before that u need to know ur budget and your preference like durability or beauty?

if budget was not a concern:
-durability go for concrete top but forget about beauty, if combined two then go for concrete top + granite (the cost is HUGE  shocking.gif )

nowadays lesser ppl go for HPL already, so called outdated liau lah ..... normal one also used solid surface. solid surface price can be vary from RM 90- RM 300pfr also got but need to be careful on this S/Surface coz the cheaper versions is imported from china one u knowlah hah .....too technical to tell but basically is low standards.

Granite depends on the type of stones, do have quality/grade also ..... ask relliable stone shops they can tell the different.

Hi all,
My contractor advised to build a concrete floor with height around 3" as a base for KC. The purpose is to prevent the wood being spoiled when mopping the floor, etc. Btw, I m not building concrete top for the KC. It is advisable to do so?

It will depend on your usage. If you do your chopping (I mean chicken, etc) on top of the KC, then better to concrete top for the KC. Solid surface looks nice and also the joints are not visible. But not able to withstand heavy chopping, etc.
As for the 3" plinth at the base, do that if you are having a concrete top. Else if you are having solid surface, the KC supplier will be able to provide the necessary "water resistance board (non timber)" which also serves the same purpose against the dampness from mopping.

Thanks wrb7878 & cwhong for your feedback...

I've gone thru the reno journey of adrian, phoenix, weikee, it seems like they all build concrete kitchen top with tiles. Besides cheaper, is there any particular reason to choose tiles?

No need lah. As long there is a rubber sleeve along the wood, that is good enough.

ur tiles means concrete top with tiles? it's obviously more durable maybe as long as u no renovate the kitchen the concrete top will be the to serve u smile.gif it will save ur $$$ in the long run maybe u can retiles back without have to dismantle the concrete top..... only change tiles also can, u knowlah out of trend liau mah ..... nod.gif kids may not like it ..... u can even install granite on top of ur tiles if u feels is outdated already after few years ..... see? very flexible right?

I can say they are the same person. Weird, last time there was someone trying to sabo me as well. A forumer found out and reported to admin, admin suspended his fake and main account. However, his main account got activated back after a few days, the reason he gave was "My, brother was using my account, we share the same laptop" Same reason.....

Yes you can post how cheap you can offer online but there is no guarantee you wont slaughter the customers back in another way to bring the profit up. For example kitchen sinks, some seller sell the waste separately while it should b free with the sink. Johnson Suisse, some ppl give cheap china seat covers worth RM 10-20 only instead of original Johnson Seat cover.

Just my advise to members, steve, erny, elegance and etc those few main and reputable KC here, if you feel their price is cheaper from other shops outside and you feel comfortable to deal with them den just confirm the deal, you can get someone cheaper than them but there is a risk of getting poor quality, poor workmanship or etc. Their price and quality are proven here by many forumers, why still seek for other KC?
