Brands would certainly promote good things about their products. Its up to the smart consumer to choose wisely.

Price differences are because of 2 things imo :
1) Over advertising
2) Extra ingredients in the supplement

No.1 is what you would want to look out for. Brands that sell their product at higher prices just because they have to pay endorsements to their fleet of pro athletes may have the same nutritional values as another that has less to pay for advertising. The next time you read an article, or a pro athlete commenting or recommending a product, check to see if they are endorsed by any of the supplement companies.(you'd be surprised how many actually are)

No.2 is the value for money bit. Yes, some brands cost more because they actually have MORE in it. For example, BSN's Synthia costs almost twice as much as Optimum Nutrition. But check the in depth nutrition info. BSN's Synthia has more amino acid blend content compared to ON and other added ingredients.

At the end of the day, weigh your goals and budget. Then see which works would suite you best

ON will give you bigger biceps
Muscletech a bigger pen!s
BSN bigger triceps

Ok, seriously. Protein is protein. Supplements are supplements. Food > supplements. 2 chicken breasts and rice per meal beats ANY protein shake no matter how high tech ANYTIME. We take supplements for convenience's sake. I've now replace all my supplements with real food and I'm pushing weights I've never pushed before and experiencing better growth than I was on protein shakes.

As i said again, protein is protein, the brand doesn't really make a difference. But your best bet would be ON Whey.

How about Pro Complex? Will it give me a 3-inch girth pole?

I made a pretty rough calculation about the price/gram of protein between ON whey and Pro Complex. They seem pretty similar -- not sufficiently divergent to prefer one or the other due to price. And Pro Complex is time released: it has whey hydrolysates, whey and egg albumin for both very fast, fast and somewhat fast absorbtion. It also is something of a multivitamin, a great boon for us who can't swallow those ridiculously large and rough tablets.

girth? like penis girth??? LOL

Yeah, like I said different products have different amino acid blends.

BSN Synthia also has a mix of whey, egg albumin..etc for timed release. Again, when are you consuming these protein supplement? If its early in the morning or post workout, you would want to go for pure whey isolates instead of a blend simply because your body would need a quick supply at those times.
Also, if you go for standard whey protein, you could easy get the 'timed release' effect by using milk to make your shake instead of water. Peanut butter would be a good add too.

PRO Complex and such proteins that offer timed release are better taken at night before you go to bed so that you have a steady release of protein throughout the night.

Nah, I meant the gear stick in my car. I just measured it -- it's way larger than 3 inches in circumference BTW.

Casein is what you drink before bed. Whey hydrolysates are absorbed in about 15 minutes, while whey takes much longer.

I don't rely on protein shake too much. That's why I only take it for post workout and only 1 1/2 scoop at most.

I think I have about 200gram of protein daily including protein shake. I think so.

10 egg whites = 50g
2 chicken breast = 100g
1 protein shake = 40g
Milk = 15g

Yea, about there.

I think most of the guys in the gym have protein shake for pre and post workout, afterthat they eat crap food at mamak or kopitiam. That is the reason why they are still not growing. Relying on protein shake only. And each serving they put in 3 scoops of whey, wasting.

Yes, of course casein would be the better choice for slow release protein. I am comparing normal whey powders to blend powders. Since the pro complex you were referring too has timed released proteins, it can also be used pre-bed.

But seriously, protein is just protein at the end of the day. Stick to normal whey and spend on real food.

Protein may just be protein, but not all protein shakes are the same! I forgot to mention that Pro Complex also has lactase and other digestive enzymes, so when you mix it with milk it makes for a very digestible shake. I really can feel the difference in my stomach.

While we're on the topic of milk: Dutch Lady Fresh Milk is way better than Dutch Lady Full Cream Milk. I can easily drink 2 liters of the former; it tastes better and is easier to digest. A bit more expensive though.

Mmm, if I'm not mistaken most of these companies source their protein (whey) from a supplier. ON and GNC have the same supplier. I know what you're thinking "BUT THE NUTRITIONAL CONTENT IS DIFFERENT"

There's a discussion out there on why this is so. Small differences in nutritional content could be a result of 'repackaging'. In essence, you are just buying the same thing.

I'm currently taking the Dutch Lady Low Fat milk, but is not the fresh type. Wanna cut cost a bit. Been taking Marigold HL Milk for the past 5 months (4 packets weekly) until my pocket really koyak.

not all food in mamak are crap. I eat Tandoori chicken (breast part) and chapati. Those are the best food you can buy at mamak.

Damn... you talkin like everyone's a noob and your diet is in perfect order. I've seen your journal. You need to take a chill pill before criticizing everyone at the mamak.

What's wrong with 3 scoops of whey? A lot of the elite huge guys at bb.com take 3 scoops PWO because they need to extra protein.

Btw, i notice that everytime I counter your posts, you avoid replying. Why's that? Koyak orgasm? whistling.gif
