Hi guys, I'll be getting a cat from my cousin (she's a vet) this Saturday. From what my mum told me, the cat is mixed breed of Persian and local. That's all I know for now.

I am a first time owner and since pets need to taken care of carefully, I want to know as much as possible before getting the cat. I've been reading around but would like to hear some human's advices as well on what should I prepare before this coming Saturday.

Thanks!

Hey all cat lovers! Im actually an all-rounded pet lover, but I have a very special attachment to cats.

Never raised a domestic pet before in my life cause my family are against it (i do want a companion at home  sad.gif ). But I did took care of a few stray (or pariah?) cats around my housing area. My story in spoiler tag if anyone would love to read.

Never raised a dog before but I loved cats. Now I wanted to get a Norwegian Forest Cat when I get my own money. Now I am watching some shows on how to take care of a cat pet. Not learning much yet but Im taking it slowly as I wont be getting one that soon.
*
good work! I myself have taken in a number of strays before, but I don't do it anymore because I've moved to a condo.
I'm a firm believer in adopting from the streets/shelters instead of buying, you'll be surprised at what you can find in shelters... wub.gif but I understand that some people prefer getting pure breeds cz they can choose a cat with certain personalities. as long as you do your homework and purchase from a good BREEDER (not a pet shop!), i'd say good luck! rclxms.gif

How long has this been going on? It sounded like a very bad case of scabies until you mentioned the bite wound.
Tell us where you live and we could suggest some clinics that may be open on the weekend

Hey cat owners. I need some advise.
I have a cat, male, around 3 years old. He is in a bad condition. He is losing fur from his left leg, and up towards his shoulder and then to the neck and face. Not only that the skin seems to be flaky/scabby and very rough. Now it seems that the skin is starting to bleed.

I suspect that this has to do with that snake bite he had when fighting a snake. His left leg is a bit swollen and I can see 2 puncture wounds. He seemed to recover, but I think the venom is starting to eat some of his tissue away. Can't find any info on the net to confirm this though. Poor him. Used to be a muscly fella with a handsome face.  sad.gif  Now he starts to act weirdly. Before this we can leave him in the house at night and he won't make a mess. Now he seems to pee anywhere he pleases.

Is there anything I can give or do to the cat while waiting this weekend to send it to the vet?

Hi guys,

Nice to meet you. I love cats too which is quite funny because I used to hate them (cat poop in the garden on a warm day yuck). Now, I live, breath, love cats:D

Our new kitten (our first one with breed la) will be arriving next week. We have one other cat (a European Shorthair which in other words is the local pariah cat in Europe). My boyfriend adopted her when she was 6 weeks old, she's now 6 years old!

We were not informed before so our cat only got supermarket food but we did some research (before getting the new kitten) and it turns out that our supermarket food is really lousy! So, we started feeding Royal Canin and after the kitten is about 6-8 months old, we'll switch to Orijen. For wet food, we give Carnibest.

So excited about our new kitten:D
*
Royal Canin is quite a good brand but it's not the only one you can choose! I always choose foods that have meat as the first ingredient, even better if its the first 2 ingredients.

Friskies is terrible, but not as bad as Whiskas. The first 2 ingredients in Whiskas aren't even meat. Imagine feeding your cat jagung biscuits for the rest of her/his life vmad.gif

hello,

i have a kitten, ages around 1 1/2 month. I'm thinking to sending her to the vet. May I know, is that kind of age is suitable for vet treatment and what kind of treatment should i ask from vet?
*
you can get vaccinations and deworming. the vet will usually clean her ears and clip her nails for free

the weird thing is, the kitteh got nothing wrong when drinking the milk..just the mother got diarrhea
*
did you get the mother checked at the vet? she could have worms, then 100% guarantee the kittens will also have worms.
so you'll end up with diarrhea waterfall shocking.gif

different cats have different tolerance for milk. some will be fine, some will have diarrhea waterfall brows.gif

Hi!

Nice cats:)

My breeder fed her cats Royal Canin and I am also feeding them Royal Canin too but will be switching to Orijen soon because Royal Canin only has 30% meat and also includes grains. Orijen is 80% meat but it's also like 1.5 times the price:/ But OKla, how much do cats eat anyway, right...

Before that, I fed my first cat Gourmet (Purina). Imagine my shock when I found out that it only contains like 1% fish in the red and brown bits, 1% peas in the green kibble etc. My cat would also puke about twice a week but I thought that was because she had a sensitive stomach. Since I switched their kibble, no puking anymore.

My new kitten(lilac tortie British Shorthair):

actually if there's more meat in the kibble, then u can feed them less. I like Orijen, but out of my budget atm sweat.gif
I also supplement their diet with raw meaty bones (RMB diet) few times a week. I know you're gonna scream at me for feeding raw, but I've done tonnes of research, and my cats have been doing fine on it for months icon_rolleyes.gif

Haha actually raw food is very in here. Have you heard of BARF?

I'm feeding Carnibest (I'm pretty sure they don't sell this in Malaysia. It's a frozen sausage filled with a combo of raw meat, bones etc. and what you have to do is leave it in the fridge for about one hour and then slice it into single portions. Put them back into the freezer and defreeze (by taking a portion out from the freezer and leaving it in the fridge until soft). Then, take it out and feed it when it's at room temp. Thing with all this raw food is that it's more time consuming lor. Like me, I'm bloody lazy. I prefer to just chuck some dry food before going to work haha.

Dunno where but that day I saw this ad from a Malaysian pet shop and per kg, Orijen is same price as Royal Canin!

Don't worry, I'm not one of those sanctimonious pet owners who're like "you feed Whiskas! OMFG you are such a bad owner!":D It's like kids la. Do whatever you want (to a certain point). Can advice but cannot force right. In my case, I also fed those jagung biscuits kind off food 0_0 because I didn't know until I was about to get a new kitten so I did some research. Read the ingredient list of my jagung biskut kibble and was shocked so then I made the decision to do it well this time lah. Especially if I buy the 7kg/10kg pack of Orijen/Royal Canin, it's only double the price of Whiskas
I don't really see much point in BARF, cz of all the veggie and supplements. I find that RMB is more 'natural' makes more sense to me..heck, if I could, I'd be feeding them whole mice sweat.gif
and I totally agree about dry food being more convenient. I'm a student and have to rush to class in the morning, so feeding raw in the morning is almost impossible...cz I have to clean up afterwards, and make sure Nemo doesn't steal Tiger's portion sweat.gif

Where did you see that Orijen ad? I'd love to try Orijen but it's out of my budget sad.gif

i feed my kitteh with chicken breast rebus (microwave) yesterday..is it ok ? coz when i put ciken into their plate, all three will come and lick2 and eat the ciken...very fast...
not same as kibble..2-3 hours still got half left
*
no problem! chicken breast is 100% meat, unlike kibble, so of course very very tasty drool.gif

Regarding the chicken breast, think I read somewhere (I am totally inexperienced with feeding cats homemade food) that it's best to feed cats raw meat (except pork -even if religion is not an issue-, that's a no-no due to parasites etc.).
*
Yes it's best to feed raw if it's a staple, but as a treat cooked is ok.
Cooking n grinding will remove lots of nutrients that cats need, like taurine which will get oxidised. That's why diets like BARF which are grinded have to have supplements added back in. When feeding RMB, I let the meat defrost in the fridge instead of in water so the good stuff says in the meat
I usually divide the meat into portions and store it in plastic deli boxes. It's not as gross as leaving it in the original packaging, and more convenient

that's why I take it as a personal challenge to get them to come to me without food icon_idea.gif

Haha.. Cats are like, "prove it that you're worthy to be my master. Then I'll follow. Try treating me badly and you'll regreat! Miao"  doh.gif

Is Royal Canin a quality cat food? It got recalled for a number of times if I'm not mistaken
*
It's all right, but there are other good brands like Acana, NutriEdge, Blackwoods, Solid Gold, etc. Orijen is really really good but only if you have the budget for it. Always choose food that have meat as the first ingredient (meat, not meat by-product), better if there's no corn. wink.gif

My cat comes when it's called! She's a bit like a dog but she won't sit on your lap for long nor does she like being cuddled. My kitten however, doesn't come when called (don't think she knows her name yet) but I only have to look at her before she starts purring. She doesn't mind it when we carry her and she sleeps with us. Must always have skin contact haha. She wakes me up every morning by purring right at my face and licking me.
*
haha my cats know their names too but sometimes they ignore me sad.gif
the funny thing is, sometimes when I call my cats, the dog comes, and vice versa. cz I always use a certain tone of voice to call their names so they get mixed up tongue.gif
