Yup, Level1 is a good product. But now, there come out another good product - that's tenda.

Just want to share, the performance of tenda n wifi router (W307R) is better than level1 n wifi router (WBR-6001).

I found the tenda wireless is more stronger than level1 wireless. biggrin.gif

I see, since this is a gift from PC.COM, normally it doesn't hold with any warranty already. You can double confirm with PC.COM.

Hi guys, just want to share my experience after my UNIFI router spoil I went to Subang Parade which the nearest mall I can get to from my house and wanted to buy the same Dlink Dir 615 because I am not familiar with networking. Went to the basement shops and found an elderly yet friendly uncle and auntie helping me with my problem. The uncle name Jimmy hand me a Tenda router and I was sceptic as I had never heard this brand before until he show me that he is also it. I ask him about the setup and he show me the setup in the browser page 192.168.0.1 step by step. He said that this Tenda is easier to setup as the configuration for UNIFI or Maxis Fiber has already been set leaving just to select which one to use only. It was so easy and I bought it straight away. At home it took me 2 minutes to setup everything and ready to surfing for my family. What surprised me was my dad who usually surfing web in the living room usually only can get 2 bars as my UNIFI setup is located at the back of the house. Now even to the front of the house with closed doors he can still receive FULL BAR thumbup.gif . Now I know TENDA and I will recommend anyone to just dump their TM router for this TENDA router thumbsup.gif . Below is the name card of the Uncle Jimmy and the box of router I bought from him with the sticker compatible with UNIFI and MAXIS FIBER for RM120 only icon_rolleyes.gif

Update: Got a problem after setup that youtube and web browsing cant connect but facebook working fine. At the wireless section wireless parameters choose the channel width at 20MHz and all working fine after that.

Update 2: The Youtube and web browsing problem still occurs. It seems that the problem happens because I setup my Tenda router with my laptop first then only connect to my UNIFI. To fix this have to do a hardware factory reset (software reset wont work) by pressing the back reset button for 10 seconds. After that connect the laptop or PC with the Tenda router and the UNIFI 'all together' and resetup again the UNIFI and router password.

The AC18 router comes with a firmware which has specific profiles for Malaysian ISPs. However, if you flash it to the latest available from the Tenda website, you will not have these profiles and hence won't be able to connect.

The solution is to flash Asus Merlin 68U firmware.

I'm considering this router, but a bit wary and have a few questions - hope you can shed some light?

> Tenda says the router can make calls on VoLTE - not clear VoLTE only or if other bands also supported for calls. What happens if I happen to be in an area that has 3G only? Will I still be able to make calls?
> When making calls, does the internet slow down or not work altogether?
> the WiFi antenna - can be screwed on/off, right?

Many thanks for your time...

If you are making calls on VoLTE, your speed will remain the same. Unless if you are making calls on 2G/3G network then the internet will not be usable.

Anyone knows if Tenda have any wireless router with 3g/4g where I can plug in a 3g/4g dongle? I have not been able to find much info apart from that one official website.

Tenda 4G680 looks fine but it I am exploring options that provide option to plugin a dongle.

I think the only sensible options right now if you want to plug in a dongle are the D-Link DWR-116 /118...

Shouldn't be a problem then. Don't you have IPV6 connection when that's enabled?

Anyone using their mifi 4G185? Been using since last year and so far most of the telco supported (umobile, webe, unifi mobile, digi, maxis) and can get decent speed. Purchase on OOKAS around 250.

alrite, confirmed the 4g680 router lte doesn't have ipv6.. since if i'm using huawei e5577s can get..tho it's just a preference.

So far the wifi signal... was unexpectedly stronger than I thought.. not bad for such small device to have strong wifi signal.

Hey guys. I saw some shops selling tenda wifi router on LZD. Says compatible with unifi.

How is it compared to the chinese unit which comes with chinese firmware? Can it be used with unifi or do we have to flash another firmware?

I'm thinking to get the new AC7

Hi,
Hope some experts here can help me with this question.

This is regarding Tenda 4G680 4G LTE Wireless N300 WiFi Router.

What I understood is this model uses 4G LTE as primary connection while wired connection as backup connection. The device automatically fails over to wired connection when 4G signal is lost and fail back when it resumes.

Let's say I put my Digi broadband SIM with no wired Internet connection on the router.

Can I connect my PC that doesn't have wireless network adapter, to the Ethernet port on the router via Ethernet cable to surf Internet using Digi LTE broadband? Are those Ethernet ports on the back of the router can be used for such purpose?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I've just bought Tenda 4G680. However, I'm having problem with the volte call.
Whenever i make/receive call, the connection will drop to wcdma, and Im not able to online. Im using Digi Sim card with volte service activated. Any special configuration required to enable in Tenda modem?

Same spec as Asus AC68U, but there is a reason why it is cheaper than the Asus whistling.gif

It is definitely not in the same league as the Asus, and the firmware is not as good as the Asus, for sure lol.

Yep, that's what I figured and also that's why I'm asking.

Reviews from Lazada and Shopee seem positive, but I'm looking more of a long-term experience.

It is honestly okay, but don’t compare it to the Asus RT-AC68U, as there is really no comparison, with the Asus much better than it by a long shot.

As for as i know unifi mobile will ask u to pay to use it as broadband.
It should be usable but its better for you to check with the seller.

Just bought Tenda AC 18 for Unifi.

Had setup my AC 18, connect to CAT5E cable and able to reach max speed 500 mbps.

But when connected to WiFi, my device can only reach up to 200 ++ mbps.

Can someone help me on this issue?

Hello,

I just bought a Tenda AC10U router for my turboed 10>100mbps from OOKAS. I find it a bit buggy at first but I'm surprised that I could nearly hit the full speed. Of course I should be using the 5Ghz channel to use it at its max speed. But I realized that it doesn't has IPv6 support. Will it be released in a newer firmware update?

Thanks

Guys, please beware that Tenda AC10U on unifi firmware has bug on the AC wifi. If you have unifi >100Mbps, you'll noticed that you wifi is somehow clamped to 100mbps. Already highlighted my case to Tenda Msia. Gonna ring distri soon

Will do. I'm seriously pissed with them. I know that most of my ac stuff max out at 100mbps, but the ac10u was certainly not working as it should per advertised. Despite this, I still bought ac18 yesterday..will turn the ac10u to AP on 2nd floor

In touch with Tenda's tech again today to try new firmware for the AC10U, and wifi ac1200 still stuck under 200Mbps. Now fighting my case for full refund. If they want me to stick to their product, then I want free upgrade to AC18!

Hi all,

My post here is academic to those who want to know about Tenda 4G680 modem.

All the LAN ports (LAN1 to LAN3) on the Tenda 4G680 ARE NOT GIGABIT ETHERNET.

If you plan on connecting these ports to other gigabit ethernet devices, it will connect as 100 Mbps speed only.

Other than that, great product, complete with VoLTE.

guys, need help here, i really hope some expert would help me on this.

I switch from unifi awful router to tenda ac18 (ac1900 model) last year but heres the problem.

Sometimes there is no internet connection (cable and wifi) even modem led is lit
*The above happens when Im using unifi router previously as well, just not as often

Whenever the modem is on, for some reason sometimes i cant access the internet, and i notice something below:
1) The right 4 led of the tenda router (2.4g, 5g, usb and sys icon) is not lit, although modem leds are lit normally
2) I cant access the admin page/web interface of the router for some reason

All I can do is unplug the power and repeat again until it works (the 10 seconds method).

I would like to call tmnet for diagnose but this time im using the 3rd party router, so I would like to know whether it is my modem problem or the router?

Sounds like the router is overheating. Try to get a laptop cooler and plug it in to make sure the router is not overheated. If that still doesn't solve the issue, I suggest RMA.

Why you need bridge mode on a mesh wireless system anyways?

The ports do functions as LAN ports on mesh mode.

I cannot remember if there is an option of just VLAN the Internet. I think it can do custom VLAN for Internet only. You can try that.

Overall performance, im happy with the product MW6
Seamless mesh wireless as advertised

*Supports unifi hypptv but once iptv enabled, main node LAN cannot be use for internet.

Since i can only use 1 LAN port on main node, i need to sacrifice my iptv for ethernet backhaul

Hi, I plan to buy this router for my parents to use for digi wireless broadband since unifi is nowhere to be seen in their taman.
1.Would like to know if the VOLTE is usable? Meaning able to make calls with digi infinite 150?
2. How's the Wi-Fi coverage area?

Initially planning to get the Huawei B618, but found this product which is more budget friendly.

Hi,
1. For this modem (Tenda 4G680), I can confirm that it supports VoLTE. However, please make sure that you are in the LTE coverage area.

2. I am impressed with the Wi-Fi coverage actually, even though it is only 2.4 GHz. I used Wi Fi Speed Test Pro app for Android, testing using TCP port settings with 100 MBytes of data. The average speed is around 90.7 Mbps, closed to the ethernet limit of 100 Mbps.

hi bro, I am using Tenda AC18 for double storey house, but I still need to put an extender on my 1st floor. I am on UNIFI 300 though. Take note that you will only get 500mbps on the 5ghz frequency.

I asked similar Q here, maybe you can refer: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4658096/+700#

I am also trying to get rid of my extender (I only get 10/20mbps on 1st floor). Same dilemma as you.

Guys,

I just bought tenda ac18 and perform default setup just now. My current unifi package is 500mbps. Anyhow, tried with 5ghz thru wifi next to the router i can only get max of 90mbps upload and 90mbps download. Tried with 2ghz got around 50mbps both. I thought that my unifi is stuck with 100mbps but called unifi and they confirm that my line should get 500mbps, not limitting to 100mnps. Anyone had experience this before?

Im using tenda AC1900 (ac18) and unfortunately i had updated the latest version of firmware from tenda website. Aand unifi cannot connect already. Do you have the original tenda AC1900 firmware V15.03.03.10 multi malaysia. Need to convert back to original firmware in order to use for unifi....
*
Just contact Tenda support. The tech will send u the UNIFI firmware through Whatsapp

Got conflicting setup, some refers to modem and others to router. Last night followed the setup guide said modem.
Hit problem said Ethernet cable not plugged in.

I tried again tonight.

New Tenda AC18 user reporting in.

Set it as ground floor AP. Coverage & speed faster than my D-Link DIR-868L (now a router). Ground floor guest room still gets 260 mbps (DIR-868L about 180 mbps).

If 1000 sq ft apartment, I believe Tenda AC18 should be OK. Definitely inferior than Asus routers. For faster & wider coverage, you can use Mesh Wifi eg TP-Link Deco M4 or Tenda MW6, but Deco M4 is better:

Hi, which Tenda model you are referring to? For 300Mbps bandwidth, you may consider model AC10U or AC18, another better option is mesh wifi - MW6.

1. TP-Link Deco M4
2. No MSRP AFAIK, you can look around online
3. Yes, since MW6 consists of 2 units

*
firdausbhari, I don't quite get you, Can you please elaborate more ?

I'm eyeing MW3 to cover some WIFI blind spots upstairs. My question is if main node is located at downstair (next to Maxis router) and second node is exactly upstairs above (typical double storey link house), do you reckon both nodes can establish a good MESH connection ?

Bought a MW6, wanna set it to Bridge mode (AP mode), but it seems loaded a special firmware for Malaysia to adapt Unifi and Maxis VLAN, and they forgot to add the bridge mode after, maybe they r too busy for that, so NO bridge mode available, no at all, it doesn’t appear in the apps, totally gone.

Sent an email to them and no response at all, tried to call to China HQ but no body pick up, IT IS HQ!!! Fking HQ, called few days with total about 30+ calls and no body pick up! Hello? Wanna sell but dun wanna service? One time business only?? That’s so China, clever on marketing but lousy after service, typical!

Better pray before buying any Tenda, it’s not much different like buying 2nd hand item in mudah.my, no after service and nobody cares

Support is non-existent for Tenda.

This issue is already reported few pages back. Return it if still possible.

Yes u can get good mesh connection. The wireless signal quite strong on this one. If only it supports bridge and other stuff, i would probably stay using the product.

even with lan cable connection also cannot?

i have this router with unifi turbo 300 mbps as well.
with this ac10u on 5ghz near the router can get 17x mbps, while with 2.4ghz just about 3x mbps something.

but use with lan cable only can get till 3xx mbps, this consider tenda router fault? So should i change to ac18 for better speed?

That has nothing to do with the router. It is just a limitation of wifi. I suggest you click on my signature and read ALL the green text.

Bro, I faced the same thing as you. Their official FAQ everything uses Bridge mode but in their latest app dun have bridge mode at all.

Got 2 solution here:
1. Official solution advised by Tenda technician - setup your Tenda Nova Mw6 into DHCP mode, remember to set into universal. That should solve your issue.

2. Download the old Tenda WiFi apk (just google search), most of the reviews that have bridge mode is around Feb 2018, so their app around that time still have bridge mode.

I solved mine with using method 2 first (abit cow boy I know), after that I got into touch with Tenda technician, then he advised me to change to DHCP mode.

P/S: Using UNIFI 300mbps

No issue on LAN, can burst to 300Mbps, but wifi certainly cannot. No matter which firmware I tried (Tenda tech gave me 3 custom firmwares to try on) , none of them able to go past 200MBps even sitting right next to router,.

No choice has to stick with this now. Just bought ac10u like 6 months Thinking was due to wifi limitation so no care so much as after chat with the seller from shopee also response that lan cable connection can reach 3xx mbps then is considered ok.

Maybe this is the difference between ac18 and the ac10u with rm100 more expensive. just hope tenda can really solve the wifi speed with firmware update one day ...

After setup of MW3 3pack , I got message 'internet connection failed' error code 678.

I have checked all connections are good, my router and it's wired and wireless wifi are good, can connect to other devices.

What could be the MW3 problem? All the nodes are red lighted.

Are you on Unifi? You need to select the Unifi mode if it is available when you are setting it up, if there is an option for that. If there is none, you might have to manually do it.

Finally managed to setup my MW3 3pack with help from their tech support.

Firstly contact WAN port from MW3 to modem Port1, set connection type as PPOE with ISP type as UNIFI and it functions as a router successfully.

Secondly contact WAN port from MW3 to router Port2, set connection type as DHCP with ISP type as General and it fuctions as a AP.

Quick installation guide not helpful at all.

Hi, I just changed my house Unifi to Maxis

The 'technician' just came and setup the TPLINK C5v (Maxis Router) and ask me to kautim my own Tenda (I used to use Tenda Ac18 as router for my UNIFI)

Due to the VOIP phone require TPLINK to works, I can't use my Tenda Ac18 as router anymore. I tried to hook the Tenda to TPLINK via LAN and have it broadcast WIFI SIGNAL only, but there is no 'bridge mode' available, will this DHCP mode setting thingy works for my case?

New Tenda AC18 user reporting in.

Set it as ground floor AP. Coverage & speed faster than my D-Link DIR-868L (now a router). Ground floor guest room still gets 260 mbps (DIR-868L about 180 mbps).

Hi, how did you make it into an AP?
Wired connection from your DLink to Tenda AC18?

Am trying to 'convert' my Tenda Ac18 to just broadcasting WIFI signal only, but can't find bridge mode in the setting.

Yes, wired to Tenda's port 1. If simple AP or bridge mode, no special setting needed. Just don't set anything in Internet settings & set a fixed IP eg:

If Wireless repeater, I couldn't any setting for it.

You should insert the LAN cable to WAN port on Tenda.

Hi guys

Is tenda 4G185 good enough? Not using for gaming or HD streaming.

Just light surfing and youtubeing.

But location is slightly remote to town. Although telco on mobile still show 4G

I'm currently using Digi Infinite 150 in B315, and the download speed is around 55Mb/s ±10 using internal antenna. BUT, i cannot help but to feel that it actually consistently performed lesser than that.

i also "published" it as home number, so when a call comes through, everything drops to 3G.

so....

is Tenda 4G680 v2 a reputable alternative to Huawei B315? or the venerable B618?

contruction- and quality-wise?

is the modem capable of LTE-A? of VoLTE?

what improvement or downgrade in term of download speed AND stability can i expect if compared to B315

compared to B618?

Hi guys, i have a problem regarding my Tenda Nova MW6 3 packs, one of my nova unit shows on the app that its offline. But the LED on the unit still shows solid blue.

I thought the app must be buggy, so i remove the unit, to add it back on my network. However, when i remove, it still shows the solid blue LED.

When i attempted to add the unit, it always failed. This is the 2nd time i have this issue, the 1st, is after 8 months of using, one of the units suddenly died on me, always shows up red LED. after that, i claimed warranty. Then after only 1 1/2 month of using the new pack, this happens.

Could you advice me on what to do ? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking into setting up another Tenda AC6 or Tenda AC10U as an AP from my current Tenda AC18. Reason, is to make the second router as a VPN client for certain of my streaming devices without affecting my main connection.

Apple TV 4K doesn't have VPN apps or manual setup for VPN unlike iPhone/iPad.

Anyone here currently using a second Tenda router as AP? VPN works on the AP router?

Hey there guys, I'm using tenda 4g680 and downloading games from steam. it keeps off shutting off after awhile. is it because of overheating or it's some sort of protection of the quota? I'm using digi infinite 150 though. Have asked tenda warranty department for further action. yet to reply.

Thanks first, guys.

Don't waste your money on a second router unless you plan to extend your WIFI range. Flash Merlin FW on your AC18 and you'll get "selective routing" function for streaming purposes. I've done that for my AC18 and I'm enjoying the best of both worlds i.e. VPN for Netflix (accessing the US content library) and the rest of the devices connected through the normal channels.

You need to buy VLAN switch. With this any router can use including China one.

Just follow exactly per the website. Read it few times.
VLAN = Virtual Local Area Network

VLAN = 500 for BTU/Fibre (connect WAN from BTU/Fibre to this port)
VLAN = 600 for IPTV (connect this port to your IPTV)

If you bought the local version, you don't need Smart Switch.

IPTV always the last port i.e LAN port 3 or 4

right now im using tplink c1200 from TIME. I just want better wifi coverage. Max speed im getting on 5ghz band is around 280mbps
so if I can get the same from MW3, i would be happy

No, Tenda MW3 is a crap mesh WiFi.

Even the Tenda MW6 in the latest hardware version performs terribly after they cut cost.

biggrin.gif thanks for the info sifu. So far I've had quite good experience with Tenda products, with the exception of their U12 USB wifi adapter. That one was really disappointing.

i found the problem with MW3 is that it doesnt have gigabit WAN
that means the input is already limited to 100Mbps
The MW6 has gigabit Ethernet.

The way around it is to buy the set which consists of 1x MW6 and 2x MW3
Or get 3 pack of MW6.

is Tenda AC10U comparable with TPLink C1200 , or better than TPLink C1200 ?

the price is cheap , around RM150+ only...any known issue for this model ?

i just a normal router with better coverage(since got 4 antenna ? ) for daily usage ....any review on it ?

I've got an AC10u to replace my TPLink C1200. I'd say speed has improved slightly (probably due to MU-MIMO) and coverage has improved quite noticeably (because of beamforming, perhaps). So far the AC10U works well. The only problem I've ran into with it is that my old Asus RTN14UHP refuses to work in repeater mode when connected to the AC10u wifi network. Previously with my C1200 the old Asus worked well and setup had no issues as repeater mode.

by coverage do u mean 5ghz or 2.4ghz band? because 2.4ghz band in C1200 is broken by default but fixable

Both bands. The 2.4GHz on my C1200 worked fine btw.

can u check ur AC10u does it have option for channel 13 (2.4ghz) and 80mhz (5ghz)?
because from tenda simulator doesn't have http://simulator.tendacn.com/AC10Uv1/main....ireless-setting
strange that from that website only AC8 can support 80mhz

For my AC10u running on firmware version v15.03.06.56_en, Channel 13 on the 2.4GHz band is a yes. As for your 2nd question, if you're referring to channel width, then 80MHz is selectable.

i thought my C1200 2.4ghz performance not strong enough because tvbox hd channel keep buffering

but turns out that it caused by unifi blocking certain domain

nevertheless im still interested in 6dbi antenna of tenda as i strive to cover my very large home with just a single access point

I just bought my Tenda Nova MW3 recently. Can you elaborate more on how to do this? Now I connected the nova directly to the modem, so I have to remove my existing router in order to make the nova work. I've tried to connect the nova to the router, and it doesn't work. Do you mean I have to disconnect the nova from modem Port1, and then connect the existing router to the modem Port1. Then, connect the nova to router, and set it again as DHCP?

Correct, firstly to set the first unit into port 1 set up as a router. Once successfully done, disconnect it and put into port 2 to setup as an AP.

Looking to purchase Tenda Gigabit Switch SG105, the seller specifically mention that all 5 ports are gigabit speed, so just to double confirm, this is real right?

Looking to connect to unifi router and 2 of my desktop PC (allowing sharing of files through LAN), any other catch that I should know?

I think you have to contact TIME to configure your Tenda Mesh since TIME's router have their own configuration. I found no problem with the Unifi to connect the mesh but found the same problem as you using TIME's router.

I'm currently using a DLINK DIR-842 for my Unifi 100Mbps connection. The place I live in is a double storey house. My 1st PC, Chromecast and Astro downstairs work fine with 5Ghz, getting close to 100Mbps at best and at worst 60Mbps.
Upstairs I'm limited to 2.4Ghz on my 2nd desktop and handphones. On my 2nd PC at best it's 25Mbps and at worst 15Mbps. On my handphones at best 40Mbps and at worst 20Mbps. My issue is towards the night around 10pm till 11pm the connection drops all the way to 2Mbps to constant disconnections. I suspected it someone else was tapping the line or maybe bandwidth is being pulled away from the devices downstairs due to updates. But these were not the case as I was able to get constant 100Mbps via 5Ghz downstairs and the router landing page shows no unknown devices connecting to it. I tested the 2.4Ghz via handphone by standing close to the router and was still getting 2Mbps during this time period. Switching back to 5Ghz brings the speed back to 100Mpbs.

I'm planning to switch to Tenda AC23. My question is would I still end up having issues above with 2.4Ghz?

Lubuntu problem.
https://www.tendacn.com/en/product/support/U6.html
You can't install driver for very old 2.6 kernel to new 5.4 kernel.
find out wifi adapter chipset manufacture. install update latest wifi driver with synaptic (or your favorite software manager).

Guys I just received my tenda MW3 mesh wifi today as I have hard good things about it. However, I have been trying a whole day to set it up and it doesn’t work. Please help me guys I’ve turned my modem off so many times and this error 678 pops up. PS: I only want the mesh wifi to be a bridge and still want my main router to be in use too so I have 2 networks

Instead of PPPoE, choose dynamic IP address during the setup. Then only change to access point mode after setup successfully.

For tenda ac23, with unifi package, is it just select PPPoE and enter username and password obtained from unifi? I tried this but it does not work. Still using TM's az tech router.. sad

There is an option to select ISP during first time setup

Thanks... I saw this video before. But I could not find the same youtube video, and later got myself confuse thinking it maybe was tplink router instead where such option was pre-set and available for choosing. Lol..

My issue is, when I login, the ISP option did not appear. And I bought mine from Ookas not China import. Came with English interface. It just shows all other settings except ISP.

(replying from office so do not have the actual screenshot since router is at home)

How do I get the ISP options to appear?

Done, they Ookas gave me a file to update. Once updated the option appears, BUT please reset to factory setting and then key in unifi details and it all works wonderfully. Thanks all for the wonderful tips. It was stuck, left on the floor for a few days until you guys showed me the tips.

Oh dear. I got mine from Shopee but not from Ookas. Some Negeri Sembilan retailer. Glad mine worked out of the box and glad you managed to get a firmware update to get it running.

I asked Ookas, they say do not share. I think let Ookas handle it. Maybe there will be newer firmware, maybe others bought a different hardware version, maybe later mine is outdated and might cause more harm than help.. anyway, I have the file, but they are telling me not to upload. Mine have... I could set it up as repeater easily or as AP, when I was not able to use it as a replacement router due to my issue above.

But beamforming is not as strong as I have hoped for. So far, only Poco phone gets a strong full bar 5GHz signal upstairs, while my pc, laptop, tablets, other phones, all getting 3 bars or less of 5GHz signal... so others all revert to 2.4GHz. Any ideas guys? Other devices with less capable antennas?

Thinking if I want to use my TM router as repeater instead and chuck it into the ceiling.

ac23 like most other budget router without power amplifier only meant to cover one floor...if it cant even fully cover one floor only then something is wrong...to me the value of tenda (realtek chipset) is the "signal visual quality" it provide compare to mediatek and broadcom when use in tvbox and 3d gaming...faster and more responsive does not necessary mean better visual quality in the case of my mediatek chipset router

i try to upgrade from AC18 to AC23.... but i feel that AC18 performance is better in terms of stability and download speed(WIFI 5GHz) also can reach higher compare to AC23. signal coverage is just about the same. very dissapointed, thought spec is higher

Wan 1 - 300mb ( Maxis )
Wan 2 - 300mb ( Unifi )
Wan 3 - 300mb ( Unifi )

But running speed test only get 280-300 range instead of combination of 300mb x3.

Should at least get 800mb right ? confused.gif

Hope someone can help. thanks alot notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

That speed test is correct for a load balancer. if u want 300mb x3, you will need a multiplexer instead.

Anyone here using Tenda wifi adapter U12? I had some weird issues today. It couldn't connect to my 5Ghz signal despite always connecting prior to this. After performing release and renew via command prompt I could connect but speed was 10 times slower(from 100Mbps to 10Mbps). My Note 8 had no issues connecting to the 5Ghz signal and speed was at 100Mbps.
When I connected to 2.4Ghz, I was getting about 50Mbps. After awhile I switched back to 5Ghz and speeds were back to normal.

Anyone came across this issue?

im now using ac23 china unit which purchased during 11.11 (not much discount but turn out to be a right decision)

i didnt choose msia unit coz the english edition comes with alexa (tenda website doesnt state it but from amazon can know it support alexa) and also i prefer the firmware support for china unit

use it together with rtl8812bu mu-mimo usb adapter in windows 7 it is able to achieve ultra low latency performance for csgo gaming

one issue encountered was when using a mediatek router as repeater somehow would cause the ac23 visual quality and performance to become bad (maybe something to do with repeater or mu-mimo compatibility), change the repeater to tenda-realtek ac1200 and everything becomes smooth

a 4x4 router such as ac23 generally will be more ideal to serve multiple users

ax50 (2x2) is more meant to be "ad hoc AP" (turn on when needed) extension to main router for low latency gaming purpose with ax200 adapter

Now ur main repeater is ac23 or tenda ac1200 ?

I own ac23 eng ver n pair with old tplink with ddwrt as AP via LAN cable
Dunno why my ac23 will disconnect its wifi for about 5sec before resume back.
Happened interval about every 2-3hrs.
I noticed it coz i wfh n always ping to google dns non stop
So i suspect this ac23 not ngam with that tplink
Maybe tenda only works with tenda

A bit disappointed lately. After using 2-3 months, now it seems the performance has dropped a lot. After replacing unifi's own router, I could use 5G upstairs in all rooms. Now it is only 1 bar. So now I use the tm's aztech downstairs and use AC23 as a repeater upstairs.

i'm using ac23 as my primary 5g, ac23's 2.4g is also very good but since i have a better 2.4g router i will use it, it also works to compensate for ac23's bad lan port performance
i think the most important thing is the router placement location because i find that ac23 does not work very well when placed on same floor as PC
i always believed in placing the router at middle of staircase so it has been fine for me
the device link speed will be lower but there is little impact and little difference in actual usage and for 100mbps line is not a problem
i have openwrt softrouter to shape traffic i even think 100mbps broadband will remain relevant for many more years
i see that people say tenda ac18 can reach higher on speedtest but response speed (processor speed) is much more important to me than speed ceiling (wifi chipset capability)
redmi ax6 (good value) will bring faster 5g to my setup but to support it i need to replace my softrouter and probably also desktop adapter, no urgency as i can fallback to cable if i need the speed

here's the comparison of my experience with the most common wifi 5 chipset hardware

AC23
(+) able to use cat8 cable on wan port
(+) better visual quality (than 3x3 TP1900 which has faster processor) when loading youtube, twitch live streaming able to maintain highres on auto
(+) combine with rtl8812bu usb adapter (realtek chipset router-adapter combination) seems to produce better latency performance in gaming
(-) lan port performance worst among the 3 (using cat7 cable suspect can overcome by using cat5e/cat6 but did not test extensively)
(-) if router is placed on same floor as client performance isn't good and can't really feel the speed ac23 seems to be tuned for long range

D191G (TP1900 solution same as Archer C80)
(+) 1.2ghz processor makes it the fastest in terms of responsiveness
(+) fastest 2.4g among the 3 because of fast processor and 2.4g is 3x3
(+) decent lan port performance but dir882 is still better by quite a bit
(-) seems that 3x3 5g is still not good enough for watching twitch live stream need a 4x4
(-) using cat8 cable will cause visual corruption seems it works best with cat5e

DIR-882 (MT7621+7615 solution)
(+) best lan port performance among the 3 for gaming
(+) support dfs channels
(+) can install openwrt
(-) slow processor single core speed makes everything feel slow
(-) game graphics look uglier due to the slow processor
(-) once openwrt is installed lose the ethernet performance advantage (qos conflict with hwnat)
(-) open source wifi driver also a little weaker than stock
(-) ugreen cat8 24awg cable causes visual corruption but vention cat8 28awg seems fine

Any tenda sifu here can help.

Tenda router setup page says "No response from the remote server. Please check whether your computer can access the internet directly using your Mode. If no, contact your ISP for help.

Modem - UNIFI technician came and check, said no issue
Router - I sent to shop, no issue also

Tried to upgrade firmware, but can't find the proper firmware. Currently using V15.03.06.56_en.

I just got myself an AC23 2 days back and set it up. Unfortunately, all the "wall killing" and extra long range wasn't the case. Comparing with my old DLink 868-L, the older DLink performed much better in terms of max 5GHz and similar performance in terms of range. This is especially surprising considering that the 868-L only has internal antenna vs AC23 which has 7 huge external antenna.

Anyone experienced the same thing as I have?

P/S: It is a Malaysia set with the latest firmware installed.

i already said i value response speed much more than speedtest result as my line is only 100mbps

dir868l with 800mhz processor would feel too sluggish for me...those i feel is for people who have no serious internet uses

even ac23 with 1ghz processor is the minimum acceptable these days as wifi 6 now all come with much higher

just as i was going to order a cat6 cable for testing (ac23 lan port performance issue)...suddenly the issue seems to be no more

still not sure what is the actual cause...compare to previous the only thing changed was the "wireless anti-interference" setting (now set to default auto instead of disabled)...lazy to investigate further

so now i can do everything in ac23...lan port for gaming is fine and the 2x3 antenna of 2.4g is also very strong and capable...single AP to cover whole house is elegant solution me feels

That's awesome! Are you able to still receive AC23 signal outside of your house? I still believe my unit is faulty unit as the range is worse or equal to the dated 868L. After contacting customer service, I was ask to check firmware, transmit power etc and finally asked to just get a repeater/extender if I want better range.

someone here mentioned ac23 and ac18 have similar range...since 868l have same chipset as ac18 they should be around the same...it should be enough to cover double storey terrace house including garden but my home larger than that it barely just enough

Incorrect. 868L have internal antennas while ac18 is external. I have tested both units and coverage wise, ac18 is much better.

yea i always thought internal antennas are weaker but since acwifi.net seems to imply there is no difference (in the latest wifi6 model and also some wifi5) i still thought it is possible

Yes exactly my point, it's almost impossible for the AC23 to lose to the 868L. Which leads me to believe that my unit is faulty. This assumption is also made based on the various reviews and tests done by others shared on YouTube.

Hi I just bought a Tenda AC23 and I could not connect it to internet.

I tried setting up my PPPOE connection, but it kept saying "no response from remote server..."

I have checked with Unifi to confirm that my PPPOE username and password are both correct.

I have also restart both the AC23 router and modem multiple times, but still not working.

Anyone could help? Thanks!!

1. first your firmware is English menu? Buying ac23 from China?
2. Do the firmware got preloaded profile for unifi?
3. Unifi needs vlan 500 for Internet to work? If there is no option for this then you cannot use for unifi. Only time fiber that doesn't need vlan

I do have experience buying 2 units from China ac23
One China firmware with no unifi profile. Another one with English firmware with Unifi profile that support unifi vlan 500

if there is preloaded firmware, there should be a ISP type : drop down menu maxis/unifi/time above/below pppoe
make sure your unifi username & password is correct
if you copy the password, just make sure the last character no space at the back

Yeap, there is drop down selection for maxis/unifi/time above/below pppoe.

I have also just try the username and password again to have no space. I have also called Unifi twice to confirm that my username and password are correct.

Do you recommend to update the firmware from the link that you have just shared?

Thanks for your help bro!! Means a lot cos I need the ac23 to WFH.

the username & password confirm works on old router?
please check if there is any VLAN 500 selected for Unifi fiber connection

normally upgrade router when there is fix/new feature. for your case best is to upgrade firmware.

Hi all, I just got an unlimited maxis home broadband.
Using some old zte 4g modem right now, looking for a better replacement.
I'm eyeing the Tenda 4G680 model, can't seem to find a proper review for it.
Does anyone here recommend this or is there a better one?
I'm looking for a modem with CA or has manual band selection.

Hi all.
Would like to know if the Tenda AC23, an AC2100 router suitable for using as an WiFi Extender.
My house is using Maxis 300/50 Mbps plan, and I want to extend the 5Ghz signal.
Should this router maintain the 300/50 Mbps speed, since it is a triband router.

Another recommended setup would be if I replace this router, and bought 2 or 3 units to setup as mesh. Strongly just maintain the 5Ghz, 866Mbps + 866Mbps 4x4 MIMO, would this become a cheap solution as mesh WiFi?

Hi, I believe the AC23 is a Dual Band router. It has a wireless repeater mode which you can setup to help you extend your 5GHz coverage. But it would depend on the size of your house, no of walls etc which may affect the performance. But do try it out and let us know how it works for you. Cheers!

Then how about the WiFi bandwidth for 5Ghz?
Let say now the Maxis provided is a TP-Link ac1200 router, fiber internet speed is 300/50Mbps, I use the repeater mode to repeat the 5Ghz WiFi signal.
As this Tenda AC23 has 2 866Mbps, 866 + 866 = 1733Mbps at 5Ghz, 4x4MIMO, would the repeater speed can still maintain at least 866Mbps of true internet speed?
Or this Tenda AC23 when repeat 5Ghz WiFi will only repeat the ac1200 speed, that is the 2x2MIMO 866Mbps speed

Hi..
If I want to set AC23 as a repeater, can I use a router such as D-Link DIR-825 as the main router?

I am now using AC23 as the main router, and tried to use my old router ASUS RT-N14UHP as repeater but didn't work. ASUS can get connected to AC23 but no internet detected on ASUS. Not too sure what is the main cause but this is also experienced by others.

Thanks.

Thanks.
*
My experience with TP-Link router to set as extender, is to disable DHCP, also set the DNS/gateway to the main router IP address.
Of course, also need to manually assign TP-Link router IP address to another IP address that does not clash with the main router, then the extender works without issue.
So, don't know if your ASUS router need to manually do these.

oh.... might need to do these cos the asus router is on different set of IP address. Thanks!

My unit of Tenda AC23 just arrived yesterday.
Well, really similar to the words claim, this router despite being cheap, and claim to be a AC2100 WiFi router, is nothing special actually.

My unit is english version, and comes with Unifi/Maxis selectable ISP option.
I use it just as a wireless repeat/extender for upstairs, mainly extend the 5Ghz signal and the performance is so so only, speed same as any AC1200 router.
So, everything is easy to setup via smartphone via the web UI, and I am able to setup all properly without using laptop, well... hard reset few time.

So, the beam forming doesn't force to combine both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signal, and it is true that turn off beam forming making the speed test faster and more stable.

Most importantly, despite it has 4x4 MIMO, it doesn't use it for full potential, let say using 2x2 of the MIMO antenna to collect upstream router signal to retain 866Mbps speed, and do transmission using another 2x2 dedicated MIMO.
End up, the speed test on a 300Mbps fiber plan is only getting around half speed at upstairs, which previously with only the ISP provided TP Link Archer C5V router, the 5Ghz signal and 2.4Ghz signal always not stable.

Well, I think it is worth it's price as a 5Ghz WiFi repeater, since a decent branded ac1200 repeater also is sold around this price.

So now comes the question, if I have 2 units of Tenda AC23, one installed to the WAN as the main modem/router/WiFi, another one use as wireless repeater, will the 5Ghz repeater will become faster, where the linking between the 2 Tenda AC23 unit will use 866 + 866 = 1733Mbps speed to forward upstream router packet?

I know if I plug in Ethernet cable to use it as Access Point (AP mode) will solve the WiFi speed issue, will get 300/50 Mbps, but I really wonder if I want to do this entirely wirelessly, does 2 unit of Tenda AC23 can make the difference?

you use ac23 as wireless repeat/extender, the speed will be automatic cut into half
always go for Mesh solution if your house is 2 floors unless one powerful single router in the middle if staircase then can cover all

Because I check online, mesh system also cut speed in half, and it is not cut in term of the ISP speed, it is cut based on the WiFi speed.
I think now this repeater/extender already do the job to maintain the speed at least max around 160 Mbps for 5Ghz, which already considered good, other speed cut maybe due to the wall penetration issue.
So, my point is because the speed cut is due to 866 Mbps/4, then now if I have 2 Tenda AC23 that operate at 1733 Mbps, if let say divide by 4, would I get at least 300 Mbps?
I check online that not much on this kind of test, and mostly the mesh system speed test is on the lower ISP speed, 30 Mbps/50Mbps, which doesn't prove if can get 300 Mbps on all the mesh node on mesh system.

for example: my current ISP is unifi 100mbps. Using AC2100 router and N300 repeater.

I'm only getting 20mbps from the repeater.

I think mesh won't cut speed.
Wifi extender/repeater will because it has its own ssid, to receive & broadcast, speed will cut into half

Do check this video, when connecting between wireless access point of the mesh, that is from mesh to mesh unit wirelessly, the speed still cut in half, unless using the very high end mesh, the speed still drop.

Use the max WiFi speed divide by 7 and you will get around the theoretical speed.
Let say now you upgrade to AC1200 repeater, you should get 866/7=123 Mbps.
So, upgrade to AC1200 repeater and repeat the 5Ghz signal of 866 Mbps would solve your issue. You can buy another Tenda AC23 to set as repeater as well, since a branded AC1200 repeater also is around the same price as Tenda AC23, or can buy cheaper AC1200 router to set it as repeater.
Now the unknown question is if 2 Tenda AC23 would connect at 1733 Mbps, that would result in 1733 Mbps/7 = 247 Mbps.

So, regarding your N300 only getting around 20 Mbps of speed, it is because normally N300 repeat the 2.4Ghz signal at 144 Mbps speed.
So, 144 Mbps/7 = 20.57 Mbps, so you are getting the expected speed.

If you upgrade to AC1200 repeater, then you can repeat the 5Ghz 866 Mbps signal, and the repeater can transmit at 2.4Ghz signal too, and the internet speed is actually close to 80 Mbps for the 2.4Ghz signal on repeater.

After viewing many reviews, I come to conclusion that mesh WiFi is a more advance WiFi/Router/Modem system that has built in WiFi repeater/extender function where you can add the similar unit of mesh unit easily and it will automatically become a repeater, and share the same SSID.
What you means by not cutting speed on mesh WiFi is when the device is connected to the first main mesh unit, then only that can get full WiFi internet speed, just like connecting device to the ISP provided main router.

So, if my device now is connecting to the second node of the mesh, the internet speed still cut in half, due to the signal is being repeated wirelessly.

If let say now my house is very big, I got 3 mesh nodes, and if I connected to the farthest mesh node, my internet speed will be much slower.

To solve this problem, my only choice is using the wired solution to wired each mesh unit with wired backhaul, which I can also do with normal router/repeater where I make the router as a wired WIFi access point.

I understand nowadays, all people want to get rid of wire, but the current wireless solution is still not yet perfect, even mesh WiFi system is not a perfect solution compared to wired backhaul WiFi.

just got an AC1200 Tototlink extender to connect to my AC23 router at downstairs. Now i could get around 50-70mbps in my room. pretty impressive!
my totolink (1st floor) and ac23 (ground floor) are situated at the front part of the house. and my room is at the back part of the house.. i'm satisfied with this solution!

Actually just researched that there is a better deal from D-Link where the router and the repeater unit support mesh, and is also AC2000.
Suppose is better than TP-Link DECO M4 for around the same price.

Hi, anyone uses AC23 with TIME fiber 500mbps?

*
Your current TIME provided router is what model?

Suppose the router provided by TIME can also reach 500Mbps and you no need to change anything.
In case you tested that you cannot reach 500Mbps, it can be one of the following:

1. Your smartphone and laptop itself is the problem. Also the LAN cable.

You must only connect to 5Ghz WiFi to enjoy the 500Mbps, the 2.4Ghz WiFi simply cannot support up to 500Mbps, not even can reach also 100Mbps.
Then, not all smartphone 5Ghz WiFi can reach 500Mbps, many of the mid range and entry level smartphone 5Ghz WiFi only can reach about 200Mbps++ on real throughput, where their WiFi antenna is 1x1 MU-MIMO,
and it is even worst on 2.4Ghz WiFi, where may only can reach 40 - 50Mbps.
Then, others will be your smartphone WiFi reception issue where when you are not close to the router, your WiFi signal drop, and speed also drop.
Then, on LAN, make sure your cable is Cat 5E or Cat 6 or above, make sure your LAN speed is 1Gbps, then only you can get 500Mbps speed.

2. Your house issue.
Please don't think that WiFi is very good in penetrate wall. If your house has thick wall, then also has many electrical interference, you won't get good signal and good speed if you are behind the wall, such as in other room.

So, to answer your question, this Tenda AC23 of course support 500Mbps, even your TIME provided router is supported, no different for WiFi 5Ghz and LAN.
The only thing different would be the range, penetration, and the speed of the router if too many device connected to the router.

My experience on both performance is almost the same, but seems the TIME provided TP-Link router seems to perform a little bit better.

So, depend on your condition, you might want to look for mesh WiFi rather than want to replace the TIME provided router, where this low end Tenda AC23 might not make any improvement to your current WiFi performance.

If TP-Link EC-230G1 also cannot, then I don't think Tenda AC23 can.
For full 500Mbps, unless your device support WiFi 6, else cannot fully reach 500Mbps.

Then, for LAN cat5e, suppose can reach 500Mbps, else would be the fiber line problem. But you cannot complain, since it is still within the specs, maybe drop 10%.

My unifi is 300mbps.
At ground floor my connection/download speed can reach 300mbps.

But at second floor only 110 mbps.
If i use "TENDA A15 Dual Band 5Ghz+2.4GHz AC750 Wireless WiFi Extender" can i reach near to 300mbps?
Thanks

AC18 is already offering a good range.
AC23 is worst than AC18 in term of hardware.

For 3rd floor, personally I will look for mesh wifi solution if you don't want any cabling/wall hacking.

Of coz if location is straight forward , I prefer to pull a Lan cable to bridge the mesh router.

Hi all Tenda sifu,

I have a 5G CPE modem, can I pull a LAN cable to connect it to TX9, and set up TX9 as my main wireless AP ?

I read spec-sheet that TX9 is double the speed of say like TX2. Then I read this posts most of you are using the AC1200 series, what is the main difference ?

AC18 is already offering a good range.
AC23 is worst than AC18 in term of hardware.

For 3rd floor, personally I will look for mesh wifi solution if you don't want any cabling/wall hacking.

Of coz if location is straight forward , I prefer to pull a Lan cable to bridge the mesh router.

ac18 i like it. ac23 reduce wifi power ? or routing processor.
i put each router at different office, so far client only praises satisfy no complainz

I think mesh won't cut speed.
Wifi extender/repeater will because it has its own ssid
Nope. Only tri-band/quad-band MESH system doesn't cut speed because it uses it's own 5GHz/6GHz band
Dual-band MESH system still cuts speed because it uses the same 5GHz band for the connectivity with all MESH devices and your personal devices

Thanks for the info. Was waiting for advice but at the end I went for Xiaomi AX1800, as my requirement is quite basic and the existing router at home is Xiaomi 4A so it works better together.

The 5gz coverage is not so great for the newer Xiaomi AX1800, it is better on the older Xiaomi 4A gigabit router, strange thing. But anyhow I enable the smart mode and wifi 6 on the AX1800 router, so far so good for the ground floor of my house (about 24x 50ft where the router is near to my TV at living room).

My 5G modem (Yeacomm) placed on 1st floor, whereby the big side windows is giving me strong 5G signal.

Then the Mi 4A giga router at 2nd floor supporting to the 2 rooms there and can reach the toilet tongue.gif

Both Xiaomi routers are used as wireless repeater of my 5G modem, using same AP name. So phone can switch connection from ground floor to 1st to 2nd floor.

Anyone having issues like mine? Tenda TX3 will hang up, whenever connected to my new Realtek RZ616 wifi adapter on MSI B650M gaming wifi. If I use Asus AC59U, seems no issue on 5GHz band. But once I used RZ616 to connect to TX3, the router will hang up for no reason...even RMA'ed a new router/tried different RZ616 drivers from other mobo makers Asus/MSI didn't resolves the issue...

this is then more likely the firmware of Tenda that is causing the compatibility issues with your wifi adapter. And since TX3 is already out of development, highly unlikely you will get any support from Tenda to fix out those bugs. But you may try contacting Tenda support.

Hmm, the AMD RZ616 is a rebranded Mediatek chip actually

I would suggest maybe looking into replacing it with an Intel AX200/AX210 that is better ( do not get AX201/AX211)
Intel cards are still better than the Mediatek / Realtek ones

yes, the wifi module built into the motherboard is replaceable, guides are out there online
it's a hidden M.2 slot basically

Yeah thought about this too..just wondering if TX12 Pro will also have these issues or not before pulling the trigger.

Tenda is really value for money, but the simplicity of the UI is too bare. Get something with more settings like Asus or Tp Link...these 2 won't go wrong.

Before I upgraded my devices, I had a tenda ac10u, bought below RM90, sold back used at around RM70 after almost 4 years.

Tenda is a real tanker, but their UI if not worse, couldn't be better than Dlink. even their latest WiFi 6, I see has not much of a function and their app ui is not really comprehensive.

But is truly worth while for your money.

Don't think the China and International models can even link together.

China got their own set of WiFi rules that operate at much lower transmit power and they dont support certain WiFi channels

My advise, better exchange it for another localized version. Or better yet, get another brand mesh.. Tenda basic mesh only support protocol k/v, missing /r/.

You will need "r" in the long run for your devices to roam efficiently though in the end is still device dependent, but having protocol R will definitely help things up.
