Ron Howard took a lot of liberties when it comes to adapting it to film. I wanted to see Langdon's mansion of a home, and the slow print of the Illuminati symbol he will receive from a fax, NOT while he was swimming in the pool at Harvard from an unknown Vatican oficer.

More gripes:-

Book: Robert Langdon receive the fax, accepted the invitation to go to Switzerland to CERN on the experimental airplane prototype, which reaches Switzerland from the US in less than a hour.

Movie: Robert Langdon receives a piece of paper from an unknown Vatican officer, immediately moves to Switzerland, specifically CERN, more specifically the Large Hadron Collider. Yes, it is THAT boring in the movie.

Book: Vittoria Vetra loses her father, who was a man of the cloth, and also a researcher who found the antimatter while investigating the God's Particle. She is distraught, and emotionally broken.

Movie: Vittoria Vetra loses a close colleague, who happens to be a priest who also believes in science. Already from this you would see that she would not be emotionally invested in losing just a friend instead of her father in the book. Boo!

Book: Leonardo Vetra, Vittoria's father, has a significantly poignant moment when he realises his life is about to end by the hands of the Hashashin. Before he gets his eye ripped out of his eye socket and used to enter the chamber where the antimatter device is located.

Movie: A fellow researcher, supposedly Vittoria's close friend, got replaced in place of his father in the book. His eye still get ripped out, but everything else is missing. The researcher's death is gory yes, but not emotional like in the book.

the Camerlengo rushes out to the helicopter, pilot it himself and put it on autopilot before ejected out before the antimatter device explodes above St. Peter's Basilica. In the book, there are conversations between Langdon and the Camerlengo, where Langdon first gets his suspicion realised on what the Camerlengo's real intention is. In the book, they both were on the helicopter, with the Camerlengo abandoning Langdon to die as there's only one parachute, while the battery meter ticks away on the antimatter device. Langdon jumps off the helicopter just as the antimatter explodes, and was saved by falling into the Tiber River while the Camerlengo floats to the top of St.Peter's Basilica looking like an angel dropping from the sky, not to mention a hero for saving Vatican City.

In the movie? The Camerlengo alone pilots the helicopter, not intense exchange of dialogue as per the book between him and Langdon, coz Langdon is not in the helicopter with him! WTF! The explosion looks awesome anyway, almost nuclear in nature, but it fails in generating that plottwist conversatin between the Camerlengo and Langdon, before Langdon reveals his plot later to the Conclave.
