it happened to me before, i played game until the whole casing become hot, and then got some kind of burnt smell, turns out it was the psu, and the next day the whole psu died. that's where i learnt my lesson about psu
thank goodness it didn't affect any other hardware inside my pc. |

windows 7 definitely. i think the driver support inside win 7 is much better compared to vista. besides the better performance, the interface is also much improved

yeah, i didn't even need to install any drivers for my mobo, gc and audio actually when i first installed win 7, but of course better to install back the actual drivers
the driver searching thing also helped a lot, as v12 said, no need to waste time googling here and there searching for the right one. |

i think for drivers like graphics, chipset, and audio, best to get the official drivers from the manufacturer's website itself. my audio also somehow a bit screwed, even when i turn off my speaker still got sound

yeah, now i just don't bother, i still can live with the sound problem. asus also a bit screwed up actually, never release latest drivers for their older mobos...only update their latest mobo drivers..

in simple terms, the bigger number is better. but still it depends on series also, especially if you compare 2 different classes of cards together, like a budget card and a high end card. for example, the 7300GT and 6800GT. 7300GT is considered budget or mid-end card, while the 6800GT is considered high end card, hence the 6 series one still wins. the same can be said for ati's cards too.

4650 is midend. 4850 can consider as highend for agp systems, if there is one..

i've never tried an ati card before, even my first gc for my p4 rig at home is a nvidia card, right until now. might wanna try one for my c2d rig, coz as mentioned, more value for money, and more choices, compared to nvidia now.

seems like it, e8xxx series also looks like a considerable option, for those who dont really require a quaddie.
but for me, i see amd's option as a better alternative, coz i read that current socket am3 will be around for quite some time. |

maybe check on whether you have put everything in place, all the hardware slotted in nicely. coz when you take out your hsf, you might have removed other stuff like cables around, and could have forgotten to put them back.

QUOTE(ravewar @ Nov 9 2009, 10:30 AM) so the moral of the story, if it's running, leave it...why fix it when it's running? if you need to maintain it, do it discretely...without damaging or stressing it... haha, very true indeed. i've also learned it the hard way, one day just decided to take out my hardwares for some spring cleaning and cable management, turns out the next day my hdd crashed and spoiled. have to rma |
