Another configuration to consider:

1.Buy the Storm from elsewhere at around 1.8k-2.3k

2.Sign up Celcom P148 plan : You can make RM148 worth of calls, sms, mms and also unlimited 3G.

3.Pay for BIS license at RM30 per month so you will have full functionality of the Blackberry.

4. So total damage per month is around RM180.

For me, my average phone usage is around RM150/ month so this plan suited me perfectly. Furtermore I only use the BB as my tethered modem to surf. In my area (damansara), I download file via Rapidshare and I can easily get more than 200KBps (not Kb).

As for the Maxis plan, the BB data plan and phone plans are separated. Hence Minimum to pay is RM250/ month to have the above configuration. In my opinion, if it's the iPhone, go for the Maxis iValue plans but for Blackberry, the obvious choice is Celcom plans.

PS: I personally like both the blackberries and iPhone a lot

I just received my maxis bill;
I am only charged 88 for my BIS unlimited; only started it last month.

so my bill is basically

80 voice + 88 BIS + 5 (itemized Bill) + 5% Service Tax.

so its 173 + 8.65 = 181.57

No Idea how i got 88; but I am not complaining...
basically was on standard package on day 1. but upgraded on day 2 to unlimited; coz I was downloading too much....
Any other maxis user getting 88?

Using it as a tether modem check out my sign...for my speed...down side couldnt torrent. but rapidshare is pretty fast.

yoongdynasty,

I know u can use BB as modem but I'm quite surprise that it can even be use to download from Rapidshare? Well...it this is true, I don't see a reason why I should subscribe to Streamyx anymore if BB can do that smile.gif

Yeap you can download via rapidshare. I use rapidshare premium.

At night i would plug in my BB as a modem and download a few files simultaneously, turn on bluetooth to connect to my stereo bluetooth headset, and make calls while surfing.

So in a nutshell I am:
1) downloading movies
2) using bluetooth
3) making calls
4) surfing

All at the same time with my Storm plugged in my laptop. Plan is Celcom P148plan with RM30 additional BIS plan. (Total RM180/month)

Hope these info helps.

Yoongdynasty,

That's so awesome. I'm also using RS Premium and the reason why I still stuck with streamyx is because of RS. If that's the case, I could just get a Blackberry Celcom RM180 per month (including RM145 for making calls? are u serious?) and unlimited 3G and later terminate my streamyx. Put the monthly streamyx bill budget into my celcom. All in one. No need to get a celcom broadband. Not bad...not bad drool.gif

p/s: I know u can use Storm as modem but can Bold be modem as well? Or is it only Storm can do that?

P148 plan just need to pay additional RM30 to get unlimited BIS?

Ya wei..i took me many trips to the celcom branch in Menara PKNS to confirmed it. Initially i thought P148 is only for company registration hence I registered it under my company. But later on the manager confirmed that individuals could also apply for it. Hence I changed it back to my personal name account so that I could activate the supplementary line for additional RM5/month. For business registration, you would need to pay for the Office Pax fees in order to have free calls among your supp.

Check out the following P148 plan link. You just need to pay additional RM30 to get BIS.

Sherina,

Yes I save on my streamyX bills too. However the speed of the celcom 3G also depends on location. Perhaps you could check your location coverage before commiting. I am happy with the rate of downloading 1 full movie/night when i sleep.

Yes the Bold can be used as a tethered modem.

thanks for the info, yoong. I checked the celcom website that u gave. What's the different between BES and BIS?
*
BES: Blackberry Enterprise Server is a software plugin for email servers that syncs email, calender and address book information between the server and other Blackberry devices that are authorized to access it. Used for enterprises/companies that shares information within their blackberries.

BIS: Blackberry Internet Server is provided by our telco whereby it allows our Blackberry devices to access internet, facebook, msn, POP3/IMAP email accounts.

Both BES and BIS are servers that stores the emails which will be pushed to our Blackberry devices in realtime as we receive it. Also, we will receive facebook notifications as soon as we receive them (pushed to our blackberries). This is different from other PDAs because they periodically connect to the internet server to see whether we have mails. This will use up battery power because it is Pulling information periodically rather than having information Pushed to them automatically.

Also with BES and BIS, our email settings and network configurations are stored centrally in the server; hence if you lose your blackberry, you can just resend the Service Books via your blackberry online account to your new Blackberry. You just need to update the PIN number with your new Blackberry's pin in your existing account.

We as end user consumers only need the BIS.

Hope these helps.

I have question regarding the Blackberry Internet Service. I would like to know its download/upload data speed. I also read in the first page regarding faster speeds through 3g, does the BIS connect over 3G or is it a different connection type?

The reason i ask is because i've just got myself an 8900 Curve but regretted to find out that some apps only work with the data plan. But if the data plan download speeds are slow, i wont be considering it anyways.
