I have a thing against cty's 'services' for some reason. Not all their staff are properly educated in the sense of aquascaping.. Try Fishop for better advice(though most of their tanks are in a Bad Shape hahaha)

Well it is written over the net that it is advisable to light up your tank during the day plainly because. well, When your lights is off, and it's during the day.. your tank would somehow or another get light from the sun.. this may lead to slight algae growth or slunted rotala growth IMO.

Added on August 5, 2009, 8:01 pmOh, not only rotalas.. any other stem plant could be seen slunted towards a light source.. Many who light their planted tanks at night have reported of such cases.

KW has better prices for those equipments. but do know what you're buying.

Fishop may charge you a bit more for some of the stuff. Go ask for more discount. biggrin.gif Whenever buying anything from any LFS. always ask for discount

86F?? means its 30C.. try to use celcius.. it's our mainstream method haha..

Too high.. Anywhere between 24C to 28C is ideal for freshwater fish...

Use fans or chillers to reduce tank temperature..

Useless. Not reliable at all.

The best way is still the c02 tank method.. Second is DIY.. All those tablets and stuff are not as efficient as you may want them.. would cause more problems than good IMHO.

3 watt per gallon is applied at minimal to tanks bigger than 2feet Any smaller you need different lighting levels or so.. I'm not so sure why but it's kinda true lol.

What is your tank size first of all?

Yea, If I could I would prefer their Pollen Glass type.. the round cup one.. but very expensive.. So I went for the fake beetle. haha.. And that Original ADA Beetle for AIR.. I bought second hand.. affordable price. So I hantam..

@ adrian,
The tank size is 90cm L x 45cm H x 45cm D ( 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft).. tank alone i spent over rm 200.. since it is braceless and 10mm lol.

Bro, that's not double c02 diffusion.. the bigger one is the c02 diffuser.. the smaller one is for air pump ( Oxygen diffuser )

Yes overdosing excel kills bba.. increasing c02 levels help too!

Here's what you can try

Use spot treatment.. this way you lower the risk of overdosing till your fish TTC hahaa( tong tong chiang - dead)

Use the syringe we use in the hobby( you know , those that come with pH kits or anything like that) Use 100% excel in that syringe.. aim at the BBA..

Do this after WC.. and don't do for the entire tank .. later overdose haha.. part by part week by week..

Also, off the filter when you spot treat your tank.

Always works for me..

I wouldn't say reducing light hours would help nor did i say it wouldn't help at all lol

A good way of fighting all algae in general is to ensure your plants have access to good supply of light, c02 and fertz..( with proper temperature that is) when plants can grow fast.. they absorb nutrients better.. therefore.. less algae..

If the algae is already present.. the blackout method could be used.. or shortening the light period could discourage algae growth as well.. but this also means.. plant growth is affected as well. ( get me? I am confusing myself here lol)

my little write up there is for algae in general.. and yes you are right.. BBA comes from insufficient or swinging levels of c02 anyhows..

Here we go again LOL.

LED is still very very new to the aquatics scene.. this usually means very expensive initially.. If you have the $$.. go for it.. It saves you money in the very long run for now lol. ( Remember that you must have enough to produce a high enough intensity for your plants/corals.)
