hmm, i take it your wii no warranty already.

well if i am u my options are:
1. Clean the head using a wii disk cleaner which u can get from shops (maybe that will do d trick)
2. diy

3. send to shop like i think playtime in bangsar provide that service.

sakae, u have a modded wii, so to solve your issues u need
1. to NOT be ignorant and DIY fix
2. get a shop to help u, with a fee
3. buy another wii to replace your korean.

there is only 3 solutions. solution 2 and 3 u can remain ignorant about everything u discussed here.

playtime in bangsar can do that for u. i heard from kyo bernard....but not sure about that. yeah, depending on finance minister is difficult. that's y i manage the 'not very petty' petty cash account, not her.

my korean wii needs to modded so that it can play 'common games', else its korean games which are a rarity here.
1. yes, korean wii must be modded. a korean wii is pretty useles if it is not modded.

a modded korean wii can play both original & pirate games but cannot go online. (btw, why do i need to go online?)
2. korean wii can play both original & pirate. put it this way, if an original can't play, the pirate version also can't play. can go online, but with some thinkering. u go online so that u don't just play with the white box only, but with real humans. now, the humans u encounter here are thougher to play with coz they r not so predictable, and seem to be super human when playing with them.

thus there is no need to unmod the korean wii.
3. as in point 1, u can't unmod a korean wii. but if u want to buy another new unmodded US wii, only your financial controller and yourself can stop u.

however, since its modded, it may have settings issues.
4. yes, modded have setting and non-setting issues. nearly nothing that can't be solve. but its a hassle to solve it. like what u are experiencing now. hassle isn't it?

now this part i don't understand.. the settings issue, is it confined to both original and pirated games or just to pirated games?
5. as in point 2. it doesn't matter if u buy original or pirate, u will encounter the same issues just the same if your wii is modded.

i read there are future software upgrades, how do i upgrade these?
6. yes, there are future upgrades, but don't upgrade it through nintendo (which is the standard way of updating). instead u must use the non-standard way, but since u not a diy guy, ask the shop to do it.

lastly, what am i missing using a modded korean wii compared to a virgin US wii running original software?
7. think its obvious what u missing. to put it simple, u play with modded, it comes with hassles. u play original, no hassle - as in none at all.

i tot i would be having fun receiving a wii but it ain't a bed of roses thus far.
8. that is why i am piss of with the wii scenario nowadays. coz to own a wii, u practically have to be a software engineer. and the market out there don't give u much of a choice. not everybody likes to be hassled, and there are many many people like u and me that prefer to be original than to be hassled. now, there r issues too with original wii - coz u will have some problems getting games from brick and mortar shops, u need to source it here in lyn instead. small problem but still a problem.

9. the choice is yours actually. i don't try to influence u to support original. but i like u to be informed, coz many out there are not informed to make a choice before buying.

so from what you wrote, i assume i could
1) leave my modded wii alone
i thought u told me u have problems running both games. so leaving your wii alone won't help. however if the games do run perfectly. then yes do leave it alone as u not playing any other games
2) buy the original wii sports resorts & wii sports (if there is a standalone original copy for sale somewhere)
yes. i am not suppose to advice u any other way on this site, but u get my drift, i guess.
3) just install software from the disc and get on with life
wait. i don't really know what u really mean by this. i forgot to mention. on your korean wii never install anything from disc. never. if u mean play software from disc than no issue. but if u mean install as in doing a system update, then don't! else no more wii.

but would wii sports & wii sports resorts be using the same settings? or must i tinker with settings?
is really hard to give u a blanket instruction that fits all cases. put it this way, if your game runs perfectly then do nothing. else u will need to fix it, as what i mentioned previously

do u realise the more info u read the more confuse u get. so i make it simple, buy US set. u wanna buy it then mod it or buy it modded is up to u. but don't buy korean
2. is hard to get in penang anything but korean set. so to buy us set u must get lucky, or buy from lyn (its not so hidden). a brand new one is about rm9XX.

is hard to say. it could just mean u need to update your wii. but if u know its not modified, go ahead no harm. after that your channels will work. but if you wii is modifed, then its a long story, which i think i have mentioned in previous pages aplenty. but let me simplify - don't update.

all original can play on modded wii. u just need the right setup. and, modded wii is not like modded ps2

there's a fine line between modded talk and piracy talk. i guess the moderators here just treat those grey areas as piracy talk. from my experience if u write in a way u don't support modded your post won't be removed. so u just need to word it correctly. for example "all original can play on modded wii. u just need the right setup. and, modded wii is not like modded ps2". see - u notice the last sentence is saying modded sucks whereas the 1st 2 sentences is saying modded ftw.

ok. so back to modded talk, but in a way that is not supporting it - some people don't mind d hassled so they can mod all they want and are happy with it. but some don't even want to be hassled and yet they bought a modded console. they either underestimated the hassle, or not aware. for these people i like them to be aware and educated through these forums

ok ok. serius quesiton: the wii themes mr c fu, has your wii need to be modded to install it? whatever is it modding my machine is out of d question. i like virigins.....

i prefer when turn on my wii it ask for login before u play your game, then when its my daughter's turn i prefer to quit the game and relogin again. that should be the way.

i think is best you google this answer. use keyword "Modded wii vs original wii". the original wii can't play on hardisk . the pros and cons of using hardisk is the same as a modded wii. is not all a bed of roses. but it has its benefits.

but phoenixbyte, he ask difference between hardisk and cd-rom. homebrew if i not mistaken cannot play on cd-rom. so it means he is asking about playing the clear throat games. ha!
