Interesting read about AF systems between the Nikon D300, Sony A700/A900 and Canon 5DMkII:

http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/nikon-af-vs-so...5978_page1.html

I'm not sure how many will understand it given one might not have seen a split-prism rangefinder before...

split-prism rangefinder is something in the past. Kinda useless unless u shoot everything in the middle and also will only work if you have the time to do the focusing before your subject run/fly away smile.gif

Vincent Pang, on the contrary, they are still used in all modern digital SLRs - phase-detect AF points are all split prism rangefinders. Cross-type AF points are just 2 sets of split prism rangefinders overlaid on each other. So if you understand how a split prism rangefinder works, you will understand what they are talking about in more depth.

Also, you can focus using the darkened ground glass on the outside of the split-prism rangefinder of a manual-focus screen. It will show correct depth of field for lenses brighter than F2.8 (as opposed to shooting at F2.0, and finding your DOF to be less than what you see in the viewfinder.)

Contrast-detect AF, like that on the Panasonic G1 and Live View systems of Canon/Nikon/Olympus, do not use split prism rangefinders. But they certainly are not faster than the phase-detect AF system that uses split prism rangefinders!

I do wonder how people with proper rangefinders (Leica M8, etc) focus off-center. There's no ground glass on that one...

personally i don like those thing...feel like it somehow reduce the quality of the photo by adding extra glasses...furthermore its on 1870....

if u need a wide angle..u can always get a wide angle lens next time...same goes to macro...

personally...i think the only *cheaper* add-on lens that worth the $ is raynox macro lens...

but to be frank i nv really use alot of 'em b4...so it wouldnt b fair for me to bad mouth about those add-on stuff....

my point of view is always...if u want to shoot macro..get a true macro lens..if u wan to shoot wide angle..get a wide angle lens.....the converter might satisfy u for awhile..but eventually u'll move to the 'true' lens for the quality...so y waste the $ at the first place? biggrin.gif

p/s:to me..800buck is too exp.. =)

well..not say cannot..just that its a lil bit hard and the bokeh of cos cant b compared with the prime lenses....(and thats the reason y i got my 50mm less than a week after i bought my a300..lol)

try zoom to the max..get nearer to ur subject....and use the smallest F number possible...

i don't think so any of them at dyxum are talking about live view. Btw, wat live view system is the A900 using?

you sure ur phase detect AF system which uses split prism are faster? all the dude in dyxum seems to agree that D300/D700 has fastest AF. Nikon not using split prism right? I'm not referring to live view here.

Vincent Pang, read it again, they say the A900 has faster AF, but the D300 tracks better and focuses off-center than both Sony and Canon. The D300 had more trouble in low light due to it not having a F2.8-optimized sensor and it may not be as accurate.

Phase-detect AF = (electronic) split prism rangefinder

Nikon is using split prism rangefinders in their 51 AF point phase-detect system. They just use a lot more of those, that's all.

This is a disassembled phase-detect AF unit from a Minolta 9xi. It had 4 AF sensors but you see 8 holes there right? Do you understand?

from ur exiff, u use saturation +2..my personal advise, letthe saturation and contrast 0 value..

it helps to prevent skin tone problem..

errr...actually there is no "correct" way of using photoshop la...as long as u understand the functions..u no need to follow the steps...if not..follow blindly wont bring u far..

ok..anyway..since guy n the gal skin tone is not on the same level..all i did was change the exposure + gamma + brightness to make the gal skin tone until i feel comfortable...and den another layer of exp + gamma for the guy..and den mask it using the gradient tool....

bokeh wise...its just "blur"..nothing great..lol

edit: oh ya..i desaturate ur photo a lil bit too...

Here's mine... (although personally, I like achew's better). I went for a more natural color (bcoz kena komen before this that my skin tone was too warm.. hehe)
