I have found studies indicated that drinking more than 7 cups of coffee per day can lower type 2 diabetes by 0.5 times compared with less than 2 cups per day. I have to admit their findings shocked me initially, especially when they couldn't provide the exact reason for it. Even so, you have to take other factors into consideration, for example family heredity of diabetes and etc.
Actually I think drinking coffee is quite bad for diabetics because it makes the pancreas work very hard- no matter what the studies say. We ourselves know the effect of it. My maternal grandma got diabetes- and she had to amputate her legs till only half her thighs are left. Reason being is that she could not give up her daily kopi with sugar even though her life's in danger. And my grandma lived during war time, so she labored the whole day without rest- and still kena diabetes. So I suspect coffee is the culprit. When I lived in Thailand, everything there is so sweet - the cakes, biscuits and even their carbonated drinks are sweeter than the Malaysian version. But I seldom come across those with diabetes- except if they are not physically active but keep taking sweet things.
From observations, I would think that if we are active and exercise lot, our blood sugar can be in good control but once we take too much coffee, it taxes the pancreas. And if I take less coffee, I don't get hunger pangs or so even allergies or sinus.
Listen to our bodies is the best- if we feel that taking the coffee actually sabotaj us, best to reduce.
