EP is just an very very ordinary card laminated with a plastic cover only. Unlike work permit (if ur paid is below $2.5K), it is a proper card like Msia IC whereby there is a photo embeded into the card.

This is regarding income tax. It stated that we need to pay income tax when we work and stay in Singapore for at least 183 days. Does this means that we need to pay income tax when we stay and work in Singapore for 183 days when we start to get our WP/SP/EP or we start enter through the immigration?

actually 2.8k is only 80% of my salary in malaysia..

considering that i can save more by working in sg..lets say i can save 1.5ksgd (MYR3600) with income SGD2.8k. I am not able to save that much in Malaysia although my salary is >4kMYR.

My fren told me as long as dun join construction, heavy machineries and property and shipping industries, you are safe.

All these industries will not be paying out bonuses nor increments for the next few years as these industries will be incurring losses.

Keppel is under the "marine" industry. And this year they paying out 9 months bonus. But i think 2010 wont be so hot since in 2009 they had at least 4 FPSO projects, this year currently 2 are active, another ship is under going preparation for the conversion.

Keppel tuas. Keppel singmarine and keppel fels not doing as well as tuas during 2007-2009.

I suppose there is a vacancy for project engineer since the project engineer who i used liaise with resigned and it seems they havent found a suitable replacement yet.

When i said not doing so well, i meant the amount of projects that either tuas, fels or singmarine get. Not how much bonus the respective shipyards pay to their respective employee.

My friend told me that the monthly salary at Keppel not that high, so that's why they can afford to give out such high monthly bonuses. For KFELS, I believe its bad because they haven't secured much contracts so they are working off their orderbook. But I heard recently they got a huge contract from Petrobras, 1bln or more. Then I started to see KFELS ads looking to hire Malaysian SPM leavers to be trained to work in their shipyard (check Jobstreet) so definitely they are up to something big. Petrobras currently the only major company still investing in building rigs, but oil prices have stabilized so maybe things will get better soon.

u can use debit card instead of credit card in SG. Their debit card is accepted by all merchants here. and the debit card works as good as a credit card as u will enjoy some rebate when u swipe it just like what we are getting in Malaysia. Not advisable to use ur MY CC here if not needed because the exchange rate sux. I have been using my DBS and citibank debit card here for the pass 6 months, so far non of the transaction got rejected as long as ur account have enough money. My friend tried to use his Malaysia Maybank Debit card here last time but it got rejected. Malaysia really "失败" in their debit card compare to SG.

don't know. the interest is very low, i believe banks in Malaysia offer higher interest rate.

my fren have around RM8k in the account and he is just doing a $70 transaction. because he didn't carry enough cash, i ended up helping him to swipe with my Malaysian Credit card and the transaction gone through with the same machine. it isn't that called "失败" and that made my friend dam embarrass as he was looking for me all around the place to pay for him.
