ATI is working with Havok for Havok FX. Maybe this is the physic engine for ATI cards.

One question: Which one is it better, to proses PhysX in GPU or CPU?
I am using C2Q6600 cpu and 8600GT GC...

if u download fluid demo by nvidia and u got a 8series card and above.
u can assume gpu physX is good when u toggle between gpu( hardware )/cpu( software ) rendering.
A huge gap performance between these 2.
But u could say nvidia's demo is biased...so the answer is not so precise. hmm.gif

Havok (openCL) will use both gpu and cpu...

i read somewhere that Havok will balance the processing performance between gpu & cpu.
lets say if GPU perf> CPU perf.. then more workload on GPU...but if CPU perf > GPU perf... more workload on CPU (heck..i don't know how Havok will decide it in reality laugh.gif )

imo...ageia nearly die..so nvidia bought it ... and to make their card super special awesome while it is not.. lol

lets see..

Physx codded for CPU : it will always run on cpu, and will not run on gpu..
Physx codded for GPU : it runs better on gpu, and runs lolsome/terrible on CPU..

the list of games that have GPU-Physx : http://technologic.ysoserius.com/2009/04/l...x-game-for.html

other than listed so far..they will only run on CPU , not GPU.

3dmark vantage is out of equation...since it is not game.

Woah, what a waste sweat.gif Technically a 8600GT is sufficient already as all the PhysX supported games out there does not require heavy physics calculations.

Use your ATI card as main output and your 8800GT as secondary. Install both drivers and enable 8800GT as dedicated PhysX card in NVIDIA control panel.

And yes, PhysX is a much more powerful physics engine compared to Havok. Last I heard, PhysX is used in more advanced simulation programmes than games.

not exactly.

i did come by some article that did a test and found that going for cards like 9600GT for Physx does show more improvement in framerates.

I tried with ATI act as Display card and nVidia 8800GTS as Physx card. Working fine. Just the GPU-Z give me wrong info after that.

Well, basically, it is just for gaming purposes. Nothing special.

Thinking between Crossfire my system better or this kind of setup for next GC card upgrade.

@Terence573,

I didn't really hopes Hydra chip can play any important role at the moment, it is just still new. It is good idea.

I tried Mirror's Edge, so far so good.

Just wonder what game can see more Physx effect?

batman arkham asylum?
tried?

btw, it can be done on single monitor too right?

the nvidia card will only gives physx for some games, and will not give any extra fps in other game right?
