PLEASE PLEASE get a translated english copy for your driving license!!!

I showed them the Malaysian driving licence and they don't allow it. Apparently they are stricter now due to some police regulation.

I'm forced to stay in the airport for 5hours just to wait for the translation to be done online and send back to the company.. =.=

which company?

I rented with Jucy, mine was in English but the 2nd driver's license was not but we had not issue. Documents all clear within 10 minutes.

On Jetstar, although budget but still it is good enough for me. Seat is roomy (i am 170+cm tall and no my knee does not touch the seat in front or is anywhere near to it. If you opt for starter ticket which does not come with meal no worries on outside food. They will happily fill up your instant noodle cup with hot water. I even asked for their forks and no question was asked.

Only downside was on the way back the plane was the older ones where there is no screen. From SIN - AKL the flight had individual screen on and even a USB which allow me to charge my own device. Anyway for the price i've paid i simply cannot complaint.

Please do comment and help on the itinerary.

Day 1(Thursday)
Christchurch - Lake Tekapo
Day 2(Friday)
Lake Tekapo - Wanaka - Queenstown
Day 3(Saturday)
Queenstown - Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown
Day 4(Sunday)
Queenstown - Arrowtown - Queenstown
Day 5(Monday)
Queenstown - Glenorchy - Queenstown
Day 6(Tuesday)
Queenstown - Melbourne

As it just gonna be a short trip, so I prefer something more relax and less driving hours. Anything I can add or change on the locations?
Do I need to book advance for the Milford and Glenorchy cruise tour? Any recommendations on the company? Thank you!

on day 3

suggest you stay at te anau instead of driving from QT to te anau to Milford as it is not near

somemore afternoon is more crowded with all the tourist bus there

i'm back

thanks to the members that comment and suggested in this thread and my itinerary

just one thing to add since i didnt recall reading it here and had a shock when driving at NZ

they have a lot of one way bridges and only 1 way car can pass at one time

the sign may not have written one way but will just have red and black arrow indicating who has the right of way

took me few bridges to grasp it

maybe im slow hahhahaha doh.gif doh.gif

Yea.. But I find it easier to stay in the same hotel instead of packing and change back to queenstown after that.. Haha
Anyway I'm done for that day.. Took me 5hrs to drive thr stopping at te anau for subway breakfast, grocery shopping and some photo taking..
Then it took me another 3.5hrs speeding all the way back.. So to anyone who is not keen on driving, I do suggest follow a tour or overnight in te anau..

Try earlier cruise i.e. depart earlier else yes you will be joint by thousand who come by tourist bus.

We departed QT around 6.30AM, had a 30 mins stop at Te Anau for breakfast & fuel and only arrived at 11AM so ya its about 4+ hours following speed limit. There is this huge tunnel which is only 1 way so we spent a good 15 minutes waiting and spent that 15 minutes looking at snow dropping down from the hill beside!

Note that different timing also have different price, example Jucy pricing for 9AM cruise is NZD50 while 11AM would be NZD75!!

Please grab the magazines you see when you arrive at NZ.

1. Fuel discount card - saves you a few cents per L pumping at BP and Caltex
2. Discount vouchers!! We went with Jucy for Milford Sound it offer 50% off for every 2nd pax (So effectively around 25% discount off)

i will be going there next week (CHC and QT), so can i assume i dont have to pre-book the Milford cruise, since you suggested to use the vouchers from the magazines ?

I will be staying overnight @ Te Anau, then travel the next day to Milford Sound. so how long does it take to MS form Te Anau from your experience ?

Almost all the tours has office in Queenstown, i booked 11.15AM tour on the evening before at Jucy office in QT (Queenstown is a little different from other part of NZ where shop close from 8PM onwards)

There is risk that you don't book online that the tour might be full, i take no responsibility on this. Want cheap sure must take risk tongue.gif

Te Anau to Milford Sound allow 1.5 hours travel time (Distance is 100+ KM but like i mentioned there are path where traffic get real slow or even standstill)

Hey guys. Im considering a trip to new zealand but i would like to find out more on the cost it would incur onto me.

I plan to travel north and south. Back-packing throughout.

Most likely will be something like 7d6n type of trip without tour group. Will do the toue by myself.

Anyone have experience? Mind sharing with me your expenses and costs?

Cheers!

Have you done a search?

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&hl=new+zealand

7 days better just do south only. Not enough to do both islands.

7 days is barely enough for south alone, taking out the day you come in and out from NZ only left 5 days.

Best scenery route;
1. Picton - Kaikoura - curving road along the coastal, simply amazing
2. Milford Sound - before entering the 1 lane tunnel, can see snow falling down from the hill drool.gif
