the first one looks v good to me...
2nd one looks weird to me due to the posture/hair/facial expression of the model..and the framing is too tight for my liking.....too tight maybe for this composition...

just my 2cents

signither, changing batteries supposedly helps but I don't have time to change batteries during the action-packed parts LOL. Much faster to swap flashes (and the second flash helps as a wireless slave.)

yeah.. figured it would be in the range of f3.2 to f4... from my experience, f2.8 is hard to work with because some body/face features would be out of focus..

try to move away from ur subject to increase abit of ur DoF ??

but i have a slightly diff view...do correct me if im wrong..

if we r using 50mm in FF...supposingly we can go nearer to our subject to get the same composition as 50mm in apsc.....so 'by right'..we shd get a creamier bokeh right...

i think u got my wrong liao...wad i meant was..

lets say we r using lens A which is a 50mm F1.4 and has a MFD of 50cm..

so case 1...i use it on a300...due to the cropped sensor..i hav to stand 2meters away to get the composition i wan..

case 2...i use it on a FF..without the cropped sensor..50mm shd b wider here...so i can stand 1.5meter to get exactly the same composition as case1...

in this case..the distance btwn me n my subject was shorter in case2...so my DoF n bokeh shd b diff?? i guess?

QUOTE(albnok @ May 13 2009, 01:09 AM)
achew, that is correct - you get a wider angle of view with a bigger format e.g. full-frame, and so, you move closer to the subject, and depth of field becomes shallower.

I do feel my 50mm F1.4's limit of 45cm very obviously when using full-frame.

signither, if:

Matching distance, aperture, focal length BUT different angle of view
1) 50mm F1.4 on full-frame focused to 3 meters
2) 50mm F1.4 on APS-C focused to 3 meters

- bokeh is the same shape, it is not creamier or smoother just because it is on full-frame. If a lens has ugly bokeh on APS-C it will still have ugly bokeh on FF
- the depth of field is the same
- the angle of view is different

Matching aperture, focal length BUT different distance and angle of view
1) 50mm F1.4 on full-frame focused to 2 meters
2) 50mm F1.4 on APS-C focused to 3 meters

- the depth of field is different
- as a result, the bokeh is more apparent on 1)
- the magnification is the same; the object is the same size in the frame
- the background is more magnified on 2) due to different perspective and angle of view
*
yea..this is exactly wad i meant..hahaha..i guess we still need a pro to make the same theory more 'understandable' tho...lol

but the last point about the background part...i didnt know it would b diff tho...supposingly the subject is the same size in the frame...wouldnt the background appear to b same size too?

achew, try filling the frame with the same object and shooting with both 16mm and 80mm ends of your Zeiss. Major difference!

Also try extending your palm and putting it next to your monitor. Then walk far away and do the same thing - your palm will appear much bigger than the monitor! This is all perspective.

okay..i think i got wad u trying to say...hahah..silly me...

if wedding using flash.. what aperture should i use for couple pose ar? so that both would be in focus and sharp. f4, f5.6? or f2.8 on my tammy 17-50?
*
if only 2 ppl..i think 4 shd b fine?? even at 2.8..if u r not zooming alot or not very close..i guess they shd b fairly sharp...or shd i say..sharp enough for u to pp the photo into a really sharp photo...lol

may i know u use what lens? yeah.. nowadays i use 4-5.6 for people photos.. and f11 for wide angle day photos..

Added on May 13, 2009, 2:19 am

hehe.. i did few close ups with f2.8 and it's okay.. like u said; if not zooming in and not very close.. if close prob for me.. the bride in focus and the groom is slightly out of focus or at least not sharp enough for me.
*
wont b terribly OOF-ed right??just increase a lil bit F lo...and perhaps focus somewhere inbtwn them rather than u focus the eyes of the bright..den recompose again..by the time the groom already OOF-ed

i read 1 review from hk/tw....from the build and image quality....its on par with all the majar 2470 manufacturer...if its really that good...im sure it worth the price as it probably only cost u half of wad u need for cz/nikon/canon
