QUOTE(Joelion @ May 24 2009, 09:50 AM)
hi guys,

i m fresh grad with Degree in EE and have been looking for a job for more than 3 month.   sad.gif
i had plan to come down s'pore and find a job since most of my application thru job website do not coy any response from s'pore employers

i wanna ask is it higher chance to get an interview over s'pore instead of m'sia? what are the document that i shall bring along for employment ? is it true our visa only valid for 1 month , after 1 month we need to reapllly it ?

and finally, how was the electrical and electronic market currently doing in s'pore? any job opening ?

Suggestion and comment are most welcome as it is urgent as i am clueless now.
*
E&E market in Singapore is as badly hit as Msia's or maybe worst. My bf is in this field and he was forced to take one day leave everyweek. No bonus, no promotion.

The visa you are talking about is the visitor's pass. To extent, simply just go out to JB and comes back in.

My PR application went through smoothly, I did not translate my birth certificate.

But seriously getting PR in Singapore is a breeze, i booked my appointment at 10am, reached there 9.45, scanned my documents at the e-counter, then went in to sit, thinking it would be an hour or so before my turn. I took out my PSP to play, before i can even select my game, my number was called.

Sat there, chit-chat abit with the cute officer then off I go, everything less than 10 mins.

Less than 2 months, they sent me the 'welcome card'.

Yesterday I went to get my IC done in Kajang (Lost my IC >.<), Went there at 9.30am, take number (20 ppl in front of me), not many ppl but number wasnt moving.... finally got my picture taken at 12.30am and asked to balik tunggu 10 hari... >.<. 180 min/20 ppl = 9 mins per person.... okayla.. ader improvement.

For the Ipohites in Singapore, Firefly will be commencing one flight a day on 1,3,5,7 between SIN & IPH starting July 12. One way is around RM90 fare + RM80 tax. Beats the 8 hour bus ride, if you ask me.

We asked for this. Now that it's here, we'd better support it.

How about SIngapore to Subang? KLIA is soo freaking far despite I stay in Kajang. Just so inconvenient at times.

The only places I've seen that have walk in interviews for graduate level positions are factories and hotels. If you're targeting big audit firms or MNCs, I'm afraid the receptionist might not even buzz you in through the security door. For eg. my office has no receptionist in the reception area. Only a telephone which works only if you know what extension to dial.
*
I agree with seantang, you have to book a time, not turn up unexpectedly. It would look very very weird if you just show up without any appointment. No every HR Manager would wait there for ppl to show up for interview unless it is advertised in the media.

Good luck though.

yiivei,

do you happen to have relatives in singapore? best to stay with your relatives as it will be close to a month before getting any replies. Local graduates from NTU and SMU are graduating real soon, so most probably local firm will hire the locals first since they are eligible for the Job;s credit scheme (Gov subsidies local staff cost).

A risk to take to come here without a job.

When you mention taht locals alw ask for higher salary, any source to support your claim? If you are referring to labour worker, aunty uncles at food court, perhaps yes.

But if you are referring to professionals talent, then I think locals and the foreigners are on equal opportunity and pay scale. At least that is what I think and encounter at my work place.

Same here, my firm even allow foreigners to take 4 mths of maternity leave (Subject to approval la), though the government only subsidised local employees.

Perhaps Nicvoo's industry is very much localised, thus the Chinaman mentality. International corporation cannot afford to be too bias, otherwise may reflect badly on them. You know corporate image, corporate responsibilities are highly regarded in western companies.

Pennen86,

If you wish to further your acca here, you can alw google for FTC Kaplan Singapore or FTMS Singapore for the fee breakdown. The professional stage fee varies from S$580 to 650.

Seantang,

Having a CA is no doubt more prestigious but do take note that not everyone CAN take CA paper especially for ICAEW, For ICAEW qualification, the graduates not only need to be employed by recognised training provider/center (eg. Big 4) but need to have at least 2nd class upper degree to be admitted for the examination. Plus, the fee is not cheap. ICAEW classes is only held in Sunway College, KL, hence not many opt for CA UK here in Singapore, trust me it is not easy to self study when you have million of things to do in office and limited annual leave.

As compared to ACCA, you can sit for the examination anywhere and it is cheaper too. Honestly, being in Singapore, ACCA/CA/CPA are quite the same. I have asked my partner why Big 4 here don’t sponsor graduates for professional qualification and he mentioned that it was not necessary as an accounting degree is deemed to be sufficient. ANd suprisingly, many partners here only have CPA singapore.

"Like I mentioned, not every graduates are eligible to sit for CA examination thus opted for ACCA. You have to be offerred to do a CA programme, whereas ACCA opens up to both accounting and non-accounting graduates. Though I have a degree in accounting and finance but i realised I missed out quite a lot back in uni as my syllabus just touches the basic accounting but not the practical part.

ACCA does quite a lot of marketing and promotion, plus with their reasonable fee, so it is understandable why more ppl are doing ACCA as compared to CA.

Actually at the end of the day, it is just a qualification. It is the experience that counts.

It is like comparing a degree from Harvard Business School vs a degree from a local university. Just a degree.

hi
Need opinion
My ex-boss asked me to join him in Sg. Offered me the Account Manager post with salary of SGD 4.5/month
Q1.Would that salary suffice? For me alone
Q2.If i apply for SPR and got it, would the spouse (wife) automatically be entitled ?
*
No, not enough, salary ranges from the scale of S$10,000 to S$20,000 a month, so S$4.5k per month is not enough. Ask for a raise! >.<!!

Hmm, before we can conclude the ranges of the scale of S10,000 till20,000, you should ask also what is the company size and real responsible of the position. I have friends work as IT manager as salary 3.2k also. hehe
*
I was just being sacastic. Of course S$4.5K is suffice to support oneself!!
