But that someone will only hire the one with the permit etc..
*
The WP / EP is tied to the company. When u leave a company, it cancelled automatically. Thus saying someone only hire one with the permit is ridiculous coz they still need to RE-apply the WP/EP if they employ those with WP/EP.
Story are different if the job seeker is a citizen or SPR, no WP/EP needed and they can start working immediately.

*
Sure, we need to know what happening out there. Else U would be like those Foreigner who think that Malaysia is still living on tree.
But u asking whether ppl look down u Malaysian or not, Sg ppl kiasu or not. What can your prepare for that?

QUOTE(chess_gal @ Oct 18 2009, 05:48 PM)
If you convert your license in JB or nearer to the causeway, the JPJ would cut off your Msia license, and you can no longer drive Msian registered cars.
*
I emailed JPJ last time they said I still can drive Malaysia registered car.
And supposingly the invalidation of the Malaysia License is done by Sg LTA. however, they just checked my license and return it to me.

QUOTE(alvin227 @ Oct 18 2009, 07:32 PM)
hmmm...i thought you still can drive Malaysia registered car after you get the license from sg? Since the one you get is an international license?
*
Who told you that? Singapore Driving License is never a real international license. To get a international license, you need to apply for the International driving permit from AAS http://www.aas.com.sg/?show=content&showview=8&val=135

QUOTE(seantang @ Oct 18 2009, 08:08 PM)
Assuming you have 1-4 years remaining on your license, does JPJ refund you the fee for the unexpired period when they destroy your licence?
*
They will not refund anything. Ok, my case is they never destroy my license so different story.

There is no income ceiling (unless applying for CPF Housing Grant and/or an HDB loan).

My Singaporean fren hold his PhD cert until he get married becoz of the 8K limit.
Yes, he hold it because they wan to get the 20K subsidize grant / CPF housing grant. So mean your bf might want to get a HDB loan?

QUOTE(evilnickwong @ Nov 1 2009, 01:17 AM)
Anyone here know about the 15% withholding tax?

I just started work here recently and my company HR said that for the first 7 months, I will have 15% salary deducted as withholding tax. And she said it will be refunded to be when 1) resign or 2) become PR.

I thought it would just be used as a form of monthly deduction for annual income tax purposes, but she said no. Anyone care to enlighten me on this? 15% is alot. -.-
*
Err.. I found out HR in some company is not professional. My company HR also, they won't tell the real story, or even themselves don't know what happening.
If you work in Singapore for less than 183 days, you are considered as non-resident. and you will have to pay a 15% tax.
If U work longer than tat, then you'll be taxed accordingly. check here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual_in...ax_in_Singapore

I cant read & write chinese, so I learn mandarin from friends and colleagues. And I tend to use english word to replace some of the mandarin word.

Plus, mandarin is not really my strong language, I speak better cantonese.

I have a Thai colleague who was seconded to Singapore for a year, after mingling with him for just 2 days, he can tell i am a Malaysian. Not that I speak Mandarin to him but more to personality wise. Apparently Msian tend to be more hospitable and friendly.
*
Non of these show tat you are not Singaporean woh. Some Singaporean also cannot read chinese, but they can speak a bit. I also got Singaporean fren who speak cantonese. If I not saying I m malaysia, they would just treat me like a local. Or maybe I stay in JB for too long??

If i not mistaken your entitled to one bottle of wine or spirit, the 2nd one and above will kena tax, right?

Anybody got tips on what wines are good? Tried ice wine from canada, so damn sweet like drinking grenadine.
*
If u are away from Singapore for more than 1 day, coming back to Sg by Air, and not from Malaysia..
Then u are entitled to buy:
1. 1 L of hard liqour
2. 1 L of wine
3. 1 L of Beer

Just for the sake of clarification, assuming I'll be arriving at Changi airport from Australia before crossing the causeway back to JB on the same day, would I have any issues or whatsoever at Woodlands checkpoint with the aforementioned duty-free hard liquor (assuming I have no problems clearing the custom at Changi)? This is my first time coming back via Singapore so I'm kind of not too sure how it works there.

Also, I would appreciate if anyone is kind enough to give some information on how strict is the Singaporean Custom in the airport, as in would they check your bags thoroughly like what the Aussie do?
*
So u mean u going to bring the hard liquor to Malaysia from Australia thru Singapore??
You should worry about Malaysia custom right?
Singapore custom check your baggage with the X-ray when you coming into Singapore, but not when you are going out.
Malaysia custom only allow you to buy 1 L of duty free liquor, when you arrive by AIR. I don think you get Duty free Liquor when you going into Malaysia by bus / car.. Ppl would hide inside their bag, and whether they will check your bag or not.. is depend on your luck.

Ummm... you misunderstand me.

"At the discretion of the authorities" means that there are no "rules"... only NON-BINDING guidelines. That means the govt can CHOOSE to follow the guidelines, OR NOT... on a case by case basis.

Added on December 27, 2009, 9:30 pmI did. I got my PR within 3 months of arriving in Sg.
*
I also got mine within 4 month, after arriving at SG, and I can be considered as fresh grad that time (at least my company say i m fresh).
But that was last time. Now not so easy anymore. Have to tell u the fact so that you don put too much hope on this.

nky_kevin: Just come to work and see whether they grant u PR or not.. I don think you need that PR status urgently?

smile.gif I hope the authorities won't change the rule in the next 2 or 3 years.
Anyway, have you guys heard about Singapore employer sending/subsidizing their employee (Malaysians) for higher education qualification? Is it common?
*
It's possible, but usually they come with certain rules/bond... For my company, if u take any scholarship from them, you must become a Singapore Citizen after they grant u the scholarship.

minimum is 1 month, i been in to singapore 2 time before i got my work pass, the 1st time, they grant me a 90 days social visit. the second time, its 30 days. never heard of 14 days before.
*
It's 14 days before 1 March 2007.
After 1st March 2007, All ASEAN Citizen excluding Myammar can enter other ASEAN country (excluding Myammar) for Social Visit for 30 Days.

---
There is a rule, u can go in and out Singapore with a social visit pass (ie just with the chop on your passport) consecutively for maximum of 90days. After 90days, they will not allow u to enter for a few days.. How long, I'm not sure.. After that period, u can re-enter Singapore again.

Hey guys. I'm going into my final year of my studies in a local private uni in MY. I'm currently doing electronics engineering and I need to undergo industrial training at June this year. Practically I have quite an interest in undergoing my industrial training in Singapore. However I would like to ask whether do engineering companies in Singapore accept Malaysian internships? If yes, can recommend me on some electronics engineering or networking companies?

Thanks alot and I would be happy if any of you would give me some advices on my internship as well!
*
Yes, some of the company accept intern from Malaysia. The company, u have to search yourself.
If your university can accept your intern outside Malaysia, I think everything is fine. You have to check whether your lecturer is willing to travel so far to look for u. (of coz they are willing to travel if somebody is paying for them)
