i would like to knw hows the ACCA tuition fees over there
The ACCA website should be able to answer that, no?

QUOTE(pennee86)
..and what kind of job u work for in accouting field..account assistant?account executive or auditor?
Do you have a degree?

If not, then accounts assistant or audit assistant would be the obvious jobs. If you haven't finished ACCA, your options are limited. Even if you finish your ACCA, without a degree your options in fields other than straight accounting are also limited (unless you're willing to accept diploma type salary).

If you have a degree, then you can go for an accounts exec or auditor job (ie. graduate position) and then do your ACCA to qualify as registered/qualified accountant.

I meant the exam fees paid to ACCA. You can self study, right? But if you want to pay for tuition, you can do so of course. No idea what the tutors charge for tuition.

If you don't mind me asking, if you have a degree - why do you choose ACCA? Why not choose a qualification program that only admits graduates like CA or CPA?

Err... no, ACCA confers on you the designation ACCA or Chartered Certified Accountant, not CA.

By CA, I mean the title Chartered Accountant conferred by the various Institutes of Chartered Accountants of several Commonwealth countries like Australia, England & Wales, Ireland, NZ, Scotland, Canada etc.

hi guys and gals, I'm here again...
I am a fresh graduate and I've got a job in SG...
today, I received my letter of appointment...
but, I'm not sure about something...

ANNUAL LEAVE
Seven (7) days'-annual leave shall be granted to you after completion of one yea/s service
with the Company.

Who can tell me about this? It means I only have 7days annual leave? I only can apply for my annual leave after one year?
I will start my work on july...but, I'm blur about all these...

means that u have to work one year for the company, then they will give u 7 days of annual leave. yes any leave u apply before one year is not annual leave. check with ur employer / HR / colleague about this.

i will be working in singapore next month. only been there once when i was a small kid. how you guys find accomadation? i was looking for a place to rent, somewhere near dover/buona vista MRT. I was told that area is expensive. You think i can get a room under $500 or better still $400?
how much is your expenses/month? mind to share? i estimate $500=accomadation, $400=food, $100=transport, so $1k/mth. is that roughly correct? so scared, never live alone b4, all this while live with mom&dad.

Where are you working? I am same as you, but I am luckier than you because I am quite familiar with SG.
I just found my room, at Toa Payoh, is an utility room and it costs me SGD300 per month. The room is...small enough...but I am still ok wif that..as long as I can stay at single room, don't like to share rooms with other people.

I have already emailed them, now I'm waiting for their reply.
Normally a fresh graduate will meet this kind of treatment?
or this is SG companies' rules & regulations?
cos my friend can get 14days annual leave, but how come I only have 7days?

Every company will have their own leave benefits and arrangements. Just because this one company gave you only 7 days and requires you to earn/accrue the leave first before taking it - doesn't mean that all companies are like that.

Having said that, 7 days sounds very little. Usually, I've seen around 12-16 for newcomers.

How would we know lah? We don't know anything about you, your company or your friend.

Just wait for the company to reply your email.

Pennen86,

If you wish to further your acca here, you can alw google for FTC Kaplan Singapore or FTMS Singapore for the fee breakdown. The professional stage fee varies from S$580 to 650.

Seantang,

Having a CA is no doubt more prestigious but do take note that not everyone CAN take CA paper especially for ICAEW, For ICAEW qualification, the graduates not only need to be employed by recognised training provider/center (eg. Big 4) but need to have at least 2nd class upper degree to be admitted for the examination. Plus, the fee is not cheap. ICAEW classes is only held in Sunway College, KL, hence not many opt for CA UK here in Singapore, trust me it is not easy to self study when you have million of things to do in office and limited annual leave.

As compared to ACCA, you can sit for the examination anywhere and it is cheaper too. Honestly, being in Singapore, ACCA/CA/CPA are quite the same. I have asked my partner why Big 4 here don’t sponsor graduates for professional qualification and he mentioned that it was not necessary as an accounting degree is deemed to be sufficient. ANd suprisingly, many partners here only have CPA singapore.

Chess gal

I'm sure everybody has valid and compelling reasons for the choices that they make. I don't dispute that at all. As with all things in life, there is a price to pay for everything.

It's just a personal curiosity of mine why young people in the accounting field in Malaysia, and to a lesser extent in Singapore, are so attracted to ACCA. Especially those who already have accounting degrees... when that accounting degree (especially those from a university from a Commonwealth country) opens up the CA qualification, and those from Australia, Singapore, US etc opens up the CPA qualification.

"Like I mentioned, not every graduates are eligible to sit for CA examination thus opted for ACCA. You have to be offerred to do a CA programme, whereas ACCA opens up to both accounting and non-accounting graduates. Though I have a degree in accounting and finance but i realised I missed out quite a lot back in uni as my syllabus just touches the basic accounting but not the practical part.

ACCA does quite a lot of marketing and promotion, plus with their reasonable fee, so it is understandable why more ppl are doing ACCA as compared to CA.

ACCA is also open to non-graduates ie. secondary school leavers, which is why I sometimes find it curious that degree graduates would be motivated to do the same program secondary school leavers do... especially when graduate-only programs like CA and CPA are available. But then like you said, the path of least resistance tends to be the most trodden.
