one since it fits all my needs (light offroad, 7 seats when i need it, daily drive to work). Looking for a used one (year 2008). Is it a good buy for ~RM80k? Any headache later regarding the engine/gearbox in 4-5 years time? and why on earth wud someone selling it after 4 years of onwership? too high maintenance?

Thanks in advance for the answer.. smile.gif

hi there bro..my contractor use that as project car..am an architect..the bloody santa fe broke down after 5 month use..i think its very manja..firstly the battery..then the gearbox also broke down..cannot use for long journeys i reckon(700km-1000km) interior n the electronics okayla..interior is abit old guy looking...but enjin very manja..i scolded the contractor for being bloody cheapskate and he replace with toyota fortuner now.

my advice: dont buy!! thats why the owner wanna sell after only 4 years and at cheap price...i think the car i use is only around 9month old. hope u havent bought the car yet..lol

Need opinion about choice of 4x4.

I need it for some light offroad (leisure) eg bringing mountain bikes around the country side to cycle only over the weekends. Not venturing into hardcore 4x4 eg. Rainforest Challenge thingy. Maybe will be doing city driving as well if needed (already have existing car). This will only be weekend car, or back up car. I've never have a 4x4 before but I know the running costs of 4x4 will be definitely higher than a car.

My budget would be only about RM30k-40k so second hand will be only choice. Don't care much about resale value, as I just plan to use it until it breaks down so spare parts availability, low maintainence cost and low road tax(eg green engine) would be priority . Good FC would be a plus point.

So far, looked around noted a few choices
1. Isuzu Trooper/Bighorn
2. Land Cruiser II 70series (but looked quite old design)
3. Ford Ranger year circa 2002
4. Isuzu Invader

So far, leaning more towards Bighorn, relatively value for money and modern and some of the off roaders say spare parts also quite easily available. Will Bighorn a good choice? Would like to hear from sifu sifu here.

Thanks.

I see, but then I don't mind putting the bike into the back part of the vehicle, I am sure that the back seats can be folded.

Hi sifu-sifu,

I have fitted a bigger tyre & rims 265/70R16 to my bt-50, and due to the issue that the tyres will rub the fencer inside out, i have lifted the car for 1inch. I realized that lifting the car without a new longer(or extended) absorber or lifted rear leaf springs(with shackles) make my ride much rougher T.T

Any idea wat to do abt it? thanks ...

you can modify it here at the (red circle),ask you 4x4 mechanic to do it for you,ask them you want to lower it.

you must remember ride will rough after doing it,try to get a shorter absorber, and if you are still using 4x4,your front shaft boot kit(green circle)will easily tear.

there is also a modified torsion bar for lowering, lowering will be easier, lower and ride will probably smoother,if you install it.

not changing the nut but turning it,you can lift you ride by turning it up and lower it by lowering it???.changing absorber wont affect your 4x4 height, only when you turn that nut then it will affect the height.
