Hahaha I personally have 2 ex from Singapore. And I've been to Orchard road multiple times. Nothing special. Maybe different people have different views. Or you guys standard too low haha xD. Oh yea by the way those that told me are mostly female.

So, exactly where is this place lah, where you and your people think is so happening and the girls are so pretty?

Oh you mean which place I've been to that has alot of pretty girls? I have not been to many different countries but Asian wise I would say Taiwan. (On the street wise not actress ceelbs etc.)

Personally I like Japan, but Taiwan's not too bad.

But what about Malaysia? When you say that Singapore is comparatively not happening and little to no pretty girls, it's compared to Malaysia, right? Otherwise, it has no relevance to the people in this thread.

Aih sleep.gif what about the pretty women all the sudden hahahhaa... Singapore is very nice. Clean, lots of cultural places with decent maintenence, fantastic MRT system (though not perfect but it's expanding very well), and generally good life.

Only drawback I can think of is the expensive car price and the small non-landed houses (unless you're like the HUGE BLOODY MULTIMILLIONAIRE), so no kampung life for you all who want to have a kebun or estate where you plant your own durian trees, and rearing chickens, and yeah, I guess in general the lifestyle is faster (thus more suited for young ppl XD)

In fact, if you're young, Singapore is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than Malaysia. Fullstop. There's nothing you can argue that can't be countered, except homesickness.

However if you're old and you yearn a simple life with your pets and a kampung... Singapore.. might not be for you (and even then, there are some ways to get what you want)  Though this too is mitigated by the fantastic medical care singapore has (so i heard)

That's why I like Singapore.

By 40, I would have saved the ringgit equivalent of what I could have saved if I worked in Malaysia until 55. After that it's a simple choice whether I want to retire back to Ipoh or keep working to buy that sports car.

But true... Singapore not that good for old age if you don't have a few million saved up. But as Malaysians, we always have the option to retire back home, where the grass is greener and the wantanmee is cheaper.

for PR status, u need to work for at least 6 months and with 6 months of pay slip.

It's not a rule or precondition that you have to work 6 months before obtaining PR. All the form says is that applicants should submit 6 months of payslips. If you don't have 6 months of payslips, you can still apply. All the govt wants to know is how much you really earn. 6 months of payslips allows them to detect people who don't have a constant/stable monthly salary, where they might pick the highest month to represent their "monthly" salary - thereby giving the impression that they earn that high salary every month.

there's Botak Jones at TPY... nearer to Braddel MRT.. smile.gif

I've tried the steak at Botak Jones at Somerset Rd opposite Cineleisure.

It's just like a bigger serving of Western Food at a food court. Better cut than the food courts definitely, but nothing special. Maybe it's just that one piece of steak that I got served but I really don't see how they can compare their cuts to those from the proper steakhouses etc. And I ordered the most expensive steak on the menu.

And it was hot too... no fans etc.

Black Angus at Orchard Parade is probably the best steak (I had prime rib and tenderloins) I have ever had in Singapore - much better than pretentious outfits like Lawry's.

Where's Orchard Parade? If I set out from Mandarin Hotel, do I go left/up towards Taka, or go right/down towards Centrepoint? Any landmarks?

actually 2.8k is only 80% on my salary in malaysia..
so it is not a wise choice to accept this offer?

What other offers have you gotten?

And why do you want to move to Singapore? ie. do you mind NOT moving to Singapore?

another reason is SG actually nearer to my hometown, so i can go home more frequent. I m Johorean...

OK. So you want to come to Singapore. It's a push to move, not a pull.

Now, what other offers have you received?

QUOTE(f.e.a.r @ Mar 10 2010, 10:49 PM)
thts the only offer from sg i have at the moment.

If this is your only offer, then there's no need to ask whether it's a good/fair offer or not. You have no alternatives.

The only question you should ask is whether it's worth it, vs what you're doing now in Malaysia.

Do you guys thinks that working in sg will get a career enhancement/build a better profile compared working in MY? What is the main reason/attraction for you to work in sg ? mind to share?

Of course. Virtually every industry (with the exception of palm oil and agriculture related industries) is bigger in Singapore vs Malaysia.

Main attraction... MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.

Same motto what the lovely ladies in geylang have.

Oh, I didn't know you give back your salary each month. Must be such a wonderful place, that other planet where you live.

My eldest kid is 3.
If I can get citizenship before he is 6, I hope to minimise the differences between him and other kids.

For me personally i am not worried. i can deal with it.
i am more worried abt my kids.

For Chinese Malaysians (including kids), I think they integrate extremely well into Singapore society. Lots of Singaporeans are married to Malaysians, have Malaysian parents, grandparents, cousins etc and almost all of them work with or have worked with Malaysian colleagues.

I would be extremely surprised if there was any sort of overt discrimination against Malaysians on a personal / individual basis.

Just to share.

I just renewed my REP using e-REP a few minutes ago. Approval was instantaneous and I immediately paid online using Visa.

One thing to note though is that the 5 year validity starts from the date of the approval ie. today for me. Not from the last day of your previous REP. Since my previous REP still had one more month to go, that remainder got burnt.

only 5 years given? I was given 10 yrs on my REP renewal.

That's what you get with e-REP. There was no option to renew more or less than 5 years.

bike is even worst than car. have you check out the rush hour jam ?

And you have to really love carbon monoxide to do the bike thing. It's terrible... they get herded like cattle at JB and Woodlands.

Just found out the cost of childcare in SG. $2k onwards/month per child if I'm not a PR/citizen.

From the PAP childcare centers? I think the private ones won't care.

Cheaper just to get a maid, or if your wife earns less than 3K, she should just stay home.

If u ever experianced the massive jam at Woodland check point, then u will know why ppl still wan to take 2nd link.. look at the LTA webcam from onemotoring.com.sg on Friday 8pm, comparing the crowd for bikes at Woodland and Tuas, then u will know..
Commuting from JB to SG is just a bad experience. Time consuming and uncomfortable.

QUOTE(Blinque @ Mar 17 2010, 12:37 PM)
what if an employee is employed by a SG company, but is based in Malaysia?

how will the CPF & tax be like? And I also assume a SG bank account will be required, any difficulty if transferring the money out from the SG account to be use in Malaysia (i.e. pay house/car loan, credit cards, insurance, etc)
Is the company employing you in Singapore or in Malaysia? ie. is the company that pays you SINGAPORE COMPANY (S) PTY LTD or is it SINGAPORE COMPANY (M) SDN BHD?

And where are you hired? Malaysia or Singapore? That will largely determine whether you are a Singaporean employee based in Malaysia or a Malaysian employee based in Malaysia. This determines if you pay & receive CPF or EPF.

And all that... along with how many days you are in Malaysia and/or Singapore each year, will determine what kind of tax you will pay in Malaysia and Singapore.

QUOTE(Lester1987 @ Mar 17 2010, 03:07 PM)
if i were him, i will sent my kids back to MY to study as well. at least they can speak 3 language which is better than most Singaporean educated student. but our education system is not that good compare to Singapore and most importantly, Malaysia's education is cheaper.
What I find is that most of the Malaysians who speak 3 languages usually don't speak all 3 very well.

In Singapore, you'd tend to find that most of them are pretty good in both the languages they learn.

So, IN GENERAL.... it's a choice between better than average for 2 major languages, or below average for 3 (2 major, 1 minor).

If the child is intelligent, and more importantly likes studying - then Singapore surely has more opportunities.

But on the other hand, if the child is a slow learner and dislikes studying - Malaysia (and non-Chinese vernacular school) might give him a more enjoyable childhood.

Having said that, I think neighbourhood schools in Singapore might also a good balance of teacher/curriculum quality & stress to the child.
