Today run several tests with my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. Many ppl said this lens is very soft at the widest aperture. I decided to do a test myself to judge this statement.
Setup:
1.My setup is Nikon D60 with Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 with built in motor.
2.The camera is mounted on a tripod and the lens is set to manual focus to avoid any AF bias.
3.I trigger the shutter by using remote control to avoid any vibration which can cause softness.
4.In between each release, I wait for 5 seconds to wait the vibration of the camera body to settle off after I turn the dial to change the aperture.
5.I shoot 2 different objects to increase the accuracy of my test.
6.All images are shot in JPEG fine format Large size @50mm focal length

Hope can assist those who are interested in this lens flex.gif

My conclusion: This lens if little bit soft at widest however cant be differentiated clearly by normal viewing. And I think at f/2.8, it's still very satisfying me. After stopping down, the image becomes sharper which sharpest at f/5.6. Although I think can't really differentiate between f/4.5 to f/5.6.

For those who has PDA with infrared port, there's a way to use it as remote control to trigger shutter release as Nikon ML-L3. Those interested can PM me for details.

Is there any shop selling in small amount? I dont need one whole box... that's too many for me. I need like 10 packets....

or should i just buy the electronic moisture absorber from Shashinki.com?
link: http://shashinki.com/shop/wonderful-electr...20g-p-2853.html

I cant afford a dry box man...
*
I guess the moisture absorber from Shashinki is more reliable

This photo was taken in WuZhen 乌镇 China. I was surprised by the old fashion alcohol container which previously I only saw on television.

This is an ancient alcohol making factory and the markings on containers really can tell the ages...

i've incorporated D5000 in this thread since they share same specs as non-built-in motor model and D5000 is considered as the "upper entry level DSLR" for Nikon. D5000 users please report in!!

Wow... integrated liao... me still classified as "future owner" as I'm still saving up... torn between the D5000 and the D90. My budget leans more towards the D5000, and I love it's rotating screen cos I like taking odd angles... only sad part is the lack of battery grip and pentaprism, which I wonder how much diff wud it make. I did stumble upon a shop which claims to have 3rd party batt pack for the D5000 tho...
*
i guess there will be battery grip in the future

err..i got 1 question..
asking behalf on my fren..
she owns D80..
lately..she found that there are few dots of dust inside her lens..18-135mm
she wanted to bring to nikon service center to clean it..
how much is it??
and how long does she need to wait???
*
i not sure of that but i think should need to spend few hundreds bucks.
if the dust in the lens doesnt affect the image quality, can leave it there
just my opinion

i teached her how to check dead pixel...but she nvr tell me..
nvm..i will check wit her again ltr...

thx...

it can be sticky dust which can't be blowed by blower. My camera also got 4-5 dusts sticking to the sensor. not obvious on normal shooting until aperture stopped down to f 20. Just leave it there..
