You are absolutely right. RC is not super premium food as many people think. Evo, Acana, Orijen, Go are the closest food type for cats. Cat food shud not contain grain. But Evo, Acana, Orijen, Go are soooooo damn expensive. I think I'll go bankrupt if I continue to feed them this food. I got 9 cats. They got all the best food in the world and I have to settle for cheap food. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(AXMONZA @ Oct 29 2010, 12:24 PM)
Excuse me, i think you got your facts wrong when you stated Orijen (catfood) contains wild boar meat.
You can check the ingredient list from this link:
http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/products/catki...ngredients.aspx
There are NO wild boar meat included. Most probably you got mixed up with orijen's 'regional red' dogfood which does include pork & wild boar meat.
Anyway, ALL catfood are not 'Halal' for human consumption as the animals used are not slaughter following islamic rites (sembelih etc.). LOL.

Added on October 29, 2010, 12:45 pm

Sorry, but i juz have to give my 2 cents here;

It's commonly prescribed among petfood dietician, vets, etc that catfood categorised as 'super premium' only applies to 'GRAIN-FREE CATFOOD' such as Evo, Acana, Orijen and very few others. RC does have grains included in it's ingredient, so it's NOT considered 'super premium food' but still considered 'premium catfood' like Blackwood, Iams, Science Plan etc but still good for cats.
Juz my 2 cents

Added on November 13, 2010, 11:11 pmI rescued a female kitten in 2008 and she still scare of me and husband. She doesn't like us to hold her and run away if we come close to her. Funny thing is, she will come to us sometimes and asked to be petted. Cats are like human. They choose their own friends, they also like and dislikes other cats. The key word here is PATIENT. Some cats take it easy and can blend within 2 weeks or a month. But some cats takes 1-3 years or maybe more to make friends with us and other cats. So, be patient.

Also, please do not move your kitten here and there at this stage. Cats like routine. They will get stress when their routine get distrupted. You must allow the kitten to settle down and familiar with new surrounding first. I never board my cats anywhere after the first incident. I boarded them at my vet's clinic. The mother cat was very fierce and bite vet's assistant. When I collect them back home after a week, they were confused at home and takes several days before they recognise their own house again.

BTW, all my cats are neuter, male and female. I believe neutering cats/dogs is the best way to control the over population cats/dogs in Malaysia. My cats are all strays I rescued from the street.

Most kittens learn the basic ABC of litter box from their mothers by about 1month old. Its a case of kitten see, kitten do. Kitten who orpaned or separated from their mothers as very early age may be clueless about litter box etiquette or maybe just be a slow learner.

Purchase a small litter box with low side so your short legged kitten can easily climb in and out. Larger litter boxes can be too intimidating for some small kittens. Locate the litter box in a place in your house that is easy to access but not in a noisy high traffic area like kitchen. Gently move her front paws throught the litter to let her feel the texture and use your finger to paw through the clean litter. Then let the kitten explore the litter box and jump out on her/his own. When the kitten poo/pee outside or other places than the litter box, deposit the poo/pee in the litter box and put the kitten inside. Move her/his fronts as how cats bury their poo/pee.

It's very easy. Within 2 or 3 days the kitten will understand where is the right place to poo/pee. I have never met any cats that cannot be toilet train. Not even my strays. They know where to poo/pee. My own cats, always wake me up in the middle of the nite because they want to go to their litter box. They want me to open the bedroom door because they sleep with me in the room. Impressive huh??

But you may want to double check with the person who is going to give this kitten for adoption if the kitten is toilet train.

QUOTE(Mr Ez @ Nov 18 2010, 09:21 PM)
Hi All, I'm contemplating to adopt a kitten, my main concern is their poo, so here are some questions that I have to all the cat lovers here smile.gif

Question 1: what is the best age to toilet train the cat?
Question 2: how difficult it is to toilet train the cat?
Question 3: how long does it take to successfully toilet train the cat?
Question 4: Any cats that you know that can't be toilet trained?

Thanks.

Added on November 18, 2010, 10:32 pmhi!! Tintintin, It was not Klinik Kembiri fault's to the death of the cats/dogs. But the owner's faults. You see, after neuter/spaying, the cats/dogs MUST be confine for at least a week. Don't let them near to water. The incision should not get in touch with water for speedy recovery. But most owner take easy way out and let their pets wondering around. ALL the vets in Klinik Kembiri are professional and certified vet. I have sent at least 100 (or maybe more.I lost count) my own cats, my neighbour's cat and strays (I did my own trap, neuter and release programme around my apartment and office area). None of them die due to neutering. They are all healthy and naughty little furballs. My own cats died due to Feline Leukemia but not died due to spaying in Klinik Kembiri.

On another note, RM200 for male cat is pricey though. In ARA Ampang spaying female cat cost me RM180 only plus 02 nites stay in the clinic. Time for you to change vet.

Hi friendly peeps,

I need some advise and suggestions from many cat owners here. I have posted this in the "vet list" thread but just wondering if anyone here could share their experience with a good vet around KL. Some good reviews seems to be around Subang Jaya/Damansara and it's a little too far for my cats to enjoy...

I was quoted RM 200 (could even be more) to castrate my DLH male cat at Hayward Clinic, eventhough I have frequented his clinic for my other 2 cats sleep.gif

Usually his fees are reasonable, it's in Ampang so I expected it to be somewhat more expensive than other private vet clinics outside KL, but RM 200 for a snip for male kitty? Haiya... Dr Singam (I think that's his name) insist on blood work before castration.

I paid RM 180 (include 3 days 2 nights stay at his clinic to recoup) to neuter my female DSH stray I picked up (after her first on-heat session convinced us to take her to be spayed when she's ok to undergo surgery), thus I was expecting something less than RM180. That's why when he quoted RM200 really put me off a little bit...

I have read mixed reviews of Klinik Kembiri DBKL, eventhough it's uber cheap (RM40 for male) but heard of unfortunate pets that didn't make the surgery... so I'm not willing to go to a conveyor spaying facility for my kitty...

I need some advise from those who knows a good vet clinic recommendation around KL (I stay at Setiawangsa). I'd appreciate that you could share your good experience and the clinic's address & phone number, that would be great. I could call them myself for pricing comparison.

Thanks in advanced.

Added on November 19, 2010, 1:56 pmThis is odd. From what I know, vet will not vaccinate any cats which is still on medication. The cats must be fully healthy and not in medication as the vaccination will make their body immune system low for several days. This is the main reason why cats must be healthy before vet vaccinate them.

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Aug 5 2009, 11:22 AM)
Hello guys  smile.gif

I've just visited the vet few days ago to follow up my Felix's diarrhea condition. This time I was attended by another vet since Dr. S was on another branch. After follow up the checking, the vet told me my Felix was fine, just need to eat his medicine for another week then it'll recover. Then the vet did ask me to vaccinate my Felix and I fully agreed. While examining him after the shot, he found out Felix got flea eggs on his fur and I did notice too before. So I was asked to use Frontline and I did later that night. It's seems fine as he's active & naughty like usual on his 2nd day of shot(recover fast indeed  biggrin.gif ), but as I woke up by him this morning and while I raise him, I saw watery poo stuck on his rear fur. This is the 1st time I see poo like this hmm.gif

1. The dosage of medicine is reduce, will that be the culprit?
2. He's not stress or having fever since he's active and eat well on 2nd day, or still is the vaccine's influence??
3. I put on Frontline and the eggs still stick on his fur. Does it take time to see the results?
4. If this continue for 3 days, will I need to take him to the vet straight away or keep monitor his condition?

I really appreciate your guys help  notworthy.gif

Hi!! Badt, the kitten is scared of the new place, separated from her meowwmy. That is the reason she was meowing all the time. You need to reassured her everything is ok by petting her more often. Gently petting and stroke her. You can put the litter box inside her cage. See if she know how to use or not the litter box. Let her settle down first. The first 2 weeks will be like this. Be patient. Kitten her age is like baby. Always crying looking for their meowmmy. We must play our role as their surrogate parents.

Morning Badzt.

First of all, I must congrats you for being a kind hearted person picking up stray from the street. Not many people are willing to do that. The reason why we see many strays on the street be cats or dogs because pet owner are irresponsible. Therefore it is very important for every pet owner or people to think twice before taking in pets. To have pets is a life long responsiblity. It is like you have children. In your case, I must say situation doesn't look good because you have house mate. They may like cats but maybe they don't have the responsible thoughts as the pet owner. I have heard enough stories on housemate forgot to close the door and their housemate's cat venture out and never return. But all hope are not lost yet. We wouldn't know if we don't try, right?

In your case, maybe the kitten doesn't know how to use the litter box because normally kitten follow what their meowmmy does. Kitten see kitten do. You have to teach her how to use the litter box. She's not peeing yet?? If she did, you can wipe her pee with tissue and put it inside the litter box. When she sniff her own pee, she will know that is her place to pee.

2ndly, you said you want to block her?? Where do you keep her? In your room or at living hall?? Kitten at the age are very curious and they won't stop venture to each corner of your house. Let her. If you are working, keep her in your room to limit her movement and also to prevent her from any injury. Normally this is meommy's job to prevent their kitties from any injury. When you are back home. Play with her, pet and hug her. Let her jalan jalan all over your house.

Guffy is such a cutie biggrin.gif She looks like my Slyvester.

Ok, good to hear that she will have better and bigger house after this. I think to stop her from walking around is almost imposibble. What you can do is remove anyhing dangerous within her reach. She can't climb so high yet so put everything poisnous, dangerous inside your cabinet or higher places.

You can wipe her pee with tissue and roll it into ball like. Put it in the sand, move her paw like what cat normally do when they bury their waste. But you must allow Guffy to sniff it first. I did that to my kitten when I found them crawling outside my apartment with their meowmmy. It seems that somebody throw meowmmy cat and her kittens out from their house.

QUOTE(badtzcarol @ Nov 23 2010, 10:43 AM)
Thank Listiani

yaya..i'm worry my housemate too
but until now they are ok with her
when i go work i keep her in cage in other empty room, but the room is messy , so i keep her in cage

before and after i work, i will let her come out and walk around in my room

i planned to block all wire or toxic things in my room since i can't stop her explore

i'll move out from this house soon, so next time she can stay at living room, bigger area for her biggrin.gif

she are peeing, i put some newspaper with her pee in the litter box, when i wanna teach her how to cover her pee with sand, she juz wanna go out and play =.=

Oh!! Boy!! Kittens without mother is disaster!! Most of them will not survive because they are too young. But you can try to care for them. Keep the kittens warm all the time. Use warm water keep in the bottle and wrap with towel. Put it inside the box where the kitten sleep. When you feed them with milk replacement, you must feed them with their all paws down. Feeding must be done every 3 or 4 hours. Do you see how meowmy cat nurse their cats?? All 4 paws down. Dont feed the kitten like how we feed our human baby. This is because if you feed them like human baby, the milk will spill to their lung instead and they will die because of suffocated.

Dont' give them fresh human milk. Go to petshop and get pet replacement milk. Can't remember how much. Probably RM20-RM25 per tin. Cow milk will cause the kitten diarhea.

QUOTE(dragonmage13 @ Nov 23 2010, 12:48 PM)

I just found 2 kitten in the box by the empty shop lot last sunday. Brought it home and the eye just open.

Can someone tell me how to take care of this kitten? Currently i feed them with fresh milk bought from Carrefour and when they full they will stop meowing.

Whoever throw them without meowmmy is curse forever vmad.gif

Yeah, nite time also you need to feed. Once every 3-4 hours. They can't walk coz they are still too young. You must keep them safe and warm by putting them in the box. Normally meowmmy cat will keep them warm. You can see how meowwmy cat keep her kitties around her. Beside nursing, she keep her kittens warm otherwise they will die.

They have lost their meowmmy. You have to play role as their meowmmy.

QUOTE(dragonmage13 @ Nov 23 2010, 01:01 PM)

Thank you for the information on the milk. After feeding with cow milk the poo is still normal, will change the milk tommorow.

About the feeding of milk every 3-4 hours. How about night? The kitten can barely walk. (leg shivering while walking)

Congrats!! Congrats!! Finally, huh?? Have not poo yet?? Maybe u shud bring her to the vet. If she's eating as usual, she shud poo as well.

For kitten, you can feed them as many as they want because like children, they are in the process of growing up. Need all the nutrition. Just make sure the food you feed her is kitten formulated especially the kibbles/biscuits. She must be very hungry because roaming around in the rain.

should i add on for her?

Newborn until 1 mth plus yrs old kittens eyes always blue. When the grow up, their eye colour will change. Some will remain blue or green/blue. Siamese cat normally have blue eyes.

I have a question regarding cat eye color.

My friend said that cat with blue eye sometime is blind and both my newly found kitten are blue eyes.

Anyone can confirm this?

Guffy such a pretty girl!!! Finally she poo poo already. rclxms.gif For now you don;t to worry about her health. Fatten her up and give her enough love and care. She will grow become a beautiful and sexy hot cat biggrin.gif

Now, the next step is to vaccinate her when the time is up. Wait for another 2 or 3 weeks before you send her for fist vaccination and deworming.

Rice is a big no no!!! No grain for cats. Cats need protein.

The reason we not recommend u to feed with wet food for long time is because of cost. Wet food is costly and for busy people it is inconvenience to cook the food everyday. Kibbles is the best alternative. But, if you have only 2 or 3 cats, u can always give them wet food. Serve kibbles is like 4-5 times per week. As Merojak said, ayam rebus is also best option. Boil the chicken with water without salt. Then you cut the chicken in smal pieces before serve to your cat.

Added on November 25, 2010, 7:49 pmYou mean, feed her the deworm medication twice a day?? Deworm normally given every 3 mths or every 6 mths. No need to give every day.

I know how do you feel reading from the internet without knowing the facts are accurate or not. Don't worry, you have every right to feel that way. The only thing that worry me is about why the vet asked u to give the deworm medication every day. U shud dbl chk with the vet again.

Cutiepie69 is right. Stomach because eating too much is ok but big and round with worm is worrying biggrin.gif

I just don't understand why vet always said it is dangerous to spay on heat cat. With the latest technology, there's no such thing. The only reason why vet reluctant to spay on heat cat because their blood vein is bloated. If the vet really a vet, they can spay the cat. No such thing as dangerous. I have many times sending on heat catfor spaying and none of them died during operation.

The best way is to spay her. Pls do not add already over population cats in Malaysia. Most of the cats end up on the street become stray. I'vet met 1 abang in govt clinic said he has around 40 cats and don't believe in spaying his cats. But after sometimes he can't manage anymore and dump most of his cats in the market. He was in the clinic to neuter his cats. Don't u think his action is irresponsible?? How convenient, dump the cats when things out of control.
