QUOTE(seantang @ Dec 5 2009, 06:36 PM) I've been to JB only once for shopping/makan/jalan-jalan. It was very early on after I came to Singapore... when someone told me it made sense to earn in SG and spend in JB. Seriously, I felt in JB exactly what I feel in Jakarta or Manila. That it's not very safe to look & act like a foreigner, to have any money in your pocket and walking around without a local companion. Just feels like everyone's either going to rob me or stab me... or both.I have never been back since, and never intend to go back. JB may be part of Malaysia, but it feels like a mix between a cowboy town and an overcrowded slum, sprinkled with some fancy new buildings. Couldnt agree more. When I first came to Singapore, I thought JB being the nearest city would emulate Singapore to a certain extent, but imagine my horror when i came out from the custom! It is like stepping down from heaven to hell, worlds apart. Why couldnt they clean up the city? hell, even kajang is better.

QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Dec 6 2009, 09:57 AM) I dunno about the rest but my main concern is the political 'instability' in Malaysia now. The other thing would be safety. Hopefully it will change for the better in the future. .... oh yeah... and also the broadband speed Broadband speed!! Am in Kajang right now, OMG the line keep disconnected (Via HP) and don't even talk about speed man, one youtube video takes forever to load! Dont even get me started on safety!!! My parents said I am being too paranoid after staying in Singapore for so long, oh gosh, read the news man, it is like every other day ppl got killed or murdered or raped. How can I not be paranoid? Came back here 4 days ago and I have not stepped out from the house except for walking the dog. As for dinner, I called for delivery if my mum didnt cook.. hahhaha. If you ask me, I dont think I'd want to come back unless I decide to change my career path from an employee to owning a business. Other than that, nothing beats Singapore EXCEPT for the food!

QUOTE(! Love Money @ Dec 18 2009, 12:23 AM) hi all malaysia singaporean i have read the first page in this thread, however do i need passport when travelling to SG there? wat about working? need VISA? thanks very much... You do know Singapore is not part of Malaysia right? Of course we need a passport! From your reply, you seem to be doubting Singapore as your destination, if your fear overwhelm your intention to work in Singapore, then better stay put in Msia. I have seen Msian who are introvert and discrimating themselves from the locals only to find life miserable here with no friends. Singaporean in general do not discriminate as their great grandparents or relatives are Msian too. Suggest you to get a job before coming down here, there are Msian that came here for months but couldnt find a job. Being in Msia or Singapore doesnt make any difference in terms of getting a job. You submit online and wait for phone calls. It could be days or months depending on your luck.

QUOTE(! Love Money @ Dec 18 2009, 10:59 AM) wat about if i have experience in some field? i m not a fresh graduate... and singapore is not the only place that i choose... meanwhile i still got some time b4 unemployed i try to gather as much info as posibble whether i choose to land in SG or other place... What other info do you need? If you read up few pages back, most of us here are pretty comfortable in Singapore. Why not try applying for a job in Singapore and let nature takes it course. With the current market condition, I'd say the bargaining power is with the employer not the employee. My bf has been looking for an engineering position for over a year (While being employed in SIngapore, a PR with 4 years of experience) and was only called once or twice for an engineering position.

QUOTE(! Love Money @ Dec 18 2009, 11:37 AM) 1.then according to the economy situation do u think it is easy to find a job there? 2.how about the unemployment there? 3. my concern is the initial step if i m going the SG there... if the chance is slim then i think i better maintain myself here in malaysia and continue to be a 2nd level citizen... 1. No, not for experienced professional. A lot banks, MNC has headcount freeze, including E&E engineers. Of course there are exception cases, I am just speaking from what I observed. 2. Pretty high, foreigners will be the first on the chopboard when it comes to downsizing. 3. Apply for a job first before taking any first step.

QUOTE(wishb0ne @ Dec 19 2009, 02:40 PM) What is the average monthly payment to own a used car? Let say SG30,000 for 5 years. Including ERP, insurance and so on. Travel about 20-30 KM per day. Can the car register in Malaysia after finish paying the loan? I dont think it will be easy to bring the car back to Msia, it would need AP which will be very expensive. Not worth it if you ask me. As for car installment and monthly expenses, the last time my bf and I calculated, it will cost us about 1.8k. Not sure of the breakdown, but thats the max per month for a 30k loan.

QUOTE(wishb0ne @ Dec 19 2009, 08:00 PM) Alright, thanks. Then totally not worth for malaysian to own a car there. SG1.8k a month is alot for a used for. Some more SG30,000 is like RM72,000 here, where we can buy less than RM50,000 here. But usually in your workplace, how many percentage of the staffs own a car? Or mostly just travel MRT and bus? I can see it is not so convenience for some places especially during rainning season. Mostly use their parents' car. But most of my managers are driving cause they have kids. I'd say if you have a family, and working outside of CBD area, then owning a car will be more worth it and less expensive cause you wont have to pay ERP that often.

QUOTE(alvin227 @ Dec 19 2009, 08:11 PM) i believe it's very convenient by taking MRT and buses to travel in most of the places in Singapore. At least it's very convenient to me. Yup, but it would not be very convenient if you have children in tow.

QUOTE(wseng @ Dec 26 2009, 05:04 PM) ha.. would wish to join for gathering on the next one... I wanna check if in normally those public holiday do u guys have any problem obtaining a bus ticket back to KL ? If we were to get it in last minute ? Example if this new year on Fri, then getting it on WED, any high possibility of getting a ticket ? or is it always full ? Need to do some planning, some feedbacks please. . My feedback : Took a bus once from KL to SG, Causeway link express. It was on school holiday lately, I directly go PUDU get a ticket and leave on 10.30 pm on Sunday. Its possible . however my bus was full with only 6 places remaining. so maybe places quite limited but still able to get on last minute.. Usually the tickets are pretty limited. Esp First Coach. You may want to try Aeroline. I just bought mine last month. Unless you are not too particular with the bus company and bus condition. My preferred bus companies of all times are First Coach and Aeroline. Transtar is not bad but slightly expensive.

QUOTE(nky_kevin @ Dec 27 2009, 09:55 PM) thats not a very good news, I must say. Any tips can share what do it takes to be the PR there a.s.a.p? Exlcude the marriage to Singaporeans, please. There are no fast and hard rules of getting a Sg PR. I guessed you have not been reading Singapore news lately. The local Singaporean has raised their concern and dissatisfaction over significant influx of foreign talents and increasing PRs over these couple of years. Hence the Sg Gov is heading the public call to reduce the number of immigrants in the country by denying PR application. If you read up the past few post, there are applicants who had their application rejected despite being a degree holder and been staying in Singapore for the past one year or two. My advice is that, don't apply now. Wait till the hoo-haa die off after CNY. Added on December 27, 2009, 10:19 pmBtw, did anyone read of Dr Zambry statement to ban night express coaches? Is he out of his mind? This post has been edited by chess_gal: Dec 27 2009, 10:19 PM

QUOTE(nky_kevin @ Dec 27 2009, 10:26 PM) Don't worry. I can't apply now also. I'm still 1.5 years - 2 years more to complete my degree. I'm just planning ahead of my future; although it might be a little too late. I hope things changed by then. Talk about being competitive, haha.. anyways good to sediakan payung sebelum hujan.
