4pm arrival , and 6pm moving out. i highly doubt it that u would be able to catch the flight, especially if you have baggage.

Yea man. Sometimes just queueing also 1 hour edi lol.

No baggage also have to hope that there's no queue at he customs. Quite a few times I've seen travelers asking if they can cut the queue or some having to make calls to reschedule their flights.

Talking about oysters.

If you're in Auckland city and love oysters, you can head to Oyster & Chop at the viaduct there for happy hour from 4-7pm daily. $2 per oyster depends on what oysters they have for that day biggrin.gif

So did business and and investment migration. I was told business migration is $3mil now. Used to be $1mil years back.
But there are many types of visas, those interested should check all options. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(timetokill @ May 22 2017, 12:25 AM)
I think many people make this mistake that they didn't allow for time to clear customs before checking in to connecting flights. The key is always check where you need to do this before hand and allow more time.
Honestly, it is so much better nowadays. Sometimes I got through with just 15 minutes. Sometimes you are just unlucky that a huge plane just landed before you. Not so long ago, they used to check everyone who arrives. Now not so much. Australia was much worst too just few years ago, until people made noise and they changed to just get the dogs to sniff at your luggage now.
Please use the search function. I have talked about this before. All rental cars are covered with comprehensive insurance. Understand what is insurance and what excess means, then you will know whether you need it. I have never taken them, but I am a risk taker. So it depends on your risk appetite.
NZ is like a migrant heaven, provided that you have the right skills. It is much easier if you are a professional, ie. engineer, accountant, doctor, IT architect, etc. Auckland has the most opportunities but also the most competitive and maybe the most expensive to live in. Wellington and Christchurch have plenty of opportunities too, because less people want to live there, so more chances for you.
It is not all green patches there. One big issue there is housing. House prices have gone up so much in the recent years that most working class can only afford to rent. Don't think that you earn more so you can afford. Look at the rental rates. You won't have much savings left after you pay for rental. On top of that you still need to save for minimum 20% downpayment. People can only afford a house when they retire.
*
Australia I find much lenient these days.
15 minutes thru the customs - very lucky haha. The queue at the customs always frustrating. Somemore free wifi only lasts 30 minutes. And yes these days also much better. They used to open everyone's bag especially when there's food but nowadays mostly just ask to scan thru. My last flight to Auckland I had 3 big boxes and 1 big bag with me, had food too and expected them to open up my boxes but was lucky the custom just told me to scan.

Right. Rental in Auckland CBD for 2 rooms unit can be $600-700 per week. Food is expensive too. And the population in Auckland increasing every day.

Is it necessary to buy luggage when I'm going to New Zealand?

It depends on how you travel. Everyone travels differently. its not a must to buy luggage.

Thanks bro for the tips. I'm considering either NZ or Australia to migrate. I was a manager (junior level) in one of MNC in KL & looking forward if there's any opportunity to migrate in either these 2 countries.
*
Whether you manager or executive or what, don't expect to get a similar position job in nz when you go over. Most companies will tell you "no local experience". So just be prepared for that and to start all over again from bottom.

Hi guys,

AA got free seat promo now and me & hubby plan to go next year May (autumn). Estimated 10 days only.
Just checked the fare is about 1200 per person return. Is it considered cheap?

Honestly I didn't do any research about NZ yet so my knowledge about nz is not good.

Initial plan is arrive in Auckland - domestic flight to South Island - stay few nights & rent car explore Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Mount Cook, lake Tekapo - fly back to Auckland & go Hobbiton - fly back to KL.

Main purpose to stay in Auckland is for Hobbiton only and the rest of the holiday is focus on South Island. Is it too ambitious or still can be done?
*
RM1200 return per person is a very good deal. The cheapest I've been able to get was slightly below RM1000 but that's excluding luggage and all. Just for comparison, MAS is usually RM3-4000, cheapest also will be around RM2300+ on promo promo.

Your itinerary is pretty standard. Not too ambitious for 10 days, maybe just nice. Autumn is a beautiful time to be in South Island, definitely spend a day at Arrowtown for the autumn trees, you can do a day trip to Arrowtown from Queenstown.

QUOTE(Cloud2322 @ Jun 6 2017, 09:42 AM)
I'm there for 14 days. Not covering South Island..

My plan is 1 week in Auckland, travel around rotorua, taupo, tongariro, wellington then back to Auckland and balik..

I'm wondering is there anything to do in Wellington.. haha I know there's a lot of beaches nearby, but it's winter now.. zz
*
Go up north maybe? Cape Reinga and stuffs.

Is traveling South Island more expensive than north island?

Hi guys, my hubby and I are going for our honeymoon towards the end of Oct...i've checked on the web and it says that the average max temperatures are between 14-18 degree celsius.. How accurate is this and will it rain much in October?

Depends where you're headed to in NZ as well. Auckland will definitely be warmer than say, invercargill. Be prepared for rain, always. And bring sunblock and sunglasses.

Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be going to NZ from Jan 7 to Jan 16. Since we do not have much days, we have decided to just focus on South Island.

We are very new in this so would like some expert inputs from people here. We would like to rent campervan as well. Is it better to fly to CHC or Queenstown? And what can we do in such a short period of time?

Thank you for your help.
*
You have about 10 days, does this include traveling time from Auckland to SI? You have to consider your flights in and out of nz. Transit time and all.

You can do quite a bit if you have full 10 days in SI. Check the previous posts on this thread for some rough ideas on itinerary. It's pretty standard and you should have no problem coming out with a road trip plan.

Flying into queenstown would be ideal. Most people fly into CHC then do a round trip down to Queenstown and back up to CHC to return the car/campervan and fly off.

Yea you do not have much time to travel around SI.

Yes, you can do that - return the campervan at a different town - however, this usually means more money. So you might want to factor your budget in when planning for this trip as well.

Hi there. If I am arriving in Auckland at 425pm, and leaving Auckland to CHC at 820am next morning. Is there anything that I can do at all? Is Devonport still possible? It is better for me to stay in hotel near Auckland Airport as well right?
*
Not exactly. Airport is in the south of Auckland, Devonport is in the north of Auckland. You have to be at the airport at 6.30am in the morning. So definitely no exploring before that.

You'll arrive 4.25pm, but customs and immigration will take another 1-1.5 hours or so. By the time you are out, the sky would be dark already (if you are arriving these few days). If you are arriving in the summer months, the sky will still be bright, but it'll take a long time for you to travel directly from airport to Devonport, peak hours traffic is very bad here you know. If it's dark, there's no point going to Devonport.

I guess what you can do is, check in at a hotel nearby the airport and then find your way to Auckland CBD for dinner. There's not much in city at night as most shops will be close by 6pm but you can have a look at how the city looks like, find some nice place to spend money on food and drinks. Then uber your way back to hotel to rest for the night. But if I were you, I would just stay nearby airport and rest. 12 hour flight no joke for me. laugh.gif

When I went in June, friend picked me up in the airport. Told her to just send my rugby tickets and leave me at the airport but her and her husband insisted on me getting some rest at their place in Devonport. So the MAS flight got in around 11pm and by the time I cleared the immigration and all, it was 12+. Slept for a few hours at their place and left Devonport around 530 am for my 7 am flight to Dunedin. Haha.

*
Haha. Well at least you "ride pass" the city lol.
Anyways, in the middle of the night and morning, the traffic ain't bad. Airasia arrival timing is 4pm, and Sept onwards is 5pm with the time change. Ugh, the traffic gonna be bad bad bad.

AirAsia only can get below RM2k return. Cheapest on promo is about RM1k return. This is without adding in any extra add ons.

As comparison, MAS is usually around RM3-4K return and on promo you can get RM2k+ return. There's also Emirates where you can get RM2-4K return, but the transit time in Melbourne isn't always ideal.

Basically, AirAsia for RM1.8k is pretty normal price for AA. But still a steal to this part of the world.

While I was looking for flights to go in June, Found flights to AKL via China Southern for around 1.9 to 2k. Since China SOuthern is full fledged, meal and baggage is included. Of course there was a layover in Shanghai which I initially thought I could do a day trip to Disneyland, But since I was trying to save my leave, I just redeemed my points for MAS. So China SOuthern is another option if you're not rushing.
*
That would be one hella long traveling time lol. How long is the flight from shanghai to auckland? If up to me, I'd rather just go with AirAsia and get hot seat and meals. laugh.gif

To those who taking AA flight to Auckland after End of October, just realised the departure time has postponed , so do the arrival time has postponed to 5:55pm.
So I think it's risky to book Auckland to CHC now if there's any further delay on flight time 🙁
[attachmentid=9080727][attachmentid=9080727]
*
Don't think the departure time has changed, it's still 11.55pm. It's just daylight saving starting end September and hence everything moves forward one hour. E.g. KL and nz time diff is now 4 hours but come daylight saving it'll be 5 hours, until 1st April 2018.

Departure and arrival time for flights will always be in local time. Looks like it may mess up some flight timings for those flying with AirAsia.

thanks for the input, indeed I am renting on 1way for the campervan and return it at Queenstown.
I am adding in Glenorchy (generally people spend how long at there)
If I want to add in Milford sound, please suggest me a place to stay in Te ANau or Milford sound.
Probably I will slot into day 06 .. oct habe daylight until 7.30PM right ?

Day05: Wanaka – Cromwell PYO – Wineries – Kawarau Bridge Bungy - Arrowtown (overnight)
Day06: Arrowtown – Glenorchy  – Te Anau/Milford sound (overnight)
Day07: Milford SOund  - Queenstown (overnight)

Glenorchy was only a few hours for me, as the weather wasn't very good when I was there either. It's basically just beautiful sceneries. If you are an avid photographer then maybe you'll find yourself spending more time there.

Petrol is about $2 per litre. You can check the prices here https://gaspy.nz/
Also, certain supermarkets will give you discount for pumping at certain petrol stations. E.g. Pak n Save at their petrol station. Countdown affiliates with certain petrol stations too. And if you have an AA card (can't remember how tourists can get one, have to search the thread for it), it gives you 6cents off at BP and Caltex too.

Hi guys

Any suggestion for hiking like national park around Oct
Area nearby Auckland or less than 3 hours drive
Which i can cover within 4 hours (attraction spot)
Not necessarily to complete the course
Which does not need a guide (clear signage along the track)
No fees required (minimal fee is still tolerable)
With safe parking spot

Thanks

There are tons of walking trails in Auckland, like every corner of NZ. Believe the Waitakere range should be suitable for you. It's less than an hour drive away from
Auckland. There are many tramping trails around, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, etc. All of them free. Most of them have public toilets available. You can visit those world famous west coast beaches at the same time.
http://regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/waitakereranges

Otherwise you can find another suitable walk around Auckland on the council website:
http://regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt....ur%20or%20more)

I also like the Blue Springs Te Waihou walkway. But it's at least 2 hours drive away from Auckland. Beautiful walk and can swim in the spring water if the weather is good.

Edit: Oh and it's mating season for the gannets colony at Muriwai beach, sept and October if not mistaken. Was there yesterday and there were quite a number of gannets. Short easy walk to the birds area and a whole stretch of beach to stroll along. Attached pic laugh.gif
