So must pack my time very tight too hehe.. I wonder how is the night life in CHC or QT? Since the night is longer, any activities suggest? And also will go Akaroa for dolphin and penguin seeing.. good? Added on September 30, 2011, 11:47 amAnybody know the car rental price from Queenstown to Christchurch? I planned to fly Jetstar from CHC to Queenstowns on 22/July and back to CHC on 25 or 26/July. 1) Can i just buy packages (like skii) when i arrive Queenstown? 2) Can sifus intro me which accomodation to stay in CHC and Queenstown? my budget around NZD100-150 per nite. Thanks!! |

QUOTE(youngman28 @ Mar 30 2012, 09:39 AM) Me take same flight as you, after check out shall be 12am, wonder you spent the night in airport or get a taxi to hotel in CHC?, and also known that the Youth Hotel in CHC was close due to e/q, any reliable and budget hotel to share? I also same situation with you haha. Added on March 30, 2012, 9:53 am My one booking during zero fare (AAX) haft year ago, RM820+ included meal and 20 kg luggage/person, but the timing was too bad, arrival on 11:00pm, departure fr CHC 12:10am. Now i'm looking for lodge which can let me take a nap and bath, then early morning 8am will walk around CHC and 2.45PM take Jetstar to Queenstown. Need sifus recommendation, which lodge do provide us such short period of stay with cheapest rate. I have asked few motel, they provide full day rate which is NZD150-200 |

Beware that if you are driving, especially during winter, because of day short night long, u will need to catch the time to reach ur location before sun drop at around 530-6PM, or else u need to give 200% concentration on driving in extremely dark and quiet road
Personally feel that staying at mt cook for a day will do, or can choose to stay at Lake Tekapo is great choice too. *Mt Cook is boring I suggest at least stay at QT for 4 nights, even 5 or 6 nights if want to visit Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound, and LOTR. *Must buy Helicopter Scenic Package! Awesome CHC is a town, with no scenic viewing like in QT. Driving around QT is superb, u will always stop aside and shot until camera smoked haha There is a Public Toilet in QT was very interesting for me, lol, the toilet will automatically unlocked if you use more than 10min (if not mistaken) haha (google map -45.037433,168.649153) Tired of writing now.. to be continue.. |

QUOTE(wufei @ May 28 2012, 01:48 PM) I think Mt Cook to Tekapo needs 2 hours. I would not say Mt Cook is boring. There are many walking trails to explore. Other than that the scenery is magnificent. CHC got a shop selling Bread and Cheese, it is so delicious Wake up early and get a glance at the first light shine on Mt Cook. Tekapo, should not miss this place. Its a paradise for stargazer. I never seen so many stars. The only comparable is the night scene from mt Kinabalu. CHC nothing much. Dont waste time there. The stars at Akaroa is also superb, i first time "so near" to the space, i still can see some white color wave around the stars.. QUOTE(yiyibrowers @ May 28 2012, 02:52 PM) I had tried it before that I back from Milford Sound to QT and that time was 5.45pm because the Milford Sound boat missed the group of 12ppls.... Some more my car run out of petrol... All surrounding are dark and we need speed and see the burning alert at Medium... Run out of petrol? oh yeah, me too when i was at Mt Cook, forget to pump petrol, luckily Lake Tekapo is not far away I like Milford Sound, actually not the place, but is the experience from QT to MS, i can see alot of wonderful scenic on the way to MS, stop over Mirrow Lake, and few stops before and after the tunnel, snow mountain is just stand beside u, drink the water from the mountain, fantastic experience! The dolphins and seal from MS, personally feel that Akaroa one is more beauty. I started to love NZ after i come back to Msia.. |

QUOTE(santana @ Jun 19 2012, 05:35 PM) I am planning to travel North Island in December and I suppose it will be in Summer, will it be much more expensive compare to other time of the year ? I have no idea traveling to North Island. I do traveled to South Island back to last May. Rented a Nissan from APEX for 6 days and the car condition was excellent. It cost me around RM1000 including the GPS and Insurance.Any recommended place to stay(cheap n comfy) and also name of car rental company. Thank you. |

For me, Queenstown is definitely worth to stay 3-5 days. Rent a car with GPS, go anywhere you like. For e.g. Arrowtown, you will bypass some wine making shop, do stop there to test their wine and cheese. After that from Arrowtown drive to Coronet Peak, about 30min distance, drive to the top hill and enjoy the best view!

QUOTE(bearbear @ Dec 10 2013, 10:50 PM) 7 days is barely enough for south alone, taking out the day you come in and out from NZ only left 5 days. Did you try the snow dissolved water come from the hill? Best scenery route; 1. Picton - Kaikoura - curving road along the coastal, simply amazing 2. Milford Sound - before entering the 1 lane tunnel, can see snow falling down from the hill |

QUOTE(Angelpoli @ Jun 28 2014, 06:30 PM) hi everyone. i'm going to north island for 7 days/6 nights and south island for 9 days. due to the short 7 days at north island, do you think still worth to skip some place and visit the bay of island or just skip the bay of island? thank you. If you are going on winter season. please take it in consideration, because it is day short night long, it turned dark usually on 530PM-6PM NZ time. my plan is: 1st day: auckland airport to paihia 2nd day: paihia to the cape lighthouse and 90th mile beach 3rd day and 4th day: down to auckland city and go to hamilton at the 4th day evening 4th day: hamilton and go to lake taupo at 5th day evening 5th day: lake taupo 6th day: wellington 7th day: early morning flight to north island Anyone think this is a do-able itinerary or it's better to cancel the bay of island trip and maybe add in napier and hasting to replace it. besides, do you think the day i allocated is enough to visit the main attraction at those place? thank you. |

QUOTE(munkeyflo @ Jul 16 2014, 11:35 AM) Yea, very super duper cheap, can never get that rate again I still remember mine was RM1200 for 2 pax. That time i really pissed because AAX going to axe the route. Luckily i choose to travel earlier with given options and no regret with it Another time paid about 1.8k for AAX KL-CHC for last minute booking. Still cheap compared to what we can get with MAS. |

QUOTE(wjchay @ Jul 16 2014, 11:36 AM) Hi people, I will be in CHC mid Dec this year with a 9 year old. I have been scouting for accommodation but find that YMCA is the best in terms of location and pricing. However, there's only communal kitchen, which can be very crowded dinner time. Hey, sorry i cannot answer all your questions.. Motels are about NZD150-190 self contained, within my budget, but locations are out. I am not driving. My questions are: 1. What time do the smaller cafes, eateries, takeaways close? 2. Are there any good takeaways close to YMCA? 3. Any other good motels within the CBD? 4. Which telco package is best if I just use data only around the south island, mainly for map? Thanks in advance. 1. I visited CHC during May, they usually open on about 9/10am. Maybe not all of them.. 2. 3. 4. I do considered to buy a telco package during arrival, but at the end i decided not to take it. I rented a car, it is below NZD30 per day, with GPS. Quite convenient actually, the GPS didn't bring me to the wrong place. As for internet, i use the wifi provided by the hotel for free (usage about 15-30min), or any coffee shop will do. |
