QUOTE(weiyap_tan @ Apr 27 2009, 01:15 AM) i ve to say it was indeed a smart move...many ppl were against the idea back then, cuz AMD was already in debt before they acquire ATi... now everything is working right... if only AMD can make their CPU better... less delays at the very least... |

QUOTE(weiyap_tan @ Apr 27 2009, 01:19 AM) that's the prob told by my lecturer. he say there is not 100% certain choice yet...so he say have to depend on our luck also, hopefully by the time i finish my master 5 years from now, the economy cycle will turn to the top again Memory makers have been making losses for the past 18 quarters... long before the current credit crunch sets in...not to scare u... but yeah, that's reality |

QUOTE(bobiac @ Apr 27 2009, 01:21 AM) but years later even amd is cheap its still more powerfull than intel. oh, u mean Athlon64??? yeah, that was a nice game from AMD...astria izzit correct? before the dual core generation. but think another way, without Athlon64, we might not ve Core 2, and at such prices... and that prompted AMD to make Phenom and perfect it to Phenom II... so yeah, competition is good... |

for AMD's cse it's sort of viscious cycle...
CPU not appealing, less demand less demand, lower price to stimulate it lower prices = less profit less profit = less money for R&D less R&D = not so good CPU so yeah.. till now they still having quite a lot of debt... hopefully once The Foundry is setup, things will get better for them... |

actually, if Intel really want to kill AMD, it's very easy...
they juz need to tear the contract that authorizes AMD to make x86 CPU... but of course, they "can't" do that becuz of all the anti-monopoly laws... |

QUOTE(weiyap_tan @ Apr 27 2009, 01:28 AM) for AMD, it's mainly becuz of the K10 CPU (aka Phenom I)delayed again and again... by the time it hit market, C2D was already everywhere... Added on April 27, 2009, 1:31 am QUOTE(HL Milk @ Apr 27 2009, 01:29 AM) At least AMD lose less amount compare to the last quarter, hope they can turn profit this year. Then Intel will start waking up. Intel is not slow la...the upcoming Lynnfield is pretty promising... especially the Turbo Boost technique, can oc quite a lot leh... QUOTE(weiyap_tan @ Apr 27 2009, 01:31 AM) they will need to bank on Phenom II... at least it can attract overclckers... the new Phenom II x4 955BE reportedly can hit 7GHz on liquid nitrogen...Added on April 27, 2009, 1:34 am QUOTE(HL Milk @ Apr 27 2009, 01:32 AM) They cannot tear that agreement, since the current x64 is from AMD own creation, Intel will lose all the 64bit processor, AMD cannot make any x86 base processor. The processor market will collapse. Therefore, definitely the government will come in and stop such dispute. i think more like catastrophic...considering all desktops and laptops are using x86 CPU... QUOTE(HL Milk @ Apr 27 2009, 01:35 AM) Overclocker is a small market, but their platform provide upgrade path for current AM2+ user is a plus. Not like Intel tick-tock model, you have to change everything. well, that's AMD's traditional market actually...Athlon XP, Athlon64, all were good oc-ers... Phenom I was disappointing... but main problem is, seldom we see AMD in OEM machines... Added on April 27, 2009, 1:37 amdamn, we hit 400... QUOTE(weiyap_tan @ Apr 27 2009, 01:46 AM) actually it's different thing, Intel used to call it SMP...they can achieve the same thing, but works differently, SMP iirc is much more efficient than HT...
