You can't remember which day you arrived in Singapore, and which day you left? Why must you 'check'?

I started my job in Sg mid of March, I go back Penang once a month for 2 - 3 days, since October I station at Batam, our company sub-con site, probably until next year, but i go back Sg every Saturday and come to Batam again on Monday..

The period I stay in Sg is around 6-7 months since March, I just want to play safe, I'm not sure the exact period I'm here..

No worries, rayray, I've got my job here with my academic transcripts. Interview + landed a job here in April, but convo in Aug. It's not an issue, just u have to make sure ur letter from uni (to obtain ur Employment Pass for example) clearly stated that u hv fulfilled all d requirements + to be awarded / conferred degree in ??? (must have the keywords in the letter, if not  vmad.gif , like me lor, travelled to MOM for few times)...

My PR application = rejected.  cry.gif so sad. wrong timing i think (self-comforting tongue.gif ). a fren of mine, who is also an engineer (but M&E, im C&S) = rejected although he has been working in SG for two years (both of us applied in aug, that time d gov said population in SG > 5 million). sweat.gif or maybe bcoz of d job credits scheme is extended untill next June, so doh.gif want to d prudent as d economy of SG is recovering from recession...im a bit emo now...as in my country, im rejected...in sg, im also rejected... sweat.gif

in d letter stated i may apply in 2 years time blink.gif can i appeal? how? can it b earlier? say, another 6 months to improve myself. +++ my credentials...i want to further my master studies (after getting PR, with subsidies from SG gov thumbup.gif, but now cry.gif  )
*
I applied in Aug too, I called to ICA 2 days ago, still processing, the officer asked me to call back after 4 weeks, she said now high volume application, normally it takes 3-6 months to process..

zzz...1.6k is too low lar... i got mine from jobstreet...in msia lor... aus degree from which uni? top tier or 3rd tier? if u r confident i recommned u put 2.8k

u cannot get visa if earn less than 2.5k la...less than 2.5k is semi skilled... d only professionals that earn 2.5k below with EP are contract workers
for u it is subjective.. cause utar is ntg 2 brag.. so it depends on ur interview n how u present urself...recommend 2.5k
sgd lar... who wanna work in sg earn ringgit... lol
if u want professional EP visa... u need to earn at least 2.5k... that's what usually bachelors get... unless u r contract worker like my friend
banks is hard... unless u have experience... they want ppl withj experience in investment banking which msia lacks...msia can only provide engineers =.="
i would think it is between a range of 4k-8k... hdb apartment... 2-3k a month... condo, 5k... wife n kids yes...

yahoo! i got a place new yew tee... my friend bought her place there.. renovation now... dunnit 2 take stupid long 2 hour rides from bishan d
*
I don't understand "u cannot get visa if earn less than 2.5k la...less than 2.5k is semi skilled... d only professionals that earn 2.5k below with EP are contract workers"

do we need visa? what is professional EP? EP is EP, dude..

I know EP got 3 categories, so u categorize Q1 as semi skill? or Q1 as contract workers?
It's nothing to do whether you are semi skill or contract workers.. ZZzzzz...

* P1 Pass – for applicants earning a fixed monthly salary of more than $7,000.
* P2 Pass – for applicants earning a fixed monthly salary of more than $3,500 and up to $7,000 and he/she possesses recognised qualifications.
* Q1 Pass – for applicants earning a fixed monthly salary of more than $2,500 and he/she possesses recognised qualifications.

Don't confuse ppl with Professional EP, how do you define?

seantang,

From the previous post i read, your stock investment in sg are more to government-owned company while your stock investment in malaysia are more to blue chips.

From your experience, what is the return rate annually invest in these stocks?

Do you invest in those volatile or fluctuate stock to earn money in short period of time?

AFAIK, we need time to time monitor for these kind of stocks..

But for blue chips stock, you aiming for long term return, right?

QUOTE(seantang @ Jan 15 2010, 11:04 AM)
In Malaysia, my strategy is simple. Entertainment/Gambling/Drinking/Smoking (Piew/Tou/Yam/Chui). Dividends are generally about 6-8%. Buy on dips and forget about them. They will pay you a salary.

In Singapore, I was a bit more adventurous.

I bought small caps which tend to be more volatile. One example is Chemoil. I bought in August 08, then the recession came. Then the CEO died in a helicopter crash. Then the major shareholder (CEO's family) sold all their shares at below market price. I'm still stuck or cut loss at 70% loss.

So now I don't invest in small caps or non-blue chips. I don't have the time to research or follow the companies.

In Sg, I'm buying SPH, Starhub, Singpost and maybe ST Engineering. All high dividend yield (5-10%) although not much capital gain relative to the other sectors.

In HK, want to pick up HSBC... but still waiting for a good entry point.

In the US, I've got a lot of my own company's stock. Also blue chip, high dividend.

My strategy now... concentrate on my job. As for shares, buy on dips and forget about them. Just collect dividend every few months. As soon as I find that my dividend reach 50% of my salary, I'll retire.

how do you divide your monthly income into saving, investment, accommodation, food, entertainment, etc?

QUOTE(seantang @ Jan 15 2010, 11:34 AM)
Aiya... depends on your salary, doesn't it?

But generally, I try not to spend more than 2.5K each month on total expenses, on average. If I buy a car, I'd probably need to make that 4K a month.

Right now, the remainder of my disposable income probably goes into shares (80%), savings (20%)... but it's not the same every month because it depends on whether there are any shares worth buying at that time.

Previously, the split was 70% savings, 30% shares before I decided I don't want to add anymore FDs.

If I buy a property, it'll probably swing to 70% property, 30% shares.

There are some highly volatile sectors, especially the China linked counters. The other thing about SGX is that GIC, Temasek and MOF are majority shareholders in most of the bluechips. So, if you range your expectations accordingly, you're in good stead.

US, I don't like much because of the crappy paperwork (W8-BEN etc... I can't remember how many times I've filled up this damned form and they reject saying it's filled up wrong, but they don't tell you where it's wrong).
*
yeah, it depends on salary, but i meant in percentage, I just want to get a rough idea, what is the good planning (real example of you, not from theoretically from book, i know everyone might be different, but i just want a guideline) to divide salary into saving, investment, accommodation, food, entertainment, etc..

I never believe working in Singapore is more stressful, actually it depends on yourself, this is your own working attitude, right?

I heard that Keppel gives 5 to 6 months bonus each year, how true is that?
All the subsidiaries under Keppel Corporation gives 5 to 6 months bonus?
like Keppel Shipyard, Keppel FELS, Keppel Singmarine, etc..

QUOTE(seantang @ Feb 4 2010, 01:45 PM)
Does Keppel pay their staff the same basic salary as other similar companies with similar staff? If they give 15% less basic but 100% more bonus (ie. 6 months instead of 3), it comes back to the same total figure. Bonuses are discretionary, basic is mandatory.
*
they offered me exactly the same salary as my current job, im just joining my current company for 1 year, which means I don't have any increment if I accept this offer, seems like im losing 1 year experience and i heard that their increment is low, but good bonus to compensate..

let say next year i want to change job, if i stay with current company, i can accumulate 2 years experience with same company, I can ask for higher salary. if I accept the offer now, next year i probably couldn't get that amount of salary..

the most important thing to bother me is, my CV not very good, first job 10 months, second job 9 months, now third job 1 year..

18 days annual leave is good? If you want long annual leave, then at least 30 days. 18 days is just barely above half a month.

I guess he working for alpine services or heatec jietong.
