Headline: Sistem pemarkahan politeknik dirombak
Publication: BM
Date of publication: Aug 5, 2012
Byline / Author: Oleh Badrul Kamal Zakaria

I'm wondering, for the polytechnics in Malaysia, do they use English in their syllabus? If so, how many percent of it? Can't help but to notice the poly students in Malaysia are extremely bad in their usage of English in contrast with Singaporean poly students (well, most of them) have better English than me.

'sup dude.
you are studying in SG now?

polytechnic have a low requirement to enter therefore the bad english is as expected of their intake.
the syllabus has recently changed and it also includes the use of English but students find it hard to cope to so lecturer sometimes teaches in Malay.students are also allowed to answer quiz or exam in Malay.
assignment for my department are usually in English but the question are so easy because we can find the answer in the notes.
I was an idiot in middle school but still can score a 3 pointer in polytechnic tongue.gif
student are allowed to answer in Bahasa Malaysia though.

polytechnic are now undergoing many revamps now for upgrading into university probably in 2014. rclxms.gif

Hey there, I'm a recent Polytechnic graduate!
After 2 years wasted in STPM (I got a bad score tongue.gif ), I went into poly. I got a CGPA of 3.59 in Automotive Engineering. Applied UTP but didn't get it. sad.gif I might try again for the January intake since my transcript has arrived. I might wanna try and include every single curricular activities I had done as well. I'm not getting my hopes high though. If that fails it will be either UTM or UTeM.

About the English....yeah I am sad myself to see the level of English in my poly. I got a band 5 in MUET at STPM, and none of my friends got past band 1 when taking it at poly. We are supposed to use all out English in our syllabus. Usually when answering a test fully in English, the lecturer will give you some 'bonus' marks (provided that your English is correct and 'advanced'), so it helps. It's all up to the lecturer though. smile.gif

I'll give you the abbreviation, you figure it out yourself. PKS. tongue.gif
I think it's more of their fault instead of the teaching method. One of my friends actually chatted to a girl at the Listening test. doh.gif Actually one of them did get a Band 2, but only barely.

I just like going further into the filed of study that I like. Plus my parents believe that it'll accelerate my career faster.
Which is good.....since I'll be 28 when I'm done. laugh.gif

Oh, then we're on the same boat. tongue.gif
UTHM and UTM are actually my second choices if I don't pass for UTP.
