A quick question here ... is changing the substrate (like on a yearly basis) a need or you don't actually change it after you started planting? unsure.gif

If it's ADA , not a necessity to change unless you have that constant bad habit of changing it biggrin.gif

ADA could last for 5 years ... as they mentioned...

Copper is an enemy of all invertibrates.. If you have snails or other shrimps crawling in there, and they're alive, then it's not copper biggrin.gif.

Copper can come from fish medication, anti snail medication etc etc etc.

if snails are present, scratch out copper.. Now I'm suspecting your filtration power and water quality.. also, how's your maintenance?

HOB filter... quite a large one... so filtration power i guess its ok... i'm guessing the bio filter (carbon) inside the HOB filter... is it true when after sometime, carbon will release *whatever it previously filtering* back into the water??.... unsure.gif

Pinchboys san releasing poison into this thread lol.

@cata, Carbon is NOT A BIO FILTRATION MEDIA.. and yes it is true it will release all the gunk it sucked out after a period of time...

BIO media are things like Bio rings, ADA BIo rio, etc etc. Carbon is chemical filtration

oh ok... chemical filtration... so should i remove all the used carbon and jz maintain the sponge inside for mechanical filtration??... i'm also using sponge at the intake pipe to prevent shrimplets being sucked in...
