QUOTE(zellleonhart @ May 29 2009, 12:12 PM)
Indeed very bulky. i am a D40+ Di622 user. When you sling the D40 mounted wih di622 on your neck the di622 which is heavy will make the whole camera points downwards, which is kinda weird and bulky. The lens is pointing downwards instead of forward =.=
But performance wise Di622 serves me well, I haven't tried Sb600, because I can't afford it and I don't have friends who own it...
*
I'm using SB-600. Actually SB-600 also make D60 points downward. But not sure whether SB-600 or Nissin di622 is bulkier.

I think Di622 bulkier. It doesn't match the look of D40! Hmm maybe later i post a picture here, but not now, cuz I already packed my camera bag and i am going out later.. Lazy take out..
*
I'll also post a pic of D60 plus SB-600 to compare with zelleon Nissin

Here's D60 with SB-600
My handphone camera sucks
Looks like Nissin is much more bulky than SB-600

I also think D60/D40 is not suitable for battery grip. It's built for light weight, as what I like bout D60

do adding vertical grip increase stability n photo quality significantly?
maybe Nikon dont come out grips for entry level dslr cos most likely beginners dun nid it?
*
Stability yes but battery grip will not affect the photo quality

But some people invest more in lenses and accessories rather than the camera body! They should release battery grips for D40/x And D60!!
Cuz..
Im using D40 also T_T
Phottix brand got battery grip for D40?
*
Phottix got battery grip for D40. It's the same with D60

i mean stability affects the outcome photo rite?
*
battery grip will give u more stability, and less blur if ur hand not stable.
VR lens should be enough to reduce blur.
If u feel comfortable with battery grip and can reduce hand shake, then no harm to get one

can someone clarify please?
*
50mm f1.4 cost almost double compared with 35mm f1.8

There are a few samples a few pages back.... anyway focal length is only one of the factors. The diaphragm blades and the f-stop are other factors that affect the bokeh. My suggestion is that if you have the budget to go for the 50mm f1.4... you test out the Sigma one first then only test the Nikons then only decide which one you are comfortable with.

There's Sigma 30mm f/1.4 which can be tried out

QUOTE(kevyeoh @ May 31 2009, 12:15 PM)
ok guys... i'm like a few days old into this whole DSLR thingie and i just read the user guide for D40 from kenrockwell's website...basically i've tried applying all the basic settings that he recommends...

so here's some pics taken and i wanna ask, how come my pics all appear dark? i have SB600 and i tried pointing it to the ceiling to bounce...but then doesn't seem to have any impact at all on the subject...

in fact...i have to use image editing software to edit the brightness and contrast....

attached are some pics showing the original pic taken using my d40 and the ones edited via software....

p/s...i notice that if i want bright pics....i have to use manual mode...and then try to adjust my shutter speed around 10-15... and then the aperture i just try to use the lowest that i can...but when i try to zoom...the smallest aperture size available gets bigger than normal...

so how do i capture great pics of my baby daughter?
smile.gif

appreciate inputs from all d40 users out there....  btw...the reason i bought my SB-600 is becoz i hope to be able to bounce the flash and not directly take my pics through direct flash...if i have wanted direct flash...i would have use the normal point and shoot....

thanks again....

The aperture and ISO settings will affect the flash exposure, so better share the settings of the camera

thought of getting the 18-200VR for wedding shots. but a lot of people recommend me to get the tamron 1750 f2.8. glad i did.

for close up pics, f2.8 is fine, but for normal portrait wedding shots, the sharpest pic u can get with this lens is at f4-f5.6.

but one thing about it though, comparing it against my friend's nikon 18-55 & tamron 70-300 and my previously owned nikon 55-200VR, you will notice that it weighs a lot...man is it heavy.
*
Agree with the last statement. It's really heavy for a 17-55mm lens

He's indeed using the SB-600 to shoot. Only problem is the pics still underexposed
